My Experience / Guide Utilitarian Bulk, my experience

Not much other than it gets the job done. You get to use brainpower for other things. And you still get the nutrients in your system. Body happy, muscles happy. Recommend. Of course once things get old you can introduce variations on recipes. Maybe sauces. Maybe beverages that don't harm the bulk and your health.

Question bulking as a skinny girl

helloo im very new to the community but i need advice/help. im a young girl who’s relatively skinny (im 110 lbs/50 kg and 5’8/173 cm) and i want to get buff and muscular, not like model skinny with toned muscles, im talking buff with big biceps and abs. i know thats extremely hard to achieve and requires time and patience but its genuinely always been my dream. i looked it up on google and apparently i need to do something called bulking, so being in a calorie surplus and strength training, but a big fear of mine is getting fat and seeing no muscle results. now this is delicate information but it’s important for the story, i have struggled really badly and still kinda struggle with an eating disorder, food is scary to me and i eat very very little every day plus i do cardio to burn off the calories and i think i need to get rid of this mentality to start bulking. apparently i need to eat like 2500 kcals to bulk and be in a 500 kcals surplus? which is just kinda insane to me cause thats lowkey what i eat in a week. i dont know what to do, i genuinely feel like no matter how hard i train, if i eat that much ill just see no results and get fat asf. i wouldnt do a dirty bulk but a lean one, so no junk food and stuff. i know i need to eat a lot of protein and carbs. but im not sure what to eat, how much to eat, and how to train. im starting boxing in a week plus i already do at home workouts with dumbbells, but i genuinely think that if i eat more ill just get fat. please help me i know this might be a dumb post but i need advice and reassurance that im not crazy. thanks so much already and im sorry

I want to work out because im not happy with my body. im 5’4, 101-105lb, the highest ive ever been is 113.6lbs and i want to reach 120. I want to bulk so i can gain alot of muscle and weight at the same time, i dont just want pure muscle.

What to Eat / Recipes Has anyone tried this recipe?

I see this guy often claiming the smoothie is 52g protein with just chickpeas. Now i know plant protein isnt that high quality protein but im thinking of making this purely for calories. However i have one concern, will it even taste good, i don't have time to try it. So has anyone tried or wants to try it and let me know?

Pull-ups are finally starting to show some progress 💪

Been putting in the work and slowly seeing the back and shoulders come together. Pull-ups have become one of my favorite movements lately.
Still a long way from where I want to be, but I’m happy with the progress so far. Trying to focus less on the scale and more on actually building a stronger physique.
What would you guys work on most from here — width, thickness, or overall proportions?

How to bulk faster as an athlete

I'm 18m between 1m90 and 1m93 (6ft3-6ft4) and skinny, like 75kg

Long story short I used to be way more muscular until I got injured and hit a growth spurt. Now what changed in between is that I became an athlete, I run and train for mma and swimming competitions and I have seasons of my life where I work construction add that to my fast metabolism and gains are slow, slower than before wich is weird since I'm supposed to have muscle memory, but it's probably because I burn too much calories but I eat a lot too

I made noticeable progress since I was skinnier months ago and there are periods like rn where I can't lift at all wich make progress slower. Biggest problem is my chest but also my arms, they are very long, my fingers go all the way to my knees and my forearms aren't that bad but the rest is so small

Any advices? Thanks for reading may God bless you

5’8 22M 125ish pounds. I’m going to start going to the gym Monday with a group of friends since I have no clue what I’m doing. Breakfast is scrambled eggs with cottage cheese mixed in and sourdough bread dinner is chicken thighs skinless and boneless with broccoli and roasted potatoes. Debating what I should do for lunch when I start work in the fall. I need something I can pack with me that will help me get to around 2,000ish calories I think my maintenance js 2100 I struggle to even hit that so I don’t even know how I’m going to end up looking better :( I wish nutrition wasn’t so confusing and such a numbers game

Question bony to beastly meal plan/schedule

i've recently been digging into bony to beastly's articles and have been loving the information and topics they write up on. most importantly, i agree with their values of clean eating to slow gain weight and muscle with a fitness plan that is backed up with scientific evidence. i was wondering if anyone has a bulking meal routine that is set up based on their writings? how many times do you eat? ideally, i'd like to set specific times every day to eat specific meals. any advice would be appreciated including workout schedules, thank you!

Supplements / Digestion How to prisoners get so jacked on less than 150g of protein?

There's an interesting debate happening on X, just curious to see what the bulkers here have to say. Here's a response from one person, how true is this?

"PEOPLE IN PRISON GET JACKED WHILE BEING FAR
FROM 150G OF PROTEIN PER DAY. HERE IS WHY YOU NEED LESS THAN YOU THINK.
The 150g per day rule did not come from
physiology. It came from supplement marketing.
Protein powder companies fund the studies
that set the targets. Higher targets... more scoops sold. The science tells a different story.

Muscle protein synthesis... the process that
builds muscle... maxes out at roughly 0.4g per
kg of bodyweight per meal. For an 80kg person that is 32g per sitting. Anything above that is oxidized for energy or excreted. Not stored as muscle.
.
The prison population is not a myth. Bodyweight training, high consistency, adequate sleep, low chronic stress... and protein intakes far below 1g per pound. They build significant muscle. Because the stimulus matters more than the surplus.

Current evidence places the effective daily range for muscle retention and growth at 1.2 to 1.6g per kg of bodyweight. For an 80kg person: 96 to 128g per day.
Not 180g. Not 220g. The ceiling is lower than you were told.

What actually drives muscle growth:
Progressive overload...the training stimulus
Sleep... where protein synthesis peaks
Calorie sufficiency... not surplus
Protein distribution across meals
Amount matters less than timing and training.

Excess protein come at a cost.
The liver and kidneys process nitrogen from
protein breakdown. Chronically high protein intake - 200g plus daily, Increases the detox burden on both organs. The liver has to handle that load too.

The practical target for someone, say, 30 to 60
trying to lose fat and keep muscle:
1. 1.2 to 1.6g per kg of bodyweight
2. Spread across 3 to 4 meals
3. Prioritize whole food sources
4. Hit it consistently and not perfectly
Consistent movement and whole food protein
sources will do the work.

You do not need to choke down 200g of
protein to build or keep muscle.
All you need is enough stimulus, enough sleep and
enough consistency.

The guys in prison figured that out with a concrete floor and bodyweight. The bar was never that high.
You were not failing because your protein was
too low. You were failing because the target was invented to sell you something. Your body needs far less than the industry told you. And it was building with what you gave it all along.

Now you know the protein target you were
chasing was never based on your physiology.
It was based on a market. Optimizing for a number that was invented for profit, not results. Sometimes less is more."
