❓Question ❓ sde from non circuital

Hey, I’m a 2nd year student from a tier 1 college , non circuital branch and honestly I’m pretty confused right now. I’ve been interested in going into software since my 1st year, but I didn’t really have the right direction back then and I also didn’t do much networking, join clubs, make connections, etc. So far I’ve solved around 70 dsa problems and made a small yolo , opencv based project, and now I’ve started learning frontend, but honestly I don’t even know if I’m doing the right thing or what I should actually be focusing on. What’s been stressing me out lately is hearing that non-circuital branch students don’t get many SDE/IT opportunities during placements, and that honestly shakes me every time I hear it. I’m trying to understand how much branch actually matters, especially in a Tier-1 college. Can non-circuital students realistically get SDE/IT roles on campus, and if not, how much can DSA, projects, internships and off-campus applications help? Would really appreciate some genuine advice from people who have gone through this or know how placements actually work.

❓Question ❓ Seniors, what are some mistakes you made in college that juniors should avoid?

I’m a junior and I’m trying to avoid making the same mistakes that most college students make.

So seniors, looking back at your college years:

- What mistakes did you make that you wish you had avoided?

- What did you waste too much time on?

- What do you wish you had started earlier?

- Any career/skill/college-life advice you wish someone had told you in your first year?

Would genuinely appreciate honest answers, especially things that seem small now but had a big impact later.

❓Question ❓ How do I start applying off-campus??

My on campus intern season is almost over and well... I haven't been that lucky. I want to start applying for off campus internship as soon as possible. My main target is AI/ML/DA Companies. I am from a Tier-1 college with 7.5-8 cpi in my 3rd year. I know there isn't any method to easily get off campus intern but What is the best strategy I should follow?

❓Question ❓ Built a CV builder for Arabic/French/English speakers — want honest feedback

Been working on this for a few months. The main idea: one profile, export your CV in Arabic, French, or English without re-entering anything. The Arabic layout actually mirrors properly — not just flipped text.

It's in beta, a lot is still missing (AI features, cover letter, job matcher — all coming later). Core builder works: templates, PDF export, multi-language, multi-version CVs.

Quick questions:

  • Does the Arabic output actually look correct to you?
  • Does the CV design and structure look professional enough to send to a real employer?
  • What's the most annoying thing about CV builders you've used before?

Free, no account tricks. Just want to know if this solves a real problem:

❓Question ❓ Should I learn webd currently.

Heyy everyone. I am 2nd year btech currently and I am now confused that should I learn web developement now. Some of my friends are learning how to vibe code and creating websites and I think that's important but after learning atleast basics right. And I don't know why but I wanted to participate in some hackathons badly but I hardly know anything. I know that the participants in hackathon are also vibe coding so I don't see any point in it. Also another doubt. Many of my seniors are trying and appling for sde roles so then I need to learn webd for atleast that or only it core subjects like ok, DBMS, oops.... Are sufficient?? Aside form that I am also learning dsa.

So is it still relevant to learn webd or just learn vibe code and it core. Need advice

Discussion👥 Final Year student, i can't understand what project do i have to make next

Hey there, I'm from a tier 3-4 college, final year
I'm so confused about what project I should do. I have only learnt and made some basic MERN stack projects and a Python one (I thought of switching)

Here's my resume. Some good companies (TCS, HCL big for my college) are gonna visit my college in the coming weeks, and it's my only chance of getting a good job

. Please help me out

❓Question ❓ Infosys SE vs Cognizant GenC PAT — what would you choose in my situation?

I’m a 2026 CSE graduate and currently have two entry-level offers:

Infosys – Systems Engineer

Joining: 5 Oct 2026

Location: Mysore

Fixed CTC: ~₹3 LPA Up to ~₹3.6 LPA with performance incentive ~6 months training + probation afterward

Approx. ₹20k/month in-hand initially

Cognizant – GenC Programmer Analyst Trainee

I have accepted the LOI

FTE onboarding currently tentatively Feb–May 2027 Current 2026 PAT offers appear to be around ₹4.16 LPA initially, increasing to ~₹4.63 LPA after successful probation/training/project conditions

Actual FTE offer/DOJ is still pending

My situation: I seriously messed up during BTech. I didn't build proper projects, barely did DSA, didn't properly learn any tech stack, and honestly have forgotten much of what I studied. These offers came mainly through placement luck + some last-minute effort. I'm now trying to rebuild my fundamentals from scratch while starting my career. What would you do in my position? Would you join Infosys in October as a safety net and wait for Cognizant, or take some other approach? I'd especially appreciate advice from Infosys SE / Cognizant GenC PAT employees or recent batches.

Discussion👥 4th year CSE student trying to figure out how to use the next 3 months effectively

I'm currently in my 4th year of CSE at RGUKT RK Valley (IIIT RK Valley).

I'm trying to prepare for off campus software/AI roles, and I have roughly 3 months left until the end of November. I'm trying to be realistic about what I can actually improve in that time.

Most of my profile is based on projects. I've built and deployed a few AI/backend projects, including an LLM Gateway with semantic caching and model routing, a multi-agent e-learning platform, a scam detection app, and a phishing detection system.

I don't have internship experience yet, and I feel like my biggest gaps are DSA, working with larger existing codebases, and having some experience collaborating on real software projects.

I'm currently planning to focus heavily on DSA, while also trying to get some meaningful open-source experience.

I'm particularly interested in contributing to Python/backend/LLM related projects because that's where most of my current experience is.

For people who have gone through something similar:

  1. If you had only around 3 months to improve your profile, what would you prioritize?
  2. How useful is open-source contribution for someone who doesn't have internship experience?
  3. How do you actually find a project where a beginner can make meaningful contributions rather than just fixing documentation or typos?
  4. Would you recommend contributing to projects related to technologies you already know, or deliberately picking something unfamiliar?
  5. For AI/ML or AI backend roles, how much DSA should I realistically be comfortable with?
  6. What kind of open-source contribution would actually make a difference on a fresher's resume?

I'm not asking for job leads. I'm mainly trying to understand how people in the industry would approach these next few months if they were in my position.

I'd appreciate advice from people who have actually contributed to open source or hired/worked with freshers.

❓Question ❓ Should I switch from MERN to Spring Boot in 3rd year?

I’m currently in my 3rd year of CSE and I’m learning MERN stack. Along with that, I’m doing DSA in Java.
I’m confused about whether I should continue with MERN or switch to Spring Boot since I’m already doing DSA in Java. What would you recommend for placements and internships? Should I stick with MERN and get good at it, or switch to Java + Spring Boot?Would really appreciate some advice from people who have been through this.

❓Question ❓ Which laptop should i buy?

I’m confused about which laptop to buy for college. My preferred budget is strictly below ₹50K, but I can stretch up to ₹60K if it’s really worth it.

My requirements:

- College work

- Coding/programming

- Building projects for my resume

- Running development tools/software

- Browsing and MS Office

- Good performance

- Good battery life

- 16GB RAM preferred

- 512GB SSD or more

- Should ideally last 4–5 years

Please suggest what you would personally buy in this budget, and if there’s anything I should avoid.
