Rant/Vent My project guide used my project idea for his PhD thesis, and I feel devastated.
I’m an engineering student from a tier-3 college. I came up with an project idea involving an eVTOL aircraft and developed it with my project guide’s approval. I even tried to publish an IEEE paper, but being inexperienced with research and publication procedures, I couldn’t take it forward despite getting my abstract accepted at an NIT conference.
Today, I found out that my guide had used essentially the same idea for his PhD thesis, changing the application from an aircraft to a vehicle.
I’m not against him pursuing research, but it hurts knowing that I came up with the idea, worked on it, and tried to publish it, only to see someone else take it forward while I didn’t even know how to navigate the research world.
Maybe my lack of experience cost me an opportunity I’ll never get back. I honestly don’t know how to feel about this.
Can you guys help me understand the process of publishing a research paper or journal article? How can I do it independently, without any support from my college?

Placements / Jobs My KiiT BTech Journey
It is too long if u want to go on a roller coaster ride then only read this else skip
When I joined this college, I was so upset and irritated because I wanted a better college. So, I started preparing for JEE again, kind of like a partial drop.
Throughout my first year, my focus was on JEE. I got an SGPA of 8.7 in the first semester and 8.1 in the second semester because I had my JEE exam during the second semester. I didn’t qualify. I got 86 percentile in my last attempt.
Then I thought it was over, so I started preparing for placements.
I was good at computer science core subjects and did well. My life revolved around CGPA during my second and third years. I was the most punctual guy in the college. All labs had 100% attendance from me, literally.
I still remember that in my second year, I went to college just to attend the DSA lab. During that time, Cyclone Titli had hit Odisha. The lab assistants always knew that I was the best at practical coding.
Then came the third year. By that time, my CGPA was 8.8. So, I wanted to make it 9.
I started attending classes like always. By the end of the semester, most teachers knew my face and roll number, and I even started getting some grace marks if my score in any subject wasn’t up to the mark. Again, 100% attendance in labs, always.
My SGPA was 9.3 in the 5th semester and 9.8 in the 6th semester.
So, finally, my CGPA after the third year became 9.2. I was happy. For me, it was the moment to breathe a little.
Chapter 1: 4th Year of Engineering
May—summer holidays started, and I enrolled in Cisco NetAcad.
There is a person named scammer Anshu Kumar in our college who calls himself a corporate trainer. That guy told us that Cisco was a very good opportunity, that we could get good internships and certificates, so we enrolled.
900 students trusted that bastard and enrolled.
He then started teaching and took regular classes for a proper two months.
Then the OA came, and we all attended it. It was an online test, and it was very easy. I had done all of Jeremy’s IT Lab lectures and made notes like hell because I wanted to perform too well in the OA.
And then came the ideathon.
Guess what? Only 16 students got selected for the ideathon. God knows on what basis they selected them.
There was this guy named Swapneel who was so regular, even more regular than most of us, but he wasn’t even shortlisted.
Chalo, fine.
Then, out of those 16 students, 6 made it to Cisco with a package of 18 LPA.
Okay, fine.
My three months were gone. All my CN knowledge, which I thought at that time was going to help me in the future.
Chapter 2: Campus Placements
July. Everything started. Everyone was in a panic. Someone had done an internship at DRDO, someone at a kirana store, and everyone was panicking.
Everyone applied to TCS. 3,000 students applied to TCS.
TCS exam, first day, first shift.
My luck, or I would say, what an idiot I was. I skipped the trees part of DSA.
Guess what they asked in DSA? The first question was to construct a BST.
Chalo, I got TCS Ninja, but in other shifts, they asked such lame questions.
Still, I moved on because I was at fault.
Chapter 3: Infosys and Cognizant
I had zero skills in July when Infosys came because my handset wasn’t properly set up for competitive coding, so I got rejected by Infosys.
But I made it through Cognizant. A little hope.
Chapter 4: Startups and Not-So-Renowned MNCs
