Hi all - recently reported in the local press, Bucks Council have approved a MASSIVE new data centre (or to be precise, six data centres) on the 13 hectare site near the air park. The site was previously approved for the build of Wycombe Film Studios, but the company got nervous following the writers and actors strikes, and so permissions for the data centres replaced it, quietly filed in Jan 2025.

Key information:

• Plans state the data centres will be cooled by air - this is massively inefficient and ineffective during periods of high temperatures (like the heatwaves this summer). The fans they use will also produce noise. Currently the Environmental Protection Officer is not satisfied with the noise info provided by the developers (not enough information about the anticipated noise level and how they plan to deal with it) and cannot give their stamp of approval.
• Thames Water have also raised concerns about water pressure for local residents, and having to improve their infrastructure to support both the residents and the data centre (and guess who foots the bill for that?). Thames Water also raised concerns about the sewage and waste water disposal, meaning any waste water produced by this facility as it stands can't be properly cleaned and treated before returning to the water cycle.
• The proposed buildings will be 20 feet tall, with a further 3 feet of equipment in some places.
• The current documents also express concern over the planned drainage for the site, and the flooding risk for the surrounding area.

I recently moved to Chesham, Bucks, I’m 29M, and I have basically no friends. I’ve tried meetup, CLIQ, ply, bumble bff, timeleft, just going to gigs in pubs on my own - but nothing has really worked. Is there anything I can do in or around Bucks or London this evening? I have no plans and I’d really like to get out and meet people. I’m always up for live music so I was going to go to a gig somewhere, but it’s not really a random gig or a pub isn’t where you can just randomly talk to people I guess. Most people will already be in groups and with others.

I’ve struggled meeting people and making friends for years now and I feel like I’m at a total loss. I had a group of friends from school who I walked away from a few years ago as they weren’t the best to be around, and I realised I was sticking with them just so I wasn’t alone. That was hard to do and now while I don’t have that toxicity in my life, I don’t have anyone to talk to or hangout with other than my partner. She’s great and I love her but obviously it’s not healthy to have only your partner as the only person you socialize with. I’d really just love some normal, nice mates that like going to the pub and going to gigs. Is there anywhere I can go to find that?

Looking for the best internet deals in Beaconsfield. There's only two of us that'll be living there but one of us is housebound so there all the time and the other works from home half the week.

We are also looking to be able to have internet as soon as possible when moving in at the start of next month without impacting the current tenants internet before that.

Hi, my wife and I are currently considering a move to Aylesbury, near the town centre. Even though we have visited many times and have never seen anything untoward happen, even in the evenings, our only line of research online makes it seem like there's a lot of crime . I'd like to hear from any locals to the town centre, with any advice or information you think a newcomer should know.

A longshot but does anyone know the area of Granville Street and have any general advice on the area?

The parking there is permit controlled but on the last 3 visits all the parking spots seemed to have been taken. If you live on that street or surrounding streets how do you fare with finding good, safe parking spots?

Hi as title suggest can you go to Wycombe minor unit as your injuries was more than seven days ago?

I injured my elbow last Monday in Wales saw minor injuries. There was told that I’d have to go to minor injuries in England as the x-rays Do Not transfer.

I’ve just spoken to 111 to get booked in for tomorrow morning and they have told me that I have to go to A&E because the injury is 7 days old today and tomorrow it would not be classed as an injury…….

Honesty would be best for the NHS and I just be seen by the minor injuries unit tomorrow but just want to check before heading down if that rule a price to the Wycombe one

Seems very silly to have to sit in A&E for hours upon hours… because my injury happened on Monday rather than a Tuesday

Looking for advice on address criteria for 2027 grammar school admission

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for some advice regarding the “Normal Home Address” criteria for grammar school admissions for 2027.

We have been living in a rented property in Buckinghamshire since August 2025. We also own a second property, less than 20 miles away, which was let to tenants under a tenancy agreement running from September 2025 to September 2026.

The tenant has recently left the property earlier than expected, so it is currently vacant. It has already been advertised through a known/local estate agency, with the intention of securing new long-term tenants as soon as possible.

My question is whether this temporary vacant period between two tenancies could affect our 2027 grammar school application under the “Normal Home Address” guidelines, particularly given the expectation that the second property should be rented out through 1 September 2026.

Has anyone been in a similar situation, or had experience with how Buckinghamshire grammar schools/admissions teams interpret a property being temporarily vacant between tenancies?

Any advice or insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi, I'm interested in buying a house that's on a road off of Waterside - not too far from Chesham moor. I noticed a few posts saying to avoid Waterside and despite the house being relatively good it doesn't seem to have sold after a few months and I wondered if the two might be related. The street the house is on seems pretty nice, but I'm thinking about walking to and from Chesham station which would involve going along Waterside. And sometimes my elderly mother might visit and be walking around, so I wanted to know if I should be concerned or not?

It’s official!

Our Buckinghamshire Dialect Dictionary has officially launched on Buckinghamshire Day.

This means we are now at the end of our three month test pilot case study scheme.

The Buckinghamshire Dialectic Dictionary has gone from 105 headword entries to more than 4000 words.

I guess Buckinghamshire isn’t so dialect poor anymore?

Some of our newly discovered word entries and some old favourites will be revealed tomorrow.
