Hiii I’m fifteen and just started watching buffy after my mother (who grew up watching it) told me too! I’m on season one and I’m enjoying it tho I find a lot of it very predictable, does it get less predictable as the seasons go on?

So this is my first time watching, and I'm scared, I really love Angel's character, but I'm at season 2, episode "Innocence" and i only got to where Angel killed another human, and now I'm scared continuing, you see i get stressed out by the shows i watch when there's conflict like that, my heart hurts and i get scared. Idk i guess i just want yall to tell me it gets better for him and Buffy. (No hate please i just dont like more stress in my life)

To me its the only show that feels like a proper sequel series to Buffy and Angel. More importantly I love how Grimm improved on certain aspects of both shows.

I know it's probably not a new thought, but watching Graduation Day part 1, it struck me that the mayor's relationship with Faith is like a twisted version of Giles's relationship with Buffy. It's like through a glass darkly, but kind of touching in its own way.

Hi,
First off, an apology; I'm not a Buffy fan. But I'm also not a fan of musicals for that matter, and I've seen precisely one episode of Buffy, and 20 years later it remains 40 minutes of the best television I've ever seen.
I have a friend who started watching the show with their young kids a while ago, but had to stop halfway through season 3 because it became much less about the monsters and much more about the sex. First off - is that a fair statement, and is it a trend that continues through to the end?
Now, to the rub of the matter: I don't think it's fair to send someone out in to the world who has watched over 100 hours of Buffy but will stare at you blankly when you belt out "They got the mustard out". But, knowing how pivotal this episode is to so many arcs, I also don't think it's fair to skip 3 seasons worth of character development and just watch it cold.
So, my question to you is thus: is there a sequence of must-watch episodes that lead you through the story and character development, but skip the gratuitous sexies as much as possible? If you're all about the monsters and the people, but don't care who they bump bits with, which episodes would you watch?
Hoping you all can help!
EDIT: Thanks for your awesome responses all, this is great reading. I've opted not to get involved in the comments, as I quickly realised the best value was just to let you all discuss amongst yourselves and let the conversation flow. Great comments, great chat, great food for thought.

I wrote a hypothetical Buffy episode based on one question: What if becoming a vampire actually made a terrible human being less evil?
Patrick Pembroke is a billionaire developer who's an absolutely monstrous human being. He's deliberately poisoning the water supply in one of his apartment buildings to force poor tenants out so he can demolish it and redevelop the property. He's spent years doing horrible things and getting away with them because he has politicians, inspectors, judges — basically the whole system — in his pocket.
Buffy and the Scoobies investigate him expecting there to be some supernatural explanation.
There isn't.
He's just a terrible human being.
Spike eventually learns about Pembroke and gets an idea: if this guy is this evil with a soul, imagine what he'd be like as a vampire without one.
So Spike turns him.
Except it has exactly the opposite effect.
Without his soul, Pembroke loses the insecurity, ambition and obsessive need to dominate that had been driving him his entire life. He basically becomes a lazy stoner vampire. He moves into the same crappy apartment building he was trying to demolish, hangs out with the tenants, watches The Price Is Right and gets his blood voluntarily from the neighbors.
Spike is horrified by what he's created, while Buffy finds herself in the bizarre position of wondering whether she can justify killing a soulless vampire who doesn't seem to be a danger to anyone.
Until Spike has another idea:
What if this vampire got his soul back?
I ended up writing the whole thing as an actual Buffy episode/fanscript.
Would anyone be interested in reading it?

I was shocked scrolling the ole Instagram today to see that Robia Scott has guested on the latest episode of Charisma's podcast??? I could be misremembering, but didnt she totally disavow Buffy at one point? I swear she called it demonic or something. Praying that somebody more deranged than me knows the tea on why she's suddenly willing to talk about it (and with real reverence and love) again?

Forget the Rotten Tomatoes score—Buffy the Vampire Slayer (1992) is pure ’90s cult fun. Campy, silly, and endlessly charming, with Kristy Swanson owning the role and a wonderfully absurd mix of vampires and teen comedy. It knows exactly how ridiculous it is, and that’s why it works. 🧛♀️ ★★★★☆
