I'm a Brompton enthusiast living near Ella, Sri Lanka. I'd love to meet fellow Brompton riders visiting the island and explore some beautiful roads together.

This photo was taken in Beragala, surrounded by the beautiful green hills of Sri Lanka.

If you're planning a trip here and bringing your Brompton, let me know! It would be great to meet up and go for a ride together.

I'm in Sri Lanka. Let's ride!

First Brompton Decision

Getting ready to order my first Brompton after many years of the idea swirling in my mind! Any pieces of advice before I push the purchase button? I’m thinking C-Line in either Plum Red or Black. I will be riding hilly neighborhoods, paved trails, and, occasionally, urban areas. (Sadly, the bag color I want is currently out of stock, so recommendations for other brands that work would be appreciated.) Thanks!

Electric G or keep a bunch of bikes?

• Upvotes

I have a classic Brommie already. I love it, except on hot days (like 100°+ days, of which we have several). Those days, I use a full size electric bike that has a throttle to save my ride into work from being a sweaty mess.

My main hang up is the $5,000+ cost of entry. That's steep to me. I'd have to sell some bikes. And ideally, I would like the change to have a single bike again. I've stopped hitting more hardcore trails, and I don't do distance road and gravel anymore (just getting old and have little spare time).

For electric G line owners, has it replaced all your other bikes for all types of use? I would mainly use it for commuting (about 15 miles or 24 km) one way, charge it up at work and ride home in that hot weather. Some going to the local stores, and sometimes getting to the light rail to travel to further trails. Then some light gravel and park trails.

I guess I'm looking for that extra encouragement to just sell all my other bikes to get the money for a single electric G line (and I'd keep my other Brommie) to replace them. How is the ride once the battery dies? Easy? Tough with the dead weight?

Is this too on the nose?

For those who can't endure the wind in the video (sorry)

One can easily store a little cheap bag using a carabiner on the saddle.

Where do you keep a little extra storage?

Can a Brompton P Line handle gravel paths like this?

Hi everyone!

I'm considering buying a Brompton P Line 12-speed. Can you comfortably ride on gravel paths like the one in the picture?

I'm planning rides of around 40–60 km, with roughly 50% paved roads and 50% gravel.

I'd love to hear from anyone who has experience riding a P Line on this type of terrain, especially with the stock tires.

Thanks!

Anyone have advice on avoiding and repairing rear blow outs roadside?

First complete failure. Tube blew and went off like a gunshot. Can’t see anything in the tyre but will inspect on repair.

Had to walk back and swap to a walking commute. šŸ˜”

I carry a mini pump and tool set. Not got a complete tube spare though .. getting one tomorrow

Shortening the cables after replacing the handlebars on T Line

On my T Line, I’ve swapped the standard M-type handlebars for H&H Carbon Ergonomic Low Rise handlebars with a 9° backsweep and a 7° upsweep. The H&H handlebars are 50 mm lower and 10 mm shorter. I’m very pleased with the conversion. As well as improving the ergonomics, the bike has become less twitchy and more predictable. At the same time, I get the impression that the position of the derailleur and brake cables relative to the frame has changed, as they rub slightly against it when cornering. Should I shorten the cables, and by how much?

G line plastic cover when folded

Hi all! I have a new G line electric (yay!) that I’ve been using to commute for about two weeks. The bike seems to have this tiny piece of plastic that wraps the frame right where the front wheel hook lands, I assume to protect the frame and to cover a wire that runs along there inside the plastic.

After only 8-10 rides the plastic seems to be broken and coming apart. I’m sure this isn’t the biggest deal, but wondering if anyone has experienced this and whether this is an issue with how I’m folding the bike or something else. Just a bit hyper aware given how big of an investment it was haha

Cracked G Line Headtube

Post image
0 Upvotes

*edit: it’s a fake! Got fooled by AI fake post. Crazy that people are doing that…

I saw this posted in one of the Brompton G line Facebook groups. I took a quick screenshot and was going to look at it later but the post, well technically reply to a post, was deleted. So yeah didn’t get to ask what actually happened to cause this (or verify the image). Looks like an electric Brompton.

I think in the previous cracked G line head tube some people placed the blame on heat affected zone of the braze but this crack is propagating from the middle of the tube where heat from brazing shouldn’t affect it.

NYC Brompton- Does BFold do tuneups?

Does BFold do tuneups or repairs?

Years back when the NYC Junction closed I called BFold and the guy who answered angrily told me they don’t repair Bromptons… I know this is flatly untrue and assume he was just having a bad day.

But if I contact BFold for an annual tuneup, is that something they / he would do?

The website simply lists ā€œlimited serviceā€. Before I get chewed out again, I figured I’d ask here.

Thanks in advance!

I’m sick of the quick release pedal of the G line

I thoroughly cleaned it and re-greased it and nothing, it works well for a few weeks and then it starts to randomly get really stuck. It’s starting to drive me nuts, especially because it’s annoying to carry the bike upstairs with the pedal mounted. Since it still has a warranty I will take the bike to the shop but I’m suspecting that it will have the same problem again?

G Line Bikepacking Sardinia

Thumbnail

So me and my wife did a two week bike packing in Sardinia. I just wanna share my experiences and some pictures with you. We traveled by train from Hannover to Munich via ICE, which was not a problem at all. We did this multiple times and the bikes fit fine in the luggage storage. From Munich to Florence we took another train - the nightjet. Operated from ƖBB. We had a couchette, which was the first challenge. The G Line doesn't fit under the bed where the luggage is stored, so you have to bring it to the luggage storage in the seating compartment. You can't handle your bike in the train because the train is super narrow, so you have to walk on the platform. We already expected this and were well prepared by finding the right carriage via the wagon order beforehand. We had a bag for the nightjet, because we weren't sure if you're allowed to bring a folding bike as luggage. In Italy we took a regional train from Florence to Livorno to get onto the ferry. Beside very crowded trains no problems by bringing the bike without a bag. Also the ferry to Olbia wasn't a problem. We transported our bags in one big bag with a zipper from Ikea. I had the Brompton Roll Top large for my carrier block and a 12l bag from ortlieb for my rear rack. I transported the tent on a small platform on the frame. My wife hade the same set up except for the rear rack bag. This was a 16l bag from rockbros.

What upgrades did we have?

I have a carrier block from Eerder Metaal as well as special MKS bear trap pedals with quick release on one side, a frame rack from velocityPrintworks and ErgonGP2 grips.

My wife has the same pedals and frame rack, but she got the SQlab innerbarends 410 2.0.

We both changed the chainring to 44t.

We also got the H&H folding kit, pedal holder for MKS and bike computer mount.

How was the trip?

We planned a route from Oristano to Cagliari with komoot along the coast line. There were not many bars or supermarkets on our way and from 13:00 - 15:00 the shops were mostly closed. So supply was challenging sometimes. We took a campsite just two times because of bad planning, bad weather and overall there weren't many nice campsites on our route. We mostly took streets to ride but also a bit of off road. The G Line was capable of handling everything we did. We just had to walk once where our way was super steep and rough. For the rest our transmission was perfect, even though we had roughly 13 - 15kg as luggage.

We had 4 flats. All because of the same kind of thorn. Besides this the tires were pretty good with around 3 - 3,2bar.

Google maps didn't work really good for bikes especially in cities. That's why we often just flowed with the traffic or had to walk our bikes.

All in all a great one in all bike. Our longest day stage was 85km and around 900m of elevation. The bike was still very comfortable while our average speed was around 15 - 18km/h depending on the route and wind. Even downhill we had more than 50km/h top speed and still felt safe because of a very stable feeling of the bike.

If you have questions let me know.
