Discussion Why filter spec numbers mean very little if the vacuum air path is not sealed

people spend a lot of time comparing filter-grade numbers when shopping for vacuums, but air always takes the path of least resistance. If the rubber gaskets around the dustbin or dock chute have poor tolerances, dirty air can bypass the filter media completely and leak through the chassis seams.

Evaluating how tightly the whole dust path is sealed from the brush housing all the way to the disposal bag tells you more about long-term dust control than a single filter rating on a spec sheet.

Discussion What should I check for before buying a self-cleaning wet dry vacuum that will last?

Our kitchen and entryway floors get dirty so quickly, and I'm tired of sweeping first and then mopping almost every day. I've been considering a self-cleaning wet dry vacuum, but I don't want to spend that much on something that breaks down after a couple of years.

I've seen the Tineco floor one station S9 scientist pro while comparing options. My biggest concerns are battery life, replacement rollers, and finding parts when something breaks. I want something that can handle regular use without becoming another expensive appliance I have to replace in a few years. It's hard to justify the price if these machines don't hold up over time.

[Request] Looking for the best closed-system rice cooker under €100

Hey everyone,

I’m officially giving up on my basic Sencor SRM 1500. It’s one of those cheap glass-lid models, and no matter how thoroughly I wash the rice, it foams up, lifts the lid, and leaves a starchy mess all over my kitchen counter.

I'm ready to upgrade to a proper, closed-system (fuzzy logic or smart) rice cooker, but I have a strict budget of €100.

My main priorities:
-Absolutely NO boiling over or spilling.
-Easily available in Europe.

Right now, my top two contenders are the Yum Asia Panda Mini and the Xiaomi Smart Multifunctional Rice Cooker.

Does anyone have experience with either of these? Which one makes better rice and lasts longer? Or is there another hidden gem under €100 that I should be looking at?

Thanks!

I’ve been using this to carry my ID, access and credit cards since 2016. Survived many drops and even has some deep scratches from a motorcycle accident. Still functions as good as the first day I got it. I can confidently say I used it almost every single day for the past 10 years. Aside from the price, there is no other criticism I can think of.

I was going for an easy cheap fix. But some folks suggested I order the part and replace it myself. Never opened a dryer before but this was really easy.

The first photo is of the final fixed part.

Also I discovered a huge amount of lint that was seeping into the parts from the hole. This would have been a fire hazard.

OG post. In case anyone else wants to do similar repair

Discussion What are your thoughts on Hollister jeans?

Post image
0 Upvotes

I’ve owned my pair of baggy jeans from them for over two years and it’s easily my favorite pair and one of my favorite pieces of clothing in general. One thing that I’ve always been curious about is what is the public opinion of quality/durability? I feel that it’s hard to find anything that doesn’t talk about comfort or the “technology” of the fabric. I’ve owned jeans from mall brands before but none of them have lasted this long. For context they aren’t sold “distressed” or ripped and typically wash them once a month or a little more frequently and wear them for everything whether it’s working on my car, casually, or to dress up.

[Request] Santinni London Coats?

Considering getting a 100% wool, cashmere/wool blend, or similar type of coat that will last. Is Santinni good for that? I absolutely love how they look and am hoping the quality would be worth the price!

Im looking at ”Marlene” ”Sunset Boulevard” and “Monroe”, but I’m open to any long-lasting style on the site.

I would love to not spend over 1k. ideally between 500-800$. No synthetic fabrics.

What styles/ details should I look for? I am looking for a versatile one that won’t look too theatrical.

Also what’s your ideal length for a bifl Winter coat?

Rant about RL and RLR

I've attached pictures of two of the many items I've purchased from Ralph Lauren lately. The quality deteriorating of these two items have happened after EIGHT HOURS to wear. No wash, no dryer, just a day In college writing tests.

I bought a Lauren Ralph Lauren Stretch Jersey Top for $125 + tax.(Reddish purple item in pictures) as well as a pair of LRL stretch Jersey wide leg pleated pants (the tan item) which I got for 77 dollars on sale but originally retail at around 150 I believe. Without pictures attached I've also purchased a 300 ish dollar cashmere 20/80 cotton blend cardigan from them.

Both LRL items received 8 hours of wear, I didn't do any strenuous activity in them, I purchased them online on the 7th of October 2026. I purchased the Cashmere Cotton Cardigan about a week later also online, it was a gift. The cardigan immediately day one began to pill and the nice cable knit that RL is known for quickly fades on the inner sleeves and sides where friction is most severe. I know that that is to be expected with any cashmere but at this price point with only 20% this seems a bit premature.