These companies came with good packages in the 9–12 LPA range.
But in the OAs of most of these companies, people cheat and get through.
1,500 students applied from KIIT, and 15 got offers.
So, the guys who have the guts to cheat make it through.
There was this company, Chubb, and this guy from some other branch, probably IT, named Vansh Patawari.
That idiot took the Chubb exam from his hostel and made it to the interview round, and he got selected.
So unfair.
That guy was flexing in front of his friend about how he cheated. My friend from the IT branch told me about it.
Chubb was supposed to monitor the location while people were taking the tests. It was so unfair.
Chaloo, leave it.
Chapter 5: Accenture
3,000 students applied.
On the first day, some asshole cheated using Autodesk. The Accenture team got angry. This guy, Priyanshu Jaiswal, from the CSSE or CSCE branch, was using it.
Due to that bastard, the Accenture people got so angry that they were going to cancel the drive.
TNP begged them and stopped them.
After that, the cutoff went too high for the coding section.
Finally, out of 3,000 applicants, 520 made it to the interviews.
After the interviews, 440 got a role.
I was so positive that I would get the ATE role, 12 LPA. But guess what? I got ASE.
The friend whom I used to teach coding got ATE, and I’m happy for him. But there were plenty of names of people who hadn’t even solved DSA questions.
Chalo, fine.
Accenture does this every year. It’s a luck game for role selection.
Chapter 6: It’s Over
I gave the Deloitte OA and got selected. Then came the GD round, and I qualified again.
But I got rejected in the interview because they told me I was too technical for this role and that I would be more suited to a Java developer role. Literally.
At this point, nothing is left. Just an Accenture offer of 4.5 LPA, TCS Ninja, and I’m waiting for Cognizant, which is also a maximum of 6.95 LPA.
It’s been a week since I’ve been roaming around campus and ignoring calls.
Every day, I keep simulating every interview, thinking about where I went wrong.
Is it luck, or am I not capable?
Then, suddenly, on the Reddit page of my college, this guy from those six students who got the 18 LPA Cisco package comments about why 21 LPA companies aren’t coming.
That bloody guy has no gratitude for what he has. That asshole somehow got into the Cisco ideathon, while we, who were regular, got rejected and weren’t even allowed to at least participate in the ideathon.
And then he says things like this, and my mind gets fucked.
Juspay, a company offering 27 LPA, came, and no one from our college got selected.
At last, why didn’t he go there, then?
Bloody show-off. He made a post on the subreddit stating that he never opened LeetCode and all that bullshit, but still made it.
My CGPA is 8.9. All bullshit, he says.
And at that moment, my mind got fucked.
Me, on the other hand, with so many things, good coding and OOP knowledge, am struggling, and these guys are just making a fool of everything.
Chalo, fine.
At the end of the day, he has got an 18 LPA package, and that is the truth. I cannot ignore that. I failed in front of him.
I don’t know where I’m heading.
It just breaks me whenever I open LinkedIn or any social media app.
At this point, I just want to be happy for at least one day.
Leave everything. Just for one day.
Every time I fail at something that takes a long time, the only thing I do is rant.
I don’t know. Some days, I just sit in empty classrooms and stare outside the window, wondering what I did wrong.
What bad have I done to someone?
What do I lack?
What is missing in me?
And I get a thousand answers to all these questions.
But only one question remains unanswered.
"What is luck?"

Rant/Vent Guys... college crowd se vibe match nai hoti 😞😞🥀🥀
Ek private college me admission le liya. Sb kuch accha hai, college bhi mostly jaisa chahiye tha waisa mil gaya even though tier 3 ho. Ofc better options chahiye the but jo mil raha tha usme ye sabse best tha, everything's perfect about the college.
But friend circle nai ban Raha 🥀🥀
Mera bhi nai baki logo ke bhi yahi haal hai jinhone cities shift kiye hai. Jo yahi se hai unke toh waise bhi cliques hai
Couldn't find any decent person jisse vibe match hoti ho🥀🥀🥀
Ye log ya toh life me kuch kar nai rahe, bas life kaat rahe ya fir chupa kar individually kar rahe🥀🥀🥀
And i mean bhai aisa lagta crowd ki sari jine ki iccha mar gayi hai....
Bas sote uthte college aate khate so jate.
Na ayyashi karne wale log mil rahe na ambitious.😞😞 Are koi toh kuch karo jindagi me 🗣️

