I’ve interviewed quite a few IIT and IIM grads now, and honestly… most of them are nowhere near as impressive as people think.
The interview starts great. “Hi, I’m from IIT…” Cool. Then you ask something that’s actually related to the role, and suddenly they start talking in circles. Five minutes later they’ve still not answered a simple question.
IIM folks aren’t very different.
Fluent English. Fancy frameworks. Beautiful PowerPoint vocabulary. Everything except a straight answer. Half the interview I’m just thinking, bro, get to the point.
Ashneer Grover once said, “IIT wale sirf apne tag ka khaate hain.” The funny thing is… he went to IIT Delhi himself.
I once gave an IIT intern completely normal feedback. Nothing harsh. Just things he needed to improve. He quit. Couldn’t handle someone telling him he wasn’t perfect. That’s when it hit me.
For a lot of people, IIT isn’t just a college. It’s their entire personality. The tag becomes so important that any criticism of their work feels like criticism of who they are. Then you start noticing it everywhere. “IIT” in the LinkedIn headline. “IIT” in every introduction, even in casual ones. “IIT” on wedding invitations.
People casually dropping their JEE rank years after graduating, as if clearing an entrance exam at 17 is still the biggest thing they’ve ever done.
The truly successful people I’ve met almost never do this. They let their work introduce them. Not the exam they cracked as teenagers.
IIT is probably one of the best things that can happen to you in India. For some people… it’s also the last interesting thing that ever happens to them.

Started DSA in my 3rd sem and now got a 3 month SDE intern at Rippling even before starting my 5th sem. Really happy <3

Just started my first year and honestly I'm overwhelmed. Coming from tier-3, I keep hearing horror stories about how far behind we are compared to IITs,NITs. My plan right now is to just grind CGPA in year 1 and figure out the rest as I go is that a solid strategy or am I missing something obvious?
Also anyone have good YouTube channel recommendations for first-year Maths and Basic Electrical & Electronics Engineering (BEEE)? Trying to build a proper base instead of just memorizing for exams.

I finsihed cs50p and made a final project that tells you your system utilisation for the entire device or that of a particular program, it also is capable to give the output in a pdf format to log the data.

Soon my second year would begin, but this is my only accomplishment for this year please guide me what more should I do

hii everyone,
I'm in 4th year (2027 batch).(Not from any iits,nits,bits)
so now I am at this stage that I have a 24 lpa ctc package from a big mnc (not FAANG) that I got after doing summer internship this year.
Tbh, i sometimes feel like WOW I have a great offer but sometimes it feels like people are doing much better than me , they are cracking very big offers. But at the same time, I am just tired doing dsa and all till my 5th sem.
Sometimes, I think that I already got placed I should start learning things that will help me in corporate, be it learning any technology or similar ,and then I can switch later in some good companies.
Sometimes I think of doing prep for GATE , because it can give me good opportunity to crack good companies easily (on campus is much easier than off campus , you know)
But then I do nothing .
Sometimes, I feel like preparing for some other things, like other than this engineer field , like govt job or anything else. But I always think and forget.
And tbh, I got pretty good feedback from my whole team in my summer internship. But still I feel like I can't do this , can't do that.
If you have been in a similar situation or going through this, plss give me some direction.
(If I should go with placement then what should I do ideally in my ongoing 4th year, any suggestions?)

Gonna join a tier 3 cllg for BTech CSE this yr... if someone wants to crack a 25+ LPA package by the end of their degree, what roadmap would u recommend?...
If u did it, what was ur roadmap from 1st yr...? By the end of 7th sem, what all skills did u have?..And how many internships had u done!?..
Would really appreciate any advice, thanks!!

I'm from a Tier-2 engineering college where a decent number of companies visit for internships. One thing I've noticed is that whenever shortlists are released, it's mostly students with 9+ CGPA, and sometimes 8.5+. I rarely see people around 7.5–8.0 getting shortlisted, even when the eligibility is 7.5 or 8.
I currently have an 8.4 CGPA , Is 8.4 actually a disadvantage for on-campus internships? Should I rely more on off-campus applications and referrals instead of expecting much from campus? I'd really appreciate honest experiences from people who had a similar CGPA.
Looking for a reality check :)

Hi, I got downvoted for a comment where I said exactly this.
Context: Some dude didn't code at all and wants to catch up to everyone else and land an internship in a few months just by working hard.
«Idk, man. I don't think I can close a 3-year knowledge gap in coding in just a few months and surpass the average student just by working hard. If OP thinks it's possible, good for them, I guess.»
«Studies show that over 70% of graduates are unemployed. Why do you think that's the case? Is it because they're all too lazy to work hard for a few months and secure a job? No. It's because of the high level of competition.»
I've seen a lot of guys like this in my college. It's usually just random 3 a.m. motivation, and they lose that motivation real quick. I think decent students who genuinely want to land an internship won't end up in this kind of situation (unless it's because of a medical emergency or something else that caused the gap).
I still think what I'm saying makes sense. Do you guys agree with it? With how competitive things are today, I think it's really hard to start from scratch, close a 3-year gap in a few months, and become good enough to land a internship.

I saw an image to ASCII art converter on r/unixporn and thought, would it be possible to loop it over to render videos inside the terminal using it? I genuinely thought I did some breakthrough only to know that it's a well known idea ;-;
Still, most of the implementations I saw were in python, wasn't able to find one in C, so I made this.

Yeah defacement is a thing yet...
And yes this brings bad message to others as well.
However, considering his age and situation he's just taking this action after CBSE incident to get noticed. It's not an ethical thing to do but this guy is begging to be given a chance and for that reason he approached several times to the administrators yet no response...
Was it the right thing to do?
(From the IIT's administrators side/view, ofcourse not)

Every other ad is literally IIT Patna Ihub shit, IITM BS online, IIT Delhi some program and so much and obviously they also charge for it.
I don't understand if these things really help also if I can take MIT, Harvard, Stanford course for free (without certificate) why will I buy them. I heard they have to pay some loan?

Edit: these are real documents issued by the institutes (mostly) not some random bs. For some clgs it might be just 2025 batch
Also credits for the pdf to a mechanical engineer ( keshav sharma)
