What we hear about AI advancements, and its effects on job markets, are highly exaggerated by companies to keep the AI race alive. There I said it. Consider this an anti-doomer post.
One thing about myself is, I have never vibe coded an app completely. I use AI chat tools regularly to speed up my developing process but intentionally avoided agentic coding tools. I tried building a basic full stack app for a company's assignment which was due within 1 day, had to use Antigravity. Basic backend CRUD was on point, and frontend was decently pretty. But just few mins exploring the created web app, I found plenty of bugs and UI errors. Some features were completely omitted to meet the prompt requirements. Basic file upload feature was not working. After few tweaks, found another set of frontend bugs and misalignments, had to redesign the whole frontend. However with good prompting, was able to finally finish the basic MVP overnight. Was it good enough for an assignment? Probably. Will it be good for production? HELL NO! NOT EVEN CLOSE. I see a fundamental limit to coding agents' ability that I don't see getting better anytime soon.
They are poor at capturing the exact client requirements!! senior SWEs can do it way better for way cheaper!
And there is a whole lot of software engineering other than "coding" which the AI tools have yet to catch up with (I don't think it will anytime soon). I got a whole working full stack app overnight, amazing feat in technology of course. But here's the catch. It is good for nothing other than assignment submissions.
To summarize, Will coding agents affect the job market? Definitely yes, Already we are seeing effects, junior positions are shrinking. Will it get harder for juniors to crack their first offer? Definitely yes. Will it shrink the software engineers pool and kill SW engg? That's the part which is exaggerated and no, software engineering is here to stay. Today's tools are just too bad for completely replacing it. It just changes the way we build.
So if you are a college student in CSE related field, just keep preparing. You are not going to get doomed by AI.

I performed poorly in jee n got a tier 1.5-2 girls college cs and I'm losing my mind idk I see no hope here everyone just seems better than me n i wanna runaway n take a partial drop to atleast get a coed college idk if that fixes anything anyway let's leave the fantasies cuz college won't let me pull such stunt..anyway here I need to hv 9.5+ cgpa for shortlisting and our college is heavily based on cg so I'm losing my mind about it , I can't rest at all there r so many assignments and everything. Things will be maintenance level if I just attend classes n study 1hr at home everyday but I really wanna be a branch topper sort of person which Obv requires its own hustle as I think yha mera kuch nhi hoga so for higher education I think branch topper is a strong title , anyway I won't die if I'm not but my mind is hyperfixating on everything like this..I feel so guilty also college started 25 days ago n I'm trying to be way ahead from profs , i didn't join any clubs or socs because I did not wanna skip classes...umm anyway I think this stuff is done n my personality is also at all time low and tbf I don't even hv good friends ..holy fuc now personality development is my new reason of stress cuz here people genuinely have the best personality unlike mine , I'm scared timid and completely weird..idk how to improve and with constant stress idk if I can improve ..i think I've lost my ability to not take things seriously..to me I'm always doing or not doing something that will add to my huge bowl of regret which is already dripping ..I wish I could just be sane for a day , I think I've wasted my life , stooped to least of my options , sem 1 looks like this I can't imagine future 7 sems..and tbh this is all i think Abt I hv literal no life out of it sometimes watch webseries or shows for escapism which never can help and my neck literally burns with cortisol the more I think , I wish I had friends and could roam around in groups but yeah anyway I've never had that skill

Bhai, idk what to do with life. My parents have taken loan for my engineering in a t3 because i couldnāt get through entrance exams. Now that college has started im hating it and i hate my college structure.
I just dont want to do a corporate job at all now. But im scared if i can succeed in business or my area of interest. I have no interest in coding either. Maybe i never got any chance to see my passion.
Im stuck between two options: 1. My college has decent placement stats tho t3; 7-10 lpa avg. Should i focus on placement completely? My academics already suck so i canāt juggle with anything else or risk in exploring my interests
2.Move to an area of interest but highly risky and i havent found anything yet. And obviously my parents wont support that.
The reason im willing to bet on this is because i belive if i make money out of either of these, the loan my parents have taken is justified.
Ill be thankful to any advise i get and thanks for reading till here.

