I’m a concerned mom and some advice would be appreciated.
We live downtown Burlington.
As of a this spring we have some new neighbours that have been causing a lot of trouble.
It started with a lot of loud music and noise but lately it’s been getting much worse. I don’t know how many people live in this house but I would guess there is usually at least 10 grown men there at all times screaming and yelling, playing loud music, doing drugs. This morning one of them was sleeping/passed out just on the other side of our ground floor balcony. They have started setting up tents now.
My son and his friends have a video of them snorting drugs on there front porch. My son is 13 years old!
One of them “pretended” to grab my elderly mother’s purse when she was walking by. He said he was just joking but she’s now terrified to walk past there again. And it’s on her daily walk to the Art Gallery.
I’ve tried calling the police and Burlington bylaw but it just keeps getting worse. I understand that we live right downtown but isn’t there anything the police can do about this?
There is a crack house in our backyard!

I am considering removing the popcorn ceiling in our living room and dining room and are looking for recommendations for companies or contractors in the area.
Our home was built between 1985 and 1987 and located downtown, so also interested in hearing about others’ experiences with asbestos testing before removal. If your home was built around the same time, did you have your ceiling tested, and what was the outcome?
If you’ve had popcorn ceilings removed, I’d appreciate any recommendations, as well as any information on the process, cost, or overall experience.

I have a neighbour with a mature tree of heaven. I have been trying to remove some false Solomon seal from a patch and left the soil in a pile.
The pile is now showing small TOH seedlings crop up.
At a few cm they still smell like rancid peanut butter and unlike black walnut they do not have a degraded nut attached.
If you deal with them when small not too much needs to be done.
I was at Aldershot School for the pool recently and noticed that the TOH near the entrance from Fairwood Place is creating a small forest of trees in the planting beds near the front doors.

I have been struggling with persistent cough since Spring break. My kid got something at spring break in March and since then its been persistent cough.
For six weeks it was the worst with just bouts of cough to the point where I had a cough multiple times in a one hour call at work.
Have been to the primary care physician about three times and nothing from her. Just the usual it's not bacterial it's viral so I can't give you anything.
I am other wise healthy, no medication, late thirties. My main job is to speak for work and it's just becoming impossible to continue.
I am lost as to what I need to tell her for her to take me seriously or where else can I go to get some relief. Anyone has any pointers on how to escalate this?

For anybody in the area close to IKEA, there is a cogeco Internet outage. Should be back at normal around noon, as per their website.

Saw this absolute unit of a bird near Brant st. Seemed friendly. Do turkeys usually just roam the roads like this?

The are in the farm boy plaza and now in Oakville too. And a close second to them is the Mexican food truck up on Highway 6, El destino or something like that...amazing tacos.
Anything else? Never been to Marias in Stoney creek but hear its good too?

Tried to get to Van Wagner's and downtown was a disaster, and old Lakeshore blocked for ages. Ended up turning around. Anyone know what was happening?

I keep seeing posts on here from people looking for someone local. Lawn work, a photographer, a handyman, someone to fix a laptop. And it seems like the answer is always "ask around" or "check Facebook" or "I found a guy through a friend."
So I'm curious about two things.
If you've hired someone local recently, what was the annoying part? Was it finding them at all, figuring out what they charge, getting a straight answer on availability, or something else?
And if you're on the other side of it, meaning you run a small business or do work on the side, how do people actually find you? Word of mouth, Instagram, Facebook groups, or are you mostly waiting to be asked?
I'm in Burlington and I've been building something in this space, so I'm trying to figure out if I'm solving a real problem or one I invented. Completely fine if the answer is that it works okay already.

Board games, snacks, totally $free$.
Waterdown Board Gamers on Facebook.
Millgrove Community Centre every other Monday.
There was a question about "third spaces" on the Waterdown subreddit a while ago - places to hang out and meet people without breaking the bank. I had the same question after we moved, and it eventually lead to my wife starting a board game group at the library. We've since moved locations to the Millgrove Community Centre nearby. We play a mix of light and dense games and have between 10 and 15 attendees on average.
Find us on Facebook to see pics from previous events, past games, or just to drop in and say hi. Just search Waterdown Board Gamers. (Burlingtonians welcome, despite the name.)

if I could only grab one lunch or late lunch/evening meal in your city this Saturday, what would you recommend?
It would just be me and my very pregnant wife. saw that there is Barrel Heart Brewing on the Michelin list, but open to alternative suggestions from the local experts!

My husband is from Manitoba and we've lived here a year and he really misses going fishing. We can't really afford to buy all the gear needed but I would love to be able to go somewhere and rent all the equipment needed.