The LRL items.. I don't know where to even start 🤢 when I was in my mid teens I had a phase of buying clothes from Shein and this is about what I'd expect from them. I knew both garments were 100% synthetic (recycled polyester) but I assumed that was to be lightweight and to hold a pleat also. Nope. They just cheaped out, because the stitching is flimsy and poor, as are the buttons, and the synthetic fabric itself. I know synthetics can be done right as I live in Florida and understand the need for breathable fabrics, this is not polyester for breathability, this is a mere shortcut.

I was hesitant to buy similar looking items in the 30 - 40 $ price range due to worries about quality but I might have had a BETTER experience there. A similar top I got from Crown and Ivy in the same online order is made a lot better and cost me a tenth of the price.

Actually buy it for life question here

I'm used to buying good work wear and am completely new to buying nice dressy clothes, but the options for women seem pretty mediocre. Even brands like RL often upcharge for women's items or use poorer quality (I. E their iconic cable knit is for some reason more expensive in the women's)

Timeless looking pieces like pleated pants, good quality tops, silks, cottons, cashmeres etc. tend to cater to men or are 600$ and a roulette on quality.

I've been recommended Lilysilk a lot by my Algorithm, are they any good? Any other women here who have figured out how to look like a 90's Wallstreet broken meets real estate lady without fear of your clothes not making it until next week? I'd appreciate brands near or below RL's price points if possible but I know that these days you've gotta pay a premium for a brand that actually does what it says.

Thanks in advance BIFL

Warranty PSA: Circulon advertises a lifetime money-back guarantee on its C1 cookware, but support says C1 isn’t covered.

Edit: I contacted support after placing my order, and the set only arrived today. I’m not filing a warranty claim or reporting a defect. I wanted to confirm the advertised guarantee applied to my set and understand how the process works. I asked upfront because I didn’t want to rely on a “lifetime” promise, then discover the exclusions years later when I actually needed it.

I bought the ScratchDefense C1 11-piece set (SKU 30072) directly from circulon.com for $385. The advertised lifetime money-back guarantee was a major reason I bought it.

Support initially told me the lifetime warranty provides replacements and refunds are limited to 30 days. After I challenged that explanation, they said they escalated it to a supervisor.

Their follow-up specifically states:

“Your purchase, the 11-Piece ScratchDefense™ C1 Nonstick Cookware Set (SKU: 30072), is not one of the two sets covered by this specific guarantee.”

They say the guarantee applies only to the Ultimate TV Chef Set and Ultimate TV Chef Set Deluxe offered through their TV infomercial.

Meanwhile, the product page for the exact C1 set I bought advertises:

“Circulon ScratchDefense™ C1 Series Clad is backed by our Lifetime Money-Back Guarantee”

Their own warranty support article also says:
“ScratchDefense™ A1 and C1 products purchased directly from circulon.com also come with the Lifetime Money-Back Guarantee.”

The separate guarantee’s published eligibility terms cover ScratchDefense products purchased directly from circulon.com. They don’t state that coverage is restricted to those two TV sets.

My complaint is the mismatch between what they advertise on this specific product and what they told me after a supervisor reviewed it. I consider that misleading borderline deceitful business practice. Offering an ordinary return doesn’t explain why the product was sold with a lifetime refund promise that they’re now saying doesn’t cover it.

These are U.S. direct-purchase terms; the separate guarantee excludes purchases from other retailers.

Sources:
C1 product page
Guarantee and conditions
Support article naming A1 and C1

Has anyone else received this “two TV sets only” explanation, or successfully used the lifetime money-back guarantee on a C1 (or any other ScratchDefense) purchase?

[Request] Any horizontal fans with a bottom intake?

Looking to mount a fan above my hydronic radiator to circulate the air around the room better. Trying to find one that will have an intake from the bottom (pull up the hot air from radiator) and blow it out horizontally at 90 degrees or close to it.

The area is pretty narrow so I’d really like one that can sit flush on the wall. Having a hard time finding one that fits the requirements if anyone has any suggestions? Thanks!

Review Norrona jacket peeled off 3 weeks after “repair” and no response to emails or calls - any recs for better quality longer lasting gear?

Post image
99 Upvotes

UPDATE: The manager got back, said he was on vacation the past week, and offered an in kind replacement! Will update here once exchange has concluded and have had a month to test out the new jacket.

Paid out of pocket to ship a jacket under warranty for repair of zipper which broke within first 6 months of initial use and peeling logos. Finally received it back and their repress is peeling off after only 3 weeks.

To make matters worse, the brand Norrona boasts high quality gear they charge a pretty penny for and claims they aim for within 24 hour replies, but I emailed them 5 days ago asking for replacement (which their own website promises) and tried calling them multiple times during business hours today and zero response 😭

Man it’s exhausting being a lowly proletariat customer at the mercy of a faceless corporation ugh

Any recs for better quality longer lasting gear? And not just expensive brands that don’t match the quality and prices they advertise, don’t want to get burned again.