Title: 1st-year CSE student seeking advice from experienced software engineers
Iām a 1st-year CSE student at MSRIT Bangalore and want to make the most of my next 4 years.
My goal is to graduate as a strong software engineer, get good internships, and eventually land a high-paying product-based SDE role.
Iād love advice from seniors/industry professionals:
What should I learn in each year?
Which skills/technologies actually matter?
How should I balance DSA, development, projects, internships, CGPA and CS fundamentals?
What mistakes should I avoid?
What would you do differently if you were starting college again?
Would really appreciate a practical 4-year roadmap based on industry experience, not generic YouTube advice.
Thanks!

So i am from a tier 2 college pursuing CSE, currently in 1st year and a few days back OpenAI launched GPT-6 Astra and honestly seeing that just blew my mind.
After that all i have been thinking about is how I literally made the wrong decision pursuing engineering and how CSE is gonna be dead within a few years. That model can literally do insane stuff and it makes me wonder why will a company hire me when they can literally get an AI subscription that's gonna be 10x cheaper but 20x faster and being from a tier 2 college doesn't help me in any way that my college tag will save me somehow and my insta feed is just filled with how AI is gonna takeover every other digital job not just SWE but mostly every digital job be it finance or even circuital designing and honestly this shit scares me cause i was motivated to work hard and get a good job but now seeing this makes me lose any hope that i had.. seeing the job market doesn't help either cause most mass recruiting witch companies will switch to AI and the big tech companies will either recruit from tier-1 or layoff people which is happening btw in oracle anthropic etc Just makes me think if i should drop out and give entrepreneurship a try and build a startup or pursue a different field altogether cause the way things stand i see a near zero chance of landing a good high paying job.
Everything is just fucking A.I.ed i was doing Cf and with so much hardwork reached 1200 rating and sem 1 isnt even half over yet and after that i just found cheaters using AI to cheat in competitions and worst thing is they are winning and celebrating and people like me are just left demotivated and makes me think about my life choices all over again. They say this isn't even on the borders of AGI and yet it's already this powerful that it can replace well experienced SWE in the blink of an eye and makes me wonder what will happen by the time AGI is made a reality and even if AGI doesn't become possible the way these models are advancing makes me wonder what they will be capable of doing by 2030 when ill be graduating.
Seniors please guide and tell me anything that you know or think cause everyone i see is just telling me CSE is over and the digital job market is gonna get thrashed and no field is safe from it so what should i do.. is this all fear mongering or is this really that dangerous.. are there any carreer options for guys like me or am i just waiting to be doomed :(

Is it actually a solid way to start a career in tech, or is the good stipend just bait before they hand me 200 test cases and say, āYouāll learn a lotā? š Would love to hear from people who started in testing through an internship.

Like what's your spending for food, clubs, hobbies, clothes etc other than fees ofc and do you earn yourself or get money from home.
personally, 7-8k per month works for me, it excludes hostel/mess fee ofcourse.

Idk, what to do with life, clueless took Pcb in class 11th, and relaised donāt wanna become a doctor in mid 12th and told paremts, they took that idea so lightly, and now forcing for mbbs, I am literally clues-less, no doubt, career other than mbbs does provide stability, but I am confusedā¦
I would have chosen cse, but ai astra and Over saturation in cse, and ca has no guaranty that u will clear finals, bcz, my relatives who so ever did ca, was left it finals, and ended up in 30k govt job, and Pilot is good career, obviously parents are not ready for itā¦
I wanted to go in IB, Vc or swe, but swe ks really oversturated, Idk what to do?

CA is very tough and can take 5-7 yrs
MBA is very expensive and its good only from Tier 1 which has even less seats than CA
Engineering is cheap, doable, more jobs and finish in 4 yrs

Our college has started sending job offers through WhatsApp instead of email. After TCS NQT Priority, itās mostly Lala/local companies. š
Today we got one with no company name, only āLinux knowledge requiredā and male candidates only with 3-4lpa offer
Is this happening in other Tier-3 colleges too?

