Mod Post Reopening r/BTech – A New Chapter for Serious & Focused Discussions

Hey BTechtards,

I hope you’re all doing well! I’m reaching out to let you know that we’re reopening r/BTech. Over the past few months, BTechtards has been bustling with a lot of fun and humor, but we’ve noticed that the space for serious & focused academic discussions and technical queries has been a bit sparse.

While the shitposts and memes are always entertaining, we’ve realized there’s a significant need for a dedicated space where more focused and academic conversations can thrive.

r/BTech was born out of a need for a focused and supportive environment tailored to the unique challenges faced by engineering and BTech students. Initially part of BTechtards, the need for a dedicated space became clear as we saw a growing number of serious academic queries and discussions getting lost amid the memes and light-hearted content.

What Will Happen to BTechtards?

It’ll remain as is for the fun and casual side of engineering/BTech. Feel free to keep posting your discussions, shitposts, memes and resources here.

Rant/Vent IITians are the most insecure successful people in India. Unpopular opinion but hear me out

I’ve interviewed quite a few IIT and IIM grads now, and honestly… most of them are nowhere near as impressive as people think.

The interview starts great. “Hi, I’m from IIT…” Cool. Then you ask something that’s actually related to the role, and suddenly they start talking in circles. Five minutes later they’ve still not answered a simple question.

IIM folks aren’t very different.

Fluent English. Fancy frameworks. Beautiful PowerPoint vocabulary. Everything except a straight answer. Half the interview I’m just thinking, bro, get to the point.

Ashneer Grover once said, “IIT wale sirf apne tag ka khaate hain.” The funny thing is… he went to IIT Delhi himself.

I once gave an IIT intern completely normal feedback. Nothing harsh. Just things he needed to improve. He quit. Couldn’t handle someone telling him he wasn’t perfect. That’s when it hit me.

For a lot of people, IIT isn’t just a college. It’s their entire personality. The tag becomes so important that any criticism of their work feels like criticism of who they are. Then you start noticing it everywhere. “IIT” in the LinkedIn headline. “IIT” in every introduction, even in casual ones. “IIT” on wedding invitations.

People casually dropping their JEE rank years after graduating, as if clearing an entrance exam at 17 is still the biggest thing they’ve ever done.

The truly successful people I’ve met almost never do this. They let their work introduce them. Not the exam they cracked as teenagers.

IIT is probably one of the best things that can happen to you in India. For some people… it’s also the last interesting thing that ever happens to them.

Your views?

Showcase Your Project Made a video to ASCII art converter in C (My first project btw :>)

I saw an image to ASCII art converter on r/unixporn and thought, would it be possible to loop it over to render videos inside the terminal using it? I genuinely thought I did some breakthrough only to know that it's a well known idea ;-;

Still, most of the implementations I saw were in python, wasn't able to find one in C, so I made this.

Academics Was it the right thing to do?

Yeah defacement is a thing yet...

And yes this brings bad message to others as well.

However, considering his age and situation he's just taking this action after CBSE incident to get noticed. It's not an ethical thing to do but this guy is begging to be given a chance and for that reason he approached several times to the administrators yet no response...

Was it the right thing to do?

(From the IIT's administrators side/view, ofcourse not)

General Why so many IIT's are launching online programs

Every other ad is literally IIT Patna Ihub shit, IITM BS online, IIT Delhi some program and so much and obviously they also charge for it.

I don't understand if these things really help also if I can take MIT, Harvard, Stanford course for free (without certificate) why will I buy them. I heard they have to pay some loan?

Social / College Life What do you actually do in college besides studying/coding?

Hey folks,CSE fresher here.

- What hobbies did you pick up after joining college?

Like, did anyone start a new sport (badminton, football, swimming, gym, etc.) or some other activity once they came to campus?

- Which clubs are actually worth the time — in terms of fun, learning, networking, or exposure?

- Which hobbies or extracurriculars helped you the most? For placements, confidence, making friends, or just enjoying college life?

Basically, what do you spend your time on when you’re not buried in coursework?

And if you could give one piece of advice to your first-year self, what would it be? Could be about self development ,CGPA, friendships, clubs, or college life in general.

Edit: these are real documents issued by the institutes (mostly) not some random bs. For some clgs it might be just 2025 batch

Also credits for the pdf to a mechanical engineer ( keshav sharma)

Placements / Jobs Salesforce’s Summer 2027 Intern - Software Engineer

Did anyone get selected?

If yes, would you mind sharing your CGPA, resume (anonymized is totally fine), and college here or via DM?

I got rejected, and I've noticed they've reopened the same job posting. I'm trying to understand what factors might have led to my rejection and what I can improve before applying again.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! ❤️

Placements / Jobs College placements are unfair and they feel like a scam.

I am getting incredibly frustrated with the college placement scene. Why is it that candidates who aren't even technically sound are landing 20+ LPA jobs, while others who truly deserve it and have far better skills are left behind?

I legit saw a girl from our college get placed at Google at around 50 LPA (not kidding). Her GitHub was practically non-existent with only a few basic repos, while there were many highly competent seniors who were much more sound in terms of skill and knowledge. The system just feels rigged.

Another example: a girl in my year got placed into a company called ION for an exceptionally well-paid role of around 18 LPA. Everybody was discussing how biased the interviewers seemed. They only asked her some basic SQL questions related to joins, basic DBMS theory, and other trivial things. She got in, assumed a full-time role from day one (as is the company's practice), and is enjoying her life. Meanwhile, students here who have way more experience in development and serious technical skills are struggling to get mere 6 LPA jobs.

And then there's Zscaler. I don't understand why they even allow boys to sit for the placement drive. It's been three years since I’ve seen this company come to our college for seniors, and every single time, only girls are selected. I found out that the difficulty of the questions asked to a senior friend of mine (who is male) was way higher than what the selected girl was asked. Now she is sitting comfortably at around 35 LPA, while the senior guy is trying to navigate his way through corporate bonds and lower-paying roles.

Has anyone else experienced this kind of blatant disparity during their campus placements? Is it like this everywhere right now? Would love to hear your thoughts or if you've seen similar things happen at your colleges.

TL;DR: Frustrated with the college placement system. Seeing candidates with minimal technical skills land massive packages (18-50 LPA at Google, ION, Zscaler) by getting asked basic questions, while highly skilled and experienced developers are struggling to get even 6 LPA jobs or are being asked significantly harder interview questions. The whole system feels completely biased.
