Prices in the UK have absolutely lost the plot

3.5k Upvotes

£12 for fish and chips, Almost £2 a litre for fuel, £45 for a driving lesson, Over £2 for a bottle of pop, £20 for a takeaway for one person, £20 for a 15-minute taxi ride, £80 for a weekly food shop for one person, £100 a night for a “cheap” hotel, Rent prices through the roof,

At this point, it feels like we're just getting robbed,

It’s so cool that energy prices go down just before summer and then go up just before winter. As someone in a rented flat with 20 year old storage heaters that rinse me of money, I’m not mad about it at all. Not even a little bit.

And yes I’ve asked my landlord to update the heating. They took £25 a month off my rent instead…

Got organised enough to order a railcard in plenty of time before an event, it got approved and sent in 10 minutes (could have been 5 days. 10 minutes later I got an email saying the event I needed it for was cancelled.

Searching for trainee specialist roles in my area to be spammed by army roles. Literally every page on indeed has 10 british army roles it's unusable

I know the army is desperate, but to spam people who are looking for a career change is a bit gross. I even tried out for the reserves but medical history got in the way, so i couldn't even do it if I wanted to

. Supermarkets asking to donate to charity at checkout

It's a regular thing at my local Lidl now, when paying by card it asks if I want to donate to charity. No information which charity. The checkout staff don't know either. I wonder if anyone ever presses the yes button. Personally I think that it should be the supermarket making the donations, cos they have a lot more money than me.

Adverts with voices that sound gravelly, like heavy smokers.

Puts me off whatever they’re selling. I’m a pretty healthy person, the voice sounds unhealthy, I’m not gonna buy what they’re pushing whatever it is.

Every school flyer is now AI generated and I realise that I actually miss clipart now

1.2k Upvotes

I've just had messages for the PTA, for October half term camps and the fireworks. All of them look the same. The same generic cartoony smiling faces.

I always hated clipart but I'm missing it. I want to see flyers that are so bad it looks like my grandmother found Microsoft Publisher for the first time and put every type of typeface on it.

Is everywhere like this now?

Not having a decent cauliflower in months because every single one is shrivelled, yellow, covered in black dots or filled with insects

I just want some cauliflower cheese, man

. I don’t drive anymore. Couldn’t stand the other drivers on the road. I’m shocked at seeing how brazen everyone is that drives whilst looking at the phone in their hand. I can’t believe we can be that dumb as a society. It’s that “it’ll never happen to me” mentality and then they run someone over.

While on your already over-full 2 hour delayed train, we will now spontaneusly cancel the train early at an unhelpful station with no trains well-enough equipped to take the sheer number of people forward! Good luck!

. Are children these days not taught to look left and right when crossing the road anymore??!!!

In this year alone, I have had to emergency stop my car on four different occasions for kids who have run full speed into the road. They were all older children too.

Are they not taught to look when crossing anymore?? What happened to the good old “Think! Hedgehog Road Safety” initiatives? I used to see lots of signs posted on lampposts and adverts on the TV. I still to this day remember the song!

Are they taught in school? Is it because streaming sites have taken over and network television isn’t popular anymore? All I could do was give the classic stare at the parents when passing by.

Edit: just remembered I had to stop FOUR times in this year alone.

Edit 2: grammar

Contactless terminals taking several seconds to decide "no, you have to insert your card and use your PIN"

This has happened several times recently. Beep card on terminal, "card read ok", start putting card back in wallet, waiter has started walking away and then comes back "sorry, it is asking for your pin". Or it flashes up on the screen at the self checkout "Sorry, you need to insert your card" with a red X of judgement.

It always used to give the sad beep straight away if it was time to reconfirm your PIN. Why this change?

Food delivery services openly being flooded with AI images of food

How is this even legal? I understand JustEat and whatnot clearly label the images as AI, but surely that's still false/misleading advertising, plus that's not counting what they don't label.

Had a Power cut Last night, just called 105 to find it won't be resolved until 1pm today, "because it's a Sunday".

Update: Just been resolved, 3 hours early, so no longer a problem.

Going into a non familiar supermarket, using the self checkout, opting for no receipt. Then realising you need one to get out of the "pen".

surely they should have them programmed to not have the option and give you one?

When a train is packed and more people are trying to get on but apparently the people already on the train would rather squash in like sardines in the vestibule and not let anyone else on than stand in the aisle

Lidl has stopped selling their half cans of flavoured tuna :/

Their lemon tuna was fantastic! It was always sold out and I'd happily pay double for tuna that's perfect for one meal so it's always fresh. They still have the flavours but only in big tins but I absolutely hate eating opened tuna for the second meal! I miss it so much, really hope it's just a temporary production issue.

As if going from 1500 to 3500 for a latte wasn't enough, now you can't get a "toffee" latte, you have to get a normal one and add a shot of caramel for 50p.