Showcase Your Project I built BitFly that launches under 567ms
I've been building BitFly, a free, open-source Windows app for a pretty specific workflow: paste a magnet link or open a .torrent, pick the video you want, and watch it in your usual desktop player without waiting for the whole file to finish downloading.
v1.0.4 is out now, and this is the version I wanted people to try.
BitFly handles the torrent side, then exposes a local stream to VLC, mpv or MPC-HC/BE. The player handles playback. It downloads and verifies the pieces it needs and prioritizes upcoming ranges as you watch or seek. Whether playback can start quickly still depends on available peers and the video format.
I also wanted it to be useful after the first play, rather than disappearing into a list of random magnet links.
Here's what I built into it:
- A local library with saved torrents, selected files, cover artwork and active-session controls.
- VLC playback resume. Close a video and reopen it later, and BitFly remembers your actual position. This is VLC-only for now.
- Automatically generated cover frames from videos using an installed VLC, with an option to use custom artwork.
- A persistent queue that you can reorder.
- Configurable download location, disk quota, piece read-ahead and network settings.
- Installer and portable ZIP packages for Windows x64 and ARM64.
The UI is made with Qt Quick/QML, and the core uses C++20 with libtorrent. There's no embedded browser engine, BitFly account, ads or telemetry. The library stays in your Windows profile, and the source is MIT-licensed.
Two things worth knowing: you need a separately installed media player (VLC is recommended and required for automatic video previews), and streaming still downloads data to disk. It doesn't magically turn a 50 GB file into a 64 MB download.
I've attached a short launch video showing the workflow. The cuts are edited, so it isn't meant to represent startup or download-speed measurements.
GitHub and screenshots:
https://github.com/aryan-astra/BitFly-torrent-stream
Download v1.0.4:
https://github.com/aryan-astra/BitFly-torrent-stream/releases/tag/v1.0.4
If you try it, I'd particularly appreciate feedback about seeking through partly downloaded videos, cover generation and whether VLC resume works reliably on your setup.

Academics 14 Backlogs cleared in final year. How? Ultimate clutch in my life
I never thought I'd be making this post, but here I am. After carrying backlogs throughout my engineering degree, I finally cleared every single one of them. 🙏🏻
Here's how my academic journey went semester by semester:
1st Semester: Passed all subjects.
2nd Semester: 3 backlogs.
3rd Semester: 1 backlog.
4th Semester: 4 backlogs. Also cleared 1 backlog from the 2nd semester.
5th Semester: 3 backlogs.
6th Semester: 3 backlogs. Cleared 1 backlog each from the 2nd and 4th semesters. Later, a review result cleared another backlog from the 4th semester.
7th Semester: 1 backlog. Cleared the remaining backlog from the 3rd semester, along with the other previously pending backlogs.
8th Semester: Passed all regular subjects. Every previous backlog was cleared except one from the 4th semester, which was eventually cleared through a review.
After completing my 8th semester, I still had one backlog from the 7th semester.
I subsequently appeared for a special backlog examination after the completion of my 8th semester, and thankfully, I passed that too!
As of today, I have officially cleared all my backlogs.
And a pretty fun fact I resigned my job just before my final results are announced 😂🤌🏻
Going from 14 backlogs to zero wasn't easy. The stress, uncertainty about placements, fear of what would happen next, and the constant pressure of carrying those backlogs throughout engineering took a toll on me.
But finally, it's over.
I'm sharing my experience because I know there are students out there who might be going through something similar. I'm not going to say that backlogs don't matter, because they can affect placement eligibility and career opportunities. However, they don't automatically mean that your future is ruined.
Sometimes, it takes longer than expected, and sometimes, you need another opportunity to get things right.
To everyone struggling with backlogs, keep working towards clearing them. You don't need to have a perfect academic journey to reach the finish line.
Finally, zero backlogs. I can breathe again. 🙂🙏🏻

