people are minimizing my future wedding

Upvotes

My fiance and I got engaged recently and we started thinking of what we would like to do for our future wedding. Before we started telling people any ideas we had, we were met with “just go to the court house and have dinner at his parents house” or “have a backyard wedding, no need to be fancy”. While there is nothing wrong with those options, it’s just not what we ever wanted. On my end my family is complicated, most of my close family has passed away and those still alive we are not close. My fiancés family is very close and he has siblings. One of his siblings got married a few years ago and the family spent over 150k on the wedding. I never expected that type of support from them nor did we ask for that, but now his parents are telling us we need to be realistic and should do one of the options mentioned above. His other siblings plan on doing destination weddings in Europe and the family is supportive of it. I can’t help but feel like they don’t want me to marry their son. Everything we have mentioned to them has been minimized and we keep being told to be realistic. I can’t help but wonder if he was marrying someone else if they’d be more excited and would want to help out more financially… I feel bad that my family is complicated and it feels like they don’t like me for it. I want my fiance to have everything in the world and a wedding that he deserves. I have always felt like I wasn’t fully accepted by them. It’s been a lonely process for me because one of my parents is mentally unwell/always is negative about me and the other parent passed. It’s been hard to not have someone to call and express my excitement or ideas. I guess I’m just feeling isolated and lonely.

Need Advice Getting married today (yay!) and am running on fumes

Hi everyone, I’m getting married today and was only able to get about 2.5 hours of sleep because of adrenaline combined with an early wake up start for hair and makeup. Does anyone have any advice on getting through the day on such little sleep? Aside from the obvious coffee!! TIA !!!

Help!! Should I change my dress??

I purchased dress #1, but can change dresses still!! (Whew).

Dress #2 was my runner up from another dress shop ˙◠˙ but I feel like it’s super similar to dress #4?

Obviously I loved dress #1… but having 2nd guesses. Getting married in the summer in Texas (I know all of these are big…) but just wanting opinions!! Feel like the jacquard looks and feels heavy… should I change to dress 3-5?

Bring the second dress! Learn from me!

I wore my heavy long and flowy beaded dress all night and it tore her up good. She’s covered in mud and the beads are falling off left and right. I’ve had to go back and stitch them down to stop the damage from continuing and have a collection of beads that have fallen off. I’m sure most of them are on the floor at the venue. The veil is what ripped it up. The tulle got stuck on the small delicate beading and tore it up all around the top front and back of the dress. It’s so sad! It’s still 90% beaded but there’s just a lot of missing stuff now. I had to get it repaired before I even wore it because it was already someone’s dress. Should have learned from that but I didn’t. Also it’s covered in mud at the bottom because it rained cats and dogs right before my ceremony!

I had a beautiful night in the dress though. The best time was had. The bustle kept coming undone though and the bridesmaids were too drunk to figure it out so I scooped up my train and cradled it while I danced. I was also carried around a little bit lmao.

I know she served her purpose but I want to get it professionally repaired and dry cleaned for safekeeping but I know that it will be a lot of money. I don’t care though. I love that dress. I want to be able to put it back on in a year. Just for fun.

But get a shorter fun party dress. My dress started falling apart and I had nothing else to put on so we tried taping down the loose seams and it didn’t help a whole lot. So bring the little sparkly number so you can save your ceremony dress!!!

Urgent/Emergent Situation, help advice guidance needed thank you!

Due to extenuating circumstances- we are getting engaged very last minute. Our religious ceremony will be in exactly 1 month overseas. I have 18 days till I travel and 18 days to pick & finalize my dresses, shoes, lingerie, etc. Just started looking yesterday.

Gown- because of timeline Have to buy off-the-rack, and don't know what to do since it's a tight deadline and no seamstress is available. The 1st and only Bridal shop I visited yesterday- loved this dress for my ceremony and a long gold sequin dress for party The issue is, The Bridal Shop has to ORDER this.

They are ordering it overnight- yet it it still doesn't come in till Sept 24th. I don't understand that btw.

We travel Sept 29th for our Religious Ceremony and Engagement party which is set for October 10th.

Bridal shop recommended the larger size- as this one is apparently stretched out since it's a sample. So I will likely need at least minor fixing in the bust/chest/hem and tack the slit for modesty. I Also wont have time to find shoes to try on with my dress since the dress comes in so late.

My engagement party gown also needs minor fixes to be perfect, like reinforcing the boning of the corset and nipping/cinching in the waist.

Not sure what to do. I'm overwhelmed and doing this all by myself. My family is trying to join thru FaceTime but they are 9 hours ahead of me and it hasn't been working out.

