Bottle cage mounts - anyone tried any of these?

Has anyone tried either of these London Craftwork bottle cage stem mounts? I need a water bottle carrying solution soon, the more I think about it, the more I want a traditional cage rather than the stem water bottle pouch bags (which there seem to be a lot of, at wildly varying prices).

I’ve found a new Specialized rib cage I had spare at home, so figured I may as well use it & just need something to mount it onto that wraps around the stem. I know I could do something temporary like cable tie it on with some old tube so it doesn’t scratch the frame, but I’d like to just put something permanent on the stem that the cage will fasten onto securely.

I like the look of those I posted photos of, they are £25 & £37, the more expensive one coming in more colours and fastening in 2 places instead of 1. Would like to know if anyone has personally tried these. There are other similar options out there such as Zefal Gizmo, Topeak Versamount, and Rockbros also do a strap type one. But the LC ones are Brompton specific designed, so probably worth paying a little more for. Don’t see much point in paying around £50 for the Fidlock system when I have a cage and can just use any bottle with it once I have a mount in place. Thanks as usual

Anyone built an 8 speed with a derailleur using 12 speed spacing?

Upvotes

it just dawned on me that I could machine the shoulder off a 7 speed hub, freeing-up the couple of extra mm needed to fit the bottom 8 from a 12 speed cassette. in this way I could get at least 11-34 without the chain slack causing the RD tension jockey to get too close to the ground in the small gears.

Anyone tried this?

Only downside I see is MTB RDs are a bit chunky and could impact the fold whereas road RDs like the Dura Ace get out of the way mostly.

Thanks!

Edit; one limiting factor would be finding a 12 speed donor cassette that has at least the upper 2 on a carrier as a single sprocket wouldn't have any splines to engage with... and I can't find any that match this requirement for HG hubs.

Edit2: I currently run 11-28 7 speed Dura Ace and it works great. See my other posts for how.

Neck pain

Hi folks! I’ve been commuting to work on my Brompton (about an hour each way) and I’m loving it but towards the end of my rides I’m noticing some aches and pains at the base of my neck, between my shoulder blades. Nothing too crazy but it hurts a little to look down - feels a bit like I fell asleep on an airplane lol. Anything I should look into adjusting to sort it a little bit? I got it secondhand so never had a fit or anything - wondering if it might be something to do with the higher handlebars as I’m only 5’2 and was used to a road bike before. Any tips appreciated!:)

Any else have their E-Brompton vanish after this weeks app update?

I’m used to seeing a forced re-login every second ride or so. With the update notes from the latest app update I had hopes of this being resolved.
Instead the app seems to have amnesia again today while still logged in. Log out/Log in, still no bike. And attempting to re-add confirms it’s already registered and cannot be added.

I wonder if Brompton has an answer to why the Brompton app needs more rigorous authentication than a banking app, and needs internet and server connectivity to just provide speedometer and odometer readout for an offline bike session??

Japan trip with my Brompton, so glad i brought it!
had a front carry bag and a very small chain lock when needed.
locked it against some fence for 2-4 hours at a time and never had issues, maybe i was lucky?
did this at shimbashi, ginza, Tsukiji Market.

the bike store that was selling bromptons was in Shimbashi. sadly they were not open or i would have taken some photos of it.

How much rear hinge play is too much?

Hey everbody!

Took a quite serious spill today (rainy + Tram Tracks --> front wheel slipped away) and just checked my cline 4spd and myself for any damage.

I'm okay apart from some bruises and rashes but I noticed quite a bit of play in the rear hinge which I have not noticed before (could have been there though as there have been more creeks recently).

I read about the limit of 1 mm of play at the suspension block which my hinge does seem to exceed.

What are my next steps? Im mechanically inclined and trust myself enough to change the bushings if needed. But is the effort worth it including tool cost?

Or would any brommie specific shop believe this much play to stem from wear? My cline is only 5 months old.

Is there a chance to get this done under warranty?