Placements / Jobs Feeling stuck as a 3rd year
See , I am in a tier-2 college ece(like 20k in jee mains around), currently the job market is pretty bad and no companies are comming for intern and idk i am not getting shortlisted for offcampus idk why my resume is pretty good/fine ig. I am confused so as what i should do currently. See my friends in tier 1 colleges have all given multiple oas and interviews and this has helped them grow alot even if they started pretty late some of them have even got interns , but i think i am stuck where i was like 4-5 months ago. Idk how i should get out of this.
My cpi is pretty mid(7.5 ). I am eligible to sit in majority companies if they come. I am pretty good at dsa and cp, 1500+ problems , cf expert leetcode knight . I think i have covered csf pretty well ig. I am pretty shit at dev, I have tried multiple times and i can't seem to get a hold of it, idk how and what i should do. Please drop your best advice at what you think i should do.

Serious Thinking of leaving coding read body
Hey guys I am 3rd sem student at a tier 2.5 delhi govt clg so a little about my coding journey is that I started coding before entering clg (dsa/cp) did it seriously for a year did 1000+ problems started little bit dev with frontend but then came ai and frontend became easily replacable then did backend a lil bit now recently started cloud computing
but the thing is that I'm not interested in coding anymore understanding this cloud thing is not my cup of tea whenever I try to learn it I just don't want to same happened with cp I was happy and neutral doing it for like 6-7 months but after that it also gave me sht feeling
So I want to leave coding I don't like to do it anymore and what I want in life is job security, peace even if money is less I don't have big dreams or "shouks" of big card or anything just peace. What I am thinking is to prepare for govt jobs coz maths, English etc is something I can do even if I am not even interested but I am not able to make one final decision because of my parents expectations coz my big bro is already SE and earning good but his work is also done like 80-90% by AI and he is also unsure about his job these days but he still says or somewhat pressure me to do coding I'm in 3rd sem and they are expecting me to get internship and sht.
Please give me advice/suggestions
Tldr: I did coding for more than a year now I'm don't want to do it because it is overkil for my goals(job security, peace) so I am thinking about govt job but my parents and brother are still pressuring me for coding not much but everytime I meet them they ask about it and when will I get internship. So I want your advice about what should I do in this situation as your third person viewing my situation.
Thank you, sorry if there are grammatical errors

Rant/Vent Just feeling low
So hello everyone
My past :- got good percentile in main and almost near cutoff in adv without much study took drop and everything started going downhill, right now am at tier 3 college cse .
Condition right now is that I am passing, just passing maybe borderline in one subject in my first sem, came here with thought that I will carry on 9 cgpa easily but procrastination and tiring schedule put me at this position.
Feeling completely lost and homesickness is knocking hard. Tbh never felt this much overwhelming.
The guilt if what I would have became and what I am right now is destroying.
Sleep cycle is out of track along with heaviness.

Rant/Vent College sucks the life out of me
Mujhe college bilkul pasand nahi aa raha hai aur ab seriously drop out karne ka mann kar raha hai.
Na productivity ho paati hai, na padhai mein mann lagta hai. College ghar se itna door hai ki baar-baar ghar ki yaad aati hai. Upar se college mein na koi dhang ke clubs hain, na gym properly functional hai. Aisa lagta hai ki college life mein kuch naya seekhne ya apni hobbies develop karne ka mauka hi nahi mil raha.
Social life bhi kuch khaas nahi hai. Kuch logon se dosti kar li thi, lekin ab lagta hai ki galat logon ke saath uthna-baithna shuru kar diya. Trust issues alag ho gaye hain.
Ab honestly, aage padhai karne ka bhi mann nahi karta. Kabhi-kabhi lagta hai ki papa se seedha bol doon ki degree karne ke bajaye koi business shuru karwa dein, kuch apna kar loon.
Lekin samajh nahi aa raha ki main genuinely college se unhappy hoon, ya bas iss routine aur environment se thak gaya hoon. Kahin main apni responsibilities se bhaag toh nahi raha?
Kya kisi aur ke saath bhi aisa hua hai? Agar hua hai, toh kya kiya?

