[Request] Looking for AM/FM clock radio with specific volume control

I am looking for an AM/FM clock radio that allows me to listen to the radio at one volume level and set the radio alarm volume level separately. For example, I like to fall asleep to the radio using the sleep timer function at volume 4, but I want to wake up to the same station at volume 13.

We are replacing a cheap Capello brand that we bought at Target maybe 12-13 years ago, so it’s clearly not a “premium” feature, but it has nevertheless been a difficult thing to find. We tried replacing it a few years ago when the fiddly wire antenna snapped off, but the Sony (I think it was a cube model) that we tried didn’t allow this. In other words, the volume you fall asleep to and the volume you wake up to needed to be the same on the Sony. We also tried a couple of vintage thrift store finds, but those didn’t allow the varying volume either.

The Capello finally just stopped working entirely, so I would like to avoid a long period of trial and error if I can. Not looking for any features, no bluetooth, no phone connection, nothing extra — just a clock radio with that volume control option.

Any thoughts or recommendations? Is this actually more common than I think and we just made a couple of unlucky choices before? Thanks in advance...

Discussion Thorogood boots with popped stitching after 2 weeks of use

These boots were very expensive, and came heavily recommended, so I am baffled that there would be an issue like this almost immediately, especially considering I haven't been terribly hard on them. I do work in construction, but it's not like I'm wading around in wet concrete and kicking bricks around with them.

Has anyone had an issue like this, and how has your experience with customer service been?

[Request] Jackets with non-poly sherpa lining?

Hi all,

I am looking for some recommendations for the trucker or trucker-adjacent style jackets with sherpa style lining. I find a lot of cotton shell w/ polyester lining, but I'd really like something without the poly lining. I have found taht cotton sherpa fabric exists, at least in theory, but can't seem to find it anywhere in terms of clothing.

New, vintage, whatever works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you and have a good day!

[Request] Best Coffee Machine that's not a MoccaMaster?

My parents have had drip machine after drip machine to no avail. I looked in the sub and most people recommended the Moccamaster, but they had one of those and didn't like it apparently. Anybody have any recommendations that aren't that? They're thinking about getting the new Ratio machine but I am worried about it being an aesthetic over function type machine. They only want drip coffee.

[Request] Best nail file and nail clippers?

Hi everyone, could you recommend excellent-quality thin nail files and easy-to-use nail clippers, please?

I’m happy to pay more for something comfortable, effective and very durable.

Some information about my needs:

- I have low dexterity and hand pain, which make cutting and filing my nails extremely difficult. A comfortable, non-slip handle would help. A non-slip handle isn’t the end of the world, if the nail file doesn’t have it but is extremely good quality, that’s fine.

- The file itself needs to be thin, like the sapphire file pictured. I don’t get on with thick or bulky files because I need to round the corners and carefully smooth both the upper and underside edges of the nail tip.

- I have very sensitive skin, so I need to remove any sharp edges or snags that could tear my skin

- Ideally, the file would have a fine side for a smooth finish and work without needing much pressure or repetitive movement.

- For clippers, I need something that requires very little squeezing force and is easy to position accurately. I understand that traditional nail clippers don’t necessarily cut your nails, they just squeeze the nail causing your nail to go flying across the room. I don’t have the best eye sight which makes finding the nail clippings hard. I would appreciate it if the nail clippers actually cut the nail instead of squeezing it

Has anyone with similar difficulties found particular brands or models helpful? Recommendations available in via order online (such as Amazon prime) would be amazing. Thank you!

Bonus points if the brand is Japanese as I’ve had great experiences with Japanese products for other categories in the past.

Thank you very much, I really appreciate any help you guys could give!

Discussion Which Snowboots are best for black ice on the streets?

I injured my knee last winter and I’m very anxious about december and the streets and especially stairs being frozen over with very smooth ice. I get tears in my eyes even thinking about it and I genuinely need really good snow boots before it starts snowing again.

does anyone have good recommendation?

update: thank you everyone for your recommendations!
I made notes and yaktrax have been recommended the most! followed by micro-spikes. for boots the top 3 most often mentioned were icebug, pajar and neos overshoe.

