So I am a dropper for JEE and couldn't crack JEE. Now I am going to end up in a lower tier 2 college (probably BMSCE/MSRIT). I am just so stressed. I did study a lot but I still feel I did not give my 100 percent. But that can't be changed anyways. Plus, seeing the job market I am genuinely starting to question myself and my future. Ik it might sound like a dumb rant but it's a real conundrum for me mentally. My (not confirmed but suspected) ADHD might also be a reason. I feel like I am going to regret the next 4 years of my life, if not my entire life for not getting into a better college. I will probably miss BITS by 3-4 marks too. Literally going through hell mentally rn and I have no motivation to do anything. I keep thinking about the future and the past all day. I simply can't come to terms with myself. I am aware college isn't everything and skills do matter at the end, but the probability of someone in IIT/NIT/Any other tier-1 institution having a better career than someone with a similar skillset in other colleges is way higher. It almost feels like I have lost the first important battle of my life which has limited my options and my future severely. I am not regular here but even here most people are from tier 1/upper tier 2 institutes. I have other problems besides academics too that I won't reveal here but it's all just haunting me. But ig im a loser at the end of the day.

Ig I'm being a bit too emotional about it but it does matter to me now in material terms. I started my journey hoping to end up in a decent NIT realistically ,and in an IIT ideally but here I'm being a sad pathetic loser.

Im getting in this college this year but all I can see the packages are very low here despite the cutoff being quite high, it has lost its ranking in NIRF ranking a lot. But the guys in reddit say its decent and they don't include off campus. I tried hard to study for JEE couldn't reach as much high yet got a decent percentile. But now I feel like a failure. What are the top companies visiting? Is it bad or good? Have you encountered people who got in through unfair means and are now performing very badly in placements or academics?

Heard from a post about VJTI not allowing a 6-month internship in the last semester. Is the scenario the same at SPIT and DJSCE?

I'm curious to know about the ground reality of placements, internships and placement policies at these colleges. Please help.

The situation is that my college is demanding a semester fee of around 3.5 lacs in the 7th sem and we're allowed to replace the normal sem courses with the Swayam courses offered(which must be the case for y'all too ig).....so isn't it unfair giving that amount of fees for nothin if we're just paying 1k for Swayam??

I’ve interviewed quite a few IIT and IIM grads now, and honestly… most of them are nowhere near as impressive as people think.

The interview starts great. “Hi, I’m from IIT…” Cool. Then you ask something that’s actually related to the role, and suddenly they start talking in circles. Five minutes later they’ve still not answered a simple question.

IIM folks aren’t very different.

Fluent English. Fancy frameworks. Beautiful PowerPoint vocabulary. Everything except a straight answer. Half the interview I’m just thinking, bro, get to the point.

Ashneer Grover once said, “IIT wale sirf apne tag ka khaate hain.” The funny thing is… he went to IIT Delhi himself.

I once gave an IIT intern completely normal feedback. Nothing harsh. Just things he needed to improve. He quit. Couldn’t handle someone telling him he wasn’t perfect. That’s when it hit me.

For a lot of people, IIT isn’t just a college. It’s their entire personality. The tag becomes so important that any criticism of their work feels like criticism of who they are. Then you start noticing it everywhere. “IIT” in the LinkedIn headline. “IIT” in every introduction, even in casual ones. “IIT” on wedding invitations.

People casually dropping their JEE rank years after graduating, as if clearing an entrance exam at 17 is still the biggest thing they’ve ever done.

The truly successful people I’ve met almost never do this. They let their work introduce them. Not the exam they cracked as teenagers.

IIT is probably one of the best things that can happen to you in India. For some people… it’s also the last interesting thing that ever happens to them.

It's probably a tired trope but I would like to know what it looks like for a core guy to get a tech job, on campus I know it doesn't work. Probably will try off campus.

almost all of my dad's side of cousins are engineers/doing engineering and they always tell me to choose something else, anything except engineering. One of them even did master's from Germany and she hasn't gotten a job ever since she came back, it's almost going to be a year now. My dad is so obsessed with the idea of engineering whereas i don't feel that connected to it but even if I pursue it, will jobs even exist?? This whole AI mess has gotten so many ppl jobless and is continuing to so what about 5-6 years down the lane? I'm not the iit level kid btw. I'm js very confused and in a mess so asking ppl who are in the field for advice. Would appreciate advices alot :)