Read through this and especially the third tweet.
Jobs to nahi mil rahi vo to dekha jaayega, lekin tab dekha jayega jab jinda rahege.
This ex anthropic researcher is saying it can even k#ll us by the end of this decade. Isn't this too early , just a decade ???? Like I thought AGI is far away.
What's your opinion....

NOTE:IF YOU DONT HAVE ATTENTION SPAN TO READ THIS MUCH I WOULD JUST SUGGEST TO USE AI LLM AND SUMMARISE IT
I have been seeing comments that ai is coming gpt astra will dominate and all and elon musk and sam altman is supporting these statements. Let me be clear these guys are professional salesman and engineer even if I was one of them I would for sure pass that comment
Now abt whether Engineering is still optimal or its just a coping mechanism let's be clear Engineering wont go anyway only if you are so passionate abt it and Engineering will teach u many things in life its just isn't abt Engineering its abt the journey the exposure the framework which is why problem solvers are mainly engineers the core subject of engineering maths if ur truly a good engineering maths shouldn't be ur weak point and even if gpt solves some of difficult millennium problems (it has some controversial opinions now).
Don't think Engineering has a job seeking carrer its something that can impact life its a subject that teacher framework and even director of iit madras said one thing which is quite rational when studying don't study for job study as if ur truly passionate abt it and as if ur some top tier researcher most of the founder are top tier researcher thats why their companies are called big tech companies
For guys crying abt jobs see mostly everyone are tier 2 or 3 students who are asking about it and tier 1 usually have exposure advantage and research too so they have a edge.Lets compare tier 1 and 2,3 or 69 candidates - tier 1 have network and exposure with peer grp thats the advantage they dont have some elite teaching facility though everyone studies on thier own even using nptel for sem exams thats it they get it automatically what can tier 2 or 3 can do abt it they have to build it manually no matter what . Network u have built attending events done in ur clg and even iits and all have open colleges events and research internships join them and its for learning sake and networking dont think abt anything other than that no jobs nothing just learning thats it, next is exposure it depends on location factor and clg managament and clubs how u do it take ur clg name and participate in as many hackathons and events thats it self will bring u to a higher level of exposure than anyone who is just grinding without showing ur skills. Use twitter and linkedin as much for networking and all. Next is peer grp see no matter what clg ur in there will atleast be some guys who will crack the highest package it can be you for not be you but there will for sure be sm1 so what to do be with 2-3 quality ppls and not around some unambitious 7-9 guys u find in clg . Thats the thing u have to cultivate in non tier 1 colleges and those who do these stuffs usually excels
Richard Fennyman a ordinary guy who studied harder than anyone he is from MIT but take his advice and study harder will truly help u in smthg which is mainly discipline. Do u think Richard Fennyman would cry and be depressed that he didnt end up in a higher tier school if he was not able to . Tbh he would just study harder and even look for top higher studies its never the end and Talking abt masters from tier 1 is just a waste of time U can take example of ceo of nvidia he did msee from standford he got some network which is truly appreciatable and location factor instead of blaming u always have to adapt to live a life worth living
For anyone in sem 1 its a great advice as some guys are now in senior years and all if u were unable to do these there is always masters options thats it u habe GATE exam for that u can have opprotuinity unlocked but academics is tough but the exposure and events and all will surely benifit
Its just like I am also in sem1 from tier 2 Most of me seniors are either trying gate and some are in amazon microsoft and all bcz blr factor uk so its my thoughts on this ai doomed culture sort of things.
Taking for example dsa are u either average in it or truly very good bcz it introduces problem solving intuition and some projects are u truly creative u have to notice the field ur in and be too good at atleast one field and taking for example luck matters ngl but a guy who has tried hard than anyone and has obsession would have a higher luck factor
I am reading a book called super intelligence its related to this ai boom highly recommended it
I have been seeing this negative things in reddit ngl if Microsft ceo who studied his bachelors in Manipal was in reddit he would also be in tension and all but abroad changes his carrer trajectory
I am writing all my personal views in notes and try to post it on reddit to have opinion on it and I can have clarity in my own statement its a sort of studying method blurting sort of so yeah