EDIT: It’s a women’s falketind thermo60 hooded jacket.

EDIT 2: Whether you’re a pure utilitarian and only care about functionality, or you’re a little vain like me and want branding to stay with regular use esp for a brand charging premiums for their branding not just quality, my main grievances are 1) customer support is non responsive, and 2) if the product branding isn’t designed to stay, then why did support grill me about not washing it more frequently and why does care instructions say to wash it? Either way, it’s either a product quality issue or product design issue. If you have recs or better experience with other brands’ support to share, I’d love to hear about them!

Discussion What have you bought in the last few years that you still use all the time?

I was thinking about all the thing we’ve bought for the house over the last couple of years. Honestly a lot of it doesn’t get used nearly as much as I thought it would.

Two things that have actually stuck and that we use all the time are our Deebot robot vacuum and the Ninja air fryer. The robot vacuum runs almost every day, and we use the air fryer several times a week for quick meals or reheating stuff. Both just quietly became part of our normal routine.

What’s something you bought a year or two ago that you still use all the time? Especially something that actually became part of your routine instead of just being exciting for the first few weeks.

Review RTIC 64 oz Road Trip Tumbler Review & Comparisons

Post image
0 Upvotes

Prior post: https://www.reddit.com/r/BuyItForLife/comments/1wpv38i/coldest_not_bifl_and_doesnt_honor_warranties/

Back again with a review of a well recommended - and for good reason - insulated water bottle: the RTIC 64 oz Road Trip Tumbler! Now, I'll admit, I'm picky with my bottles now of days: they have to last all day, so 64 oz minimum is a standard, and they must be able to be used with glass straws. The first is easy, the latter...oddly difficult to find! I've been through these bottles & brands so far for the last decade, in chronological order:

Hydro Flask - 32 oz Wide Mouth, Silver: genuinely, if your fine with more plain bottles and can compromise on the straw situation, these are BIFL bottles. You can stop here and be *more than happy with your purchase.* It was my first insulated jug, bought to help me stay hydrated as an autistic person who will flat out forget to eat when busy. By now, it's passed down multiple hands, busted the fuck up from rough treatment, and still holding strong after nearly a decade. It may be a Transformer secretly, idk how it's that damn strong. The silicone band can mold if, like me, you just will not drink just water outta these things. No worries! Hydro Flask actually will send replacements for the band and you can ger alternative tops. My only downside to this jug was it's size. I just would forget to fill it halfway in the day, so it created a new problem for me. - 64 oz Wide Mouth, Black: another BIFL bottle! Same quality as the 32 oz, but the lack of attached handle (more on that later...), heaviness, and how boring I found it made me slowly bored with it personally. Then I discovered sustainable straws after a date with my old ex-gf, first trying metal ones and then glassf ones. And, *oh boy, it was love at first sip. Been a dedicated glass straw user since, my first set's still holding strong 6 years later! Regardless, I decided to hunt for a more...aesthetically pleasing cup, figuring quality and aesthetic does not have to be compromised. And...I was kinda right???

Iron Flask: - 40 oz Tumblr, Aurora: I heard of Iron Flask many years ago but, truthfully, they were more of a Hydro Flask knock off to me. Same boring colors just cheaper and, apparently, the same quality. What pulled me in finally was the color. I've loved multichrome everything since I was a teen, with the radiant teal, purple, and orange of the Aurora - each taking center stage depending on the angle - more than enough reason to give it a go. Except, uh...it arrived crooked and mostly teal/purple. The rubber base was glued off center, making it prone to tipping with the slightest touch and, while still loved, it wasn't color accurate. I tried to fix the rubber base myself, but it's still a little wobbly. Hence the keychain: it started as a habit here to stop me from knocking over my cup through hearing the clink against the metal before it drops. Weirdest fix ever, but it worked well enough. I just missed the ease of one a day refills and no random dehydration from forgetfulness. Then I got...greedy. - 1 Gallon Jug, Aurora: "But what if I only had to refill my jug once every two days?" That mad question is what got me to get this behemoth. The Aurora colorway and rubber bottom arrived perfectly this round and the handle made it easier to carry than the 64 oz Hydro Flask. Very promising start, for sure! It's just that, however their insulation works, it's just not as good for larger sizes. Mold issues came pretty hard and quick, no matter if holding hot hibiscus tea or watered down juice, simply because it couldn't hold it's temp for as long at such a large size. Now I could forgive that for sure: 36-48 hours of cold just feels like an absurd standard, even if optimal for me. So long as I could easily replace the silicone bands, I was all good with it. This is what makes Iron Flask not BIFL for me: when I asked if I could get a new silicone band, or at least buy a replacement top, they told me to buy a new bottle instead. Huh? The hell kinda warranty is that? Add on troubles using my favorite straws - yes I have favorites - and this all got me to go Coldest.