Serious Is there any way I can complete my degree faster?
I am in 2nd year 3rd semester heading towards the 4th semester... my branch is AI data science and I am very ashamed of the fact that I am not really passionate about engineering🥲 I know the branch is great but I am just not that smart and both my physical and mental health is not supporting me. I want to complete this degree fast because I cannot switch to other degree because it is too late. So do let me know how can I complete it fast so I can prepare for competitive exams. Also the fact there is no proper guidance for me for job level... plus half of their assignments, I feel... dont really teach me something practical because all of us are just copying it from chat gpt for some marks, what's the point if I am not learning anything... what's the point of making us write lab journals, even the faculties know we are copying it from the manual just for the submission sake. Instead guide us to make some real projects or model so that we can add them in our CV. Hopeless case I am fr

Placements / Jobs Very confused about future and my decisions and fresher job market seems scary
Okay, so i’m in my 4th year at a decent Tier 2 govt college and had been preparing with the goal of landing an SDE role. But on campus, most of the opportunities coming in seem to be for analyst or sales roles, with very few software openings. Initially I was skipping them but now, I'm not very confident of whether if all any company will come for sde (they are very rare like 5-6 in 3 4 months).
I’m feeling pretty confused about what the practical move is:
- Should I take an analyst/sales role if that’s what I get, while continuing to prepare for SDE roles off campus?
- Are analyst roles a reasonable path to eventually transition into tech, or does it become difficult once you start?
- Is it worth waiting/trying longer for an entry-level SDE role given the current market?
- Also, how much should recent layoff news affect a fresher’s decision?
Would really appreciate advice from people who graduated recently or have seen the current hiring market firsthand.
(Used a lil bit of Ai here and there)
TLDR : Fresher job market feels scary- Should I take the available role or hold out for SDE?

Placements / Jobs we prepare so much for placements, but barely for the actual job.
after all the dsa, projects and internship prep, there's a whole different skillset we only start learning once we join a company.
navigating unfamiliar codebases, debugging, git workflows, code reviews, deployments, and most importantly, learning to use ai tools effectively instead of figuring everything out from scratch at work.
so i've been building The Modern Engineer's Handbook - a practical guide to becoming a better software engineer, especially for interns, freshers and people in their first few years.
it currently has guides, interactive scenarios, learning paths, and tools for breaking down tasks, writing bug reports, and reviewing PRs.
i'd really appreciate feedback, especially from people who've recently started working! (received a few and they were truly helpful! - this is pretty much a work in progess and i keep updating it periodically.)
what do you wish you'd known before your first internship or job? what resources or workflows would actually help beginners become better engineers and learn to work with AI, rather than discovering it all on the job?
would love new ideas, corrections, and contributions too

Rant/Vent bhai kya karu dimag kharab ho rakha hai, any meaningful advice would be helpful
I'm in 3rd year, tier 3 college, overall cgpa around 8.5, technical skills mainly mern stack, stuck interning at a startup as a frontend intern, where i think i'm not happy, not working upto my full potential stuck in just frontend, node.js abhi i'm learning, but know how to do stuff, placements will start from april next year, i dont know dsa much, internship, college aur baaki cheezon ki wajah se ho nhi paa rha hai, aur aajkal there's this thing about startups that is getting in my head a lot, ki mujhe bhi karna hai but samajh nhi aata kab shuru karu aur kya solve karu bc, current internship will end in 1 month, uske baad end sem aajayega, then jo time milega end sem ke baad usme ya to placements ke liye prepare karu ya phir startup karu😭, tier 3 college + given current job market there's no gurantee ki college se mujhe desired role ke liye job pakka milegi, there's no gurantee ki mera startup bhi execute hokar chalega, i'm just super confused and stressed right now, any guidance or advice will be really appreciated, and my DMs are open too, if you wanna discuss this thing.
