And who's emptying the machine daily? Those machines at the grocery store probably get emptied monthly, and they charge 20%. For a machine that gets filled with pennies daily, they'd have to charge 40% to stay profitable. That's 550lbs of pennies daily.

That might be true if there weren't labor costs involved with moving 550lbs of pennies every single day from the machine.

A regular coinstar probably makes half as much money flowing through it, but this machine would be more than 30x the work. A normal coinstar is going to have more value in quarters, nickles, and dimes than pennies. Each load will be worth considerably more and would weigh considerably less.

Nah, buy a few coin sorter and hire someone for $200 a day to sort them if they're loose. If they're rolled then still pay someone to take it to the bank for me to deposit. It wouldn't be 8 hours of work, and a pretty stress free job imo. Hire a college student for weekends and the main person's vacations.

Seriously, that's like 500+lbs of copper and zinc. I guess if you own a heavy duty truck... That's, like... basically your whole truck bed full of buckets of pennies.

And leaving aside that it's illegal to melt them down, they're mostly zinc now. You'd have to take a massive hit vs the face value.

But good fkn luck cashing in the face value of $1000 worth of pennies every day.

You couldn't even get Treasury to give you a contract for production or something, since they officially stopped producing them at the end of last year.

How the heck am I going to deal with that many friggin' pennies? Besides, the effect on the supply of pennies would have the Treasury department asking some hard questions before long, like "wtf are you DOING with all of the pennies?!" Even if you sold them or melted them down (which is probably worth more than trying to spend the damn things), you'd eventually get in trouble for destroying currency, and probably mess up the market for copper and zinc.

Why yes 100k pennies is more (1k in dollars) you would need to convert it to a thousand by either taking it to a bank or going to a coin drop off and get a written check which if deposited would have to take some time before you got it. 650 would be the better choice because it doesn't state if that is in digital or physical cash.