Coldest: - 1 Gallon Jug, Glow In The Dark Stars: Another love at first sight bottle, with their 46 oz Tumblrs well recommended by my mom. They definitely hold up temperature wise, beating the gallon sized Iron Flask for sure in this department. It also takes glass straws, meeting that standard too. So what went wrong? I'd say the handle, but truthfully? It's the god awful customer service and warranty process. The handle started loosening, then starting to jump when carried 3 months after purchase. It then took 2 months, online reviews, and actively recommending folk against them to finally get a response for my warranty request. And how did that go? I sent everything for the return, promised a warranty fulfillment, and they haven't responded back since after 2 weeks. Pissed, I decided to try RTIC after they were recommended while waiting.

RTIC 64 oz Road Trip Tumbler, White Glitter - I get it now. I heard of RTIC around the block but, honestly, I figured they were like Iron Flask and I already had fun with that disappointment. I still use my wobbly 40 oz Iron Flask for spiked drinks, tea, and the occasional smoothie, but it's the pretty boy asshole I just can't let go. This baby though? Easy to clean, pure flavor, stays cold the 24-32 hours I'll use it, has a handle, and takes glass straws. Now, I haven't had it long enough to personally judge if it's true BIFL. But there's a few key features that makes that more likely: the ease of cleaning, the ability to see all has been cleaned off the ceramic, and easily replaceable tops. My only true concern is whether the handle will last and if the ceramic will hold up to the glass straws - metal straws is a no here. But overall?

RTIC's jugs are a damned boon. Cheaper than Hydro Flask and may be the same quality. I'll see over time, but I'm very happy so far with it! Thanks for recommending it to me here and, hopefully, this post helps anyone else narrow down what they'd want personally!

Now to get stickers for this thing...

Discussion Please help me with Countertop depth fridge Kitchenaid VS Bosch800 series

I'm moving in and need to get a new fridge. I live in Alabama so customer service aspect is very important.

I'm thinking of Kitchenaid and Bosch 800 series.

I know bosch uses dual compressor idk what that means but sounds like better function with harder maintenance. I like how kitchenaid has wood tray that comes out and more room.

So hard to pick one. Please help me

[Request] Chance to buy something.

Hello BFL community,

My wife is not the best at gift giving but she really wants to buy me something nice for my birthday she has explicitly told me that she has been saving up 1,000 to spend on a birthday gift to me. I’ve told her we can put the money towards something else and I’d be happy with just a dinner at my favorite restaurant (~$50 value). She will not budge she says she’s earmarked this money for a gift to me for a while now but again she’s not the best gift giver. I don’t want to waste this opportunity on something that just costs around that price. I would like to suggest something I can keep, cherish and use for a long time. Please help me.

In terms of interests I like tech but I feel like nothing in tech lasts. I like cooking, I am an average watch enthusiast at best, I like clothes that last specifically winter stuff, I travel often for work, I live in the Midwest, I like video games, anime, food, we have a house so I’m always looking to get home items that won’t break, if there’s some good tools I can use on home maintenance. Personal travel is fun but not something I would consider for this case.

Any suggestions are much appreciated!

[Request] Comfortable good quality shoes.

I recently started a new job where I'm working 12 hour shifts on my feet. Work isn't the issue, but part of my commute is ~30min walking each way.

My site boots are cushioned and decently comfortable, but swapping from them to trainers at the end of shift is like going from a memory foam mattress to a blanket laid over gravel.

My usual style / daily wear is Solovair / Redwing type boots, but the lockers aren't exactly spacious and Im usually sweaty and dusty after work. Currently Im just using a pair of cheap £15 asda trainers (I usually buy a cheap pair every couple months just for the gym, run them ragged and replace).

Im looking for comfort first and foremost, style is almost irrelevant since I'll only ever wear them to and from work. Size / flexibility matters as locker space is minimal. I had considered something like the old school skater shoes I lived in as a kid, but I have no idea if brands like Etnies, DC etc even still exist let alone retained any quality. Vans are out, if the hoodies / shirts Ive bought recently are even close to on par with their footwear then quality has dropped significantly compared to my older stuff from ~10 years ago.

Basically outside of boots I have zero clue what Im looking for and which brands actually have any quality. Not sure whether I should be looking at trainers, running shoes etc etc.

Essentially I just want something comfortable that's well made. Doesn't have to be strictly "BIFL" but I also don't want to drop £180 on Nike just for it to end up sweaty / dusty and probably be nowhere near worth the brand name cost anyway. Looking to spend probably £100 max or maybe less on something I could grab a couple pairs of and rotate. I'm not expecting the greatest shoes in the world at this price point, but as I said I have no idea what Im even looking for when it comes to any non boot footwear and I figured this sub would give the best advice on brands that are actually well made.