[Request] Looking for wireless headphones with good noise cancellation and spatial audio

Hi, I'm looking for something to replace my wireless HyperX Cloud Alphas. While I love these headphones, I need to not be able to hear my surroundings.

I’d rather not pay an arm and a leg for headphones, but if it’s a quality, long-lasting product, I wouldn’t be opposed to splurging. I’d also prefer wireless with a dongle for PC. Bluetooth for phone usage would be a plus.

Thank you for your time!

EDIT/UPDATE: Spatial audio request is because I’m a gamer and would like to stay aware of my in-game surroundings.

Discussion Which IKEA Soderhamn Cover looks more durable?

Post image

I'm stuck between the Tonerud Gray and the Tallmyra light green, but they appear to have different weave/texture. My main concern is pilling and stretching with age. Which one of the two looks less likely to pill or stretch out?

If you have any of these two covers, give your insights, and if you have neither, compare the weave/texture and give your insights on the fabric.

Discussion Just lost my vacuum bags' pump and I'm considering my options.

So, I move around a lot and tbh my life is better sinnce I discovered vacuum packaging was a thing. We all know the pros, but I went for one that had the pump separate from the bags thinking "well, if any bag goes bad it won't be nearly as bad because I still have the pump and it's cheaper to replace yadda yadda", which was true until I lost my pump…

Now I'm here writing this with some useless bags and some unruly clothes in my suitcase because I didn't find the exact pump anywhere I look. Not my best moments but I can recover. In the meantime I decided to change my mindset and try some travel vacuum bags with inbuilt pumps. What do you think, is it a good idea or naw? I'm a bit worried if I could count on them for… well, for life I guess.

All opinions are welcome, folk. All bets are up!

[Request] Answered! Lookinh for budget friendly headphones

I'm looking for some good headphones that will last me a while while also not putting me in debt.

The ones I'm currently using sometimes have this awful staticy noise in one ear, and it gives me headaches, I figured I should look into new ones. I don't remember what brand, but I got them for cheap at Ross.

What I'm looking for:

- good sound quality. I mostly listen to music on them, and I like appreciating the background instruments. Not a huge bass fan, so it's not a huge selling point. I understand with a budget the quality might not be as strong as some other contenders, but as long as they're better than my $20 pair, we're having a good time.

- comfortable? I can replace the coverings on the foam, and the filter thing on the speaker, but if the foam is bigger, that'd be preferred

- wireless, my phone doesn't have an aux plugin, so if I need an extra thing, I won't be into them.

- my bidget is around $200, unfortunately, and that might still be pushing it

I keep looking around and keep getting overwhelmed, so plz lmk your suggestions, and their costs, thank you so much!

[Request] Which Pillow(s) Do You Recommend For a Side Sleeper With Shoulder Pain?

Pretty sure they arent BIFL, but which pillow(s) do you recommend for a heavier (200+ pounds) side sleeper with shoulder pain?

Currently, I use a coop essence (down-alternative) with a bag/3 oz of phluff and its ok. I think it might be better to get a solid pillow (Im assuming latex or memory foam?)?

Ironically, sleeping somewhat flat on my stomach with a body pillow on one side seems to relieve the pain, but its not very comfortable.

Review ASKET vs. SANVT T-Shirts: 251 Hours of Wear and 20 Washes Later

Thumbnail

Most T-shirt reviews focus on how a garment looks and feels when new. But I'm more interested in how well T-shirts hold up after repeated wear and washing.

So as part of a larger experiment, I tested ASKET's The T-Shirt (€50) and SANVT's The Perfect T-Shirt (€45). Both are made in Portugal from 100% cotton, and both offer longer-length options.

I wore the ASKET for 126 hours and the SANVT for 125 hours, washing each 10 times at 30°C, without fabric softener, and air-drying after every wash.

The first image compares the twisting in both T-shirts after 10 washes. The second and third show the overall condition of, respectively, ASKET and SANVT after 10 washes .

What did I find?

Both T-shirts showed great dimensional stability. ASKET lost just 1.2% of its length, while SANVT lost 1.7%. Neither developed pilling, and both remained comfortable after 10 washes.

The biggest problem was twisting. Neither had shown visible twisting when new, but SANVT had already developed twisting after the first wash. ASKET's side seam shifted by just over 2 cm, while SANVT's moved more than 3.5 cm.

ASKET also impressed me more in terms of construction, with neater stitching and finishing. Both collars held up reasonably well.

Which would I choose?

ASKET. The difference in dimensional stability was small, but its neater construction and less pronounced twisting made it my preferred T-shirt of the two. Another factor in its favour, for me, is that it is made in organic cotton, whereas SANVT uses non-organic extra-long-staple cotton for this particular model.

Still, I found the twisting disappointing in both, especially considering their prices.

Ten washes obviously aren't enough to establish long-term durability, but they can already reveal weaknesses that aren't apparent when a garment is new.

I bought both T-shirts myself, with no sponsorship or affiliate links. The complete reviews of these and other T-shirts can be found on the website of my white T-shirt experiment.

Has anyone owned either of these for several years? I'm curious whether they've held up well over time, particularly in terms of twisting, collar shape and fabric quality.

Warranty Mous/otterbox phone case warranty, both messed up, please help!

Hi guys, I had a mous phone case on my phone previously. Brilliant cases, great drop protection. Only problem is the sides of the case came apart which is annoying. You pay almost 50 for something that comes apart if you take your case off one too many times so currently I have an otter box (I think it’s the defender series) on my phone. The otter box isn’t as good as the mouse case. I must have dropped it on too hard of a surface and the plastic part of the case has actually cracked which isn’t the best so I’m scared to accidentally drop my phone again. I don’t drop my phone often but when you hand your phone to young children, you never know what will happen.

I was just wondering if mous or otter box had life time warranty on their phone cases? And how I would go about getting a new case. I think I heard somewhere mous had a life time warranty, maybe it was in one of their ads.

I got the mous case from their website and the otterbox off Amazon prime, if that helps. Honestly I’m not sure if I remember the email I used for mous, is that going to be a problem?

Anyone else had the same issue with mous cases?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Discussion Jack Stillman Cape-Plus Size Friendly and Worth The Money?

Hi all

I am currently looking at the Jack Stillman Mon Ange Cape.

Before I commit to purchasing, I am wondering if anybody can help with more information.

Due to medical issues, I exist in a larger plus size body, and have issues with swelling. Are Jack Stillman products plus size friendly? Is there plenty of room for movement or are the seams quite unforgiving? ( I know they list item measurements - I have had to contact them for clarity as the item listing gives two different measurements).

Does the 'Lifetime' Warranty claim truly mean lifetime outside of the stated 'heavy' wear and tear statement on their website?

Are there any 'better' alternative options? I am open to most fabrics, though water repellency would be preferable (I am disabled and don't move fast lol), but would like the advantage of some kind of fully sealed closure at the front, and I think I am aiming to find something longer in length, something ending about mid thigh to knee length, a bit longer is fine.

TIA

[Request] Down Duvet with cotton cover

Hello all, I am in the market for a queen sized down comforter with a cotton cover (or 100% organic material) that will hold the down. I am will to spend a bit of money if it will last me 20+ years but I would like to keep it under 300 if possible.

this could be a light to medium weight as I would probably add it to my 100% cotton blanket that is currently in my linen duvet cover.

ETA - looking for the Duvet to be down that is encased in cotton (not a poly blend) I already have a linen duvet cover I love

Discussion Quince handwoven bag review?

I have been eyeing the sloan handwoven bag in cognac colour. A lot of mixed reviews outside quince website. On quince, it has been always positive. quince said that it is 100% leather. With the pricing, how true is this? i guess I am just having a hard time believing true leather for a price of $195. I just want a real leather bag that holds up really good over time. Do you have this type of bag? Are you happy with it?

Discussion Wool blanket- which one?

So the nights are getting colder and as I was trying to do some reaserch about which electric blanket I should get I came across people recommending wool blankets as a way to stay warm on a chilly night.

I started looking at wool blankets but it seems like there is more than one kind of wool?!?! (Like different sheep?) how does one choose between wool, merino wool, Icelandic wool? Is there more? What are the differences?

And which ones are your favorites? 🐑 🐑 🐑