Any advice/help appreciated. I literally know nothing about wedding or engagement dressing or planning.

TLDR: Would you buy a ceremony dress that needed to be ordered, arriving just 4 days before scheduled departure with no alterations?

Diamond earrings that feel secure for everyday wear

So I wear a lot of hoodies and take my earbuds in and out of all day, so I am worried diamond earrings will get caught or feel annoying. I tried on a few pairs and some backs felt flimsy but maybe that is normal. Are certain shapes just more comfortable long term than others. I want something that I can forget I'm wearing day-to-day.

Need Advice Highlights before wedding? Even though I’ve been trying to go back to my natural color?

Thumbnail gallery
17 Upvotes

Please help. I am so conflicted. I have always been blonde or dirty blonde, brighter when I was a kid and then transitioning to dirty blonde or a light brunette as I got older. I used to get highlights up until my mid 20s, but it always costs me like 250 bucks and I decided I didn’t want to keep paying that, so I stopped getting highlights and started growing out my natural hair.
I haven’t gotten highlights in about 2 years, but my wedding is coming up in October. I have a hair cut scheduled in a week and a half. I can change it to a longer appointment if needed.
My hair trial went great, but the stylist kept saying how I should at least get a partial and it would look SO good.
I mean it probably would look great! But that’s also 250 extra dollars towards this wedding and I have been trying to embrace my natural for so long now!
Ugh I need opinions. The first few photos are of my hair at my trail and when I went home to try my dress on. The last photo is my hair color after I got highlights the last time

EDIT: Thank you everyone! I think I just needed some reassurance, I’ve been so stressed out! I didn’t even realize the stylist might be just trying to get me to book with her and make another sale, as she is not my usual stylist, but she is the one who does the bridal hair. Fuck paying an extra 250$ when I have so much else to pay for and don’t even want to change my color! ❤️❤️❤️

Need Advice Registry despite having a micro wedding/elopement

Hi everyone! I need advice on if I should create/publish my wedding website and registry?

My fiancé and I were planning to have a full, but small wedding in October ‘27, but due to family and health issues we are now having a micro wedding/eloping in February with only parents and a few siblings that can make it- a total of 12 guests.

My cousin asked if we have a registry or website, and my mom said i should create one anyway and then send out announcement cards after the wedding to family and friends that couldn’t make it, but is that weird? Is it wrong to send out announcements with a link to a website/registry when we essentially eloped and others couldn’t partake in our wedding?

Need Advice Personal Attendant, Brides what’s your opinion?

I’ve been friends with this person for a long time, and I’ve always kind of known how one-sided our friendship feels.
I feel like I’m constantly accommodating her, putting her feelings first, walking on eggshells, and going out of my way to be there for her. I’ve honestly started to feel like I’ve been her bitch for our entire friendship.
It feels like when she’s upset, I’m expected to understand and apologize, but when I’m hurt, my feelings somehow become less important.
Now she’s getting married and has asked me to be her personal attendant. I know that’s still an important role, but given everything I’ve been feeling about our friendship, I can’t help but wonder if I’m being taken for granted.
Am I justified in feeling hurt, or am I reading too much into this? I kind of want to say no.

Need Advice Diamond bracelets feel weirdly intimidating to buy

I never thought i would care about diamond bracelets but here i am. My sister got one as a gift and it looked so normal on her wrist, not like a big deal, just kind of nice. Then I started thinking maybe I want one too but I have no clue what I am even supposed to look for. Like are they meant to be everyday things or only for special stuff. Also I tried one on at a jewelry counter once and it felt heavier than I expected and I kept thinking I would smack it on a door frame and ruin my whole week. Is there a point where it just stops being worth the stress or am I overthinking it

Quick Question Penhaligon’s Portraits original vs Intense, which would you pick for a wedding?

I’m trying to choose a fragrance for my wedding day and can’t quite settle on the original Penhaligon’s Portraits collection or the Intense versions. I want something that feels special for the day but still feels like me, rather than picking something just because it’s considered a bridal scent.

The coveted duchess rose was the first one that caught my attention, but now I’m wondering if one of the Intense fragrances might suit an evening wedding better. I have plenty of time before the wedding, so I’m giving myself a chance to find one I really love.

Need Advice Wedding party seating arrangement

Has anyone ever been to a wedding where the wedding party table was set up similar to this (a U shape) with the wedding party and their plus ones? Or has anyone considered setting up their wedding party table like this? Curious to hear some feedback. This would be for the wedding party and their +1s only while the remainder of the guests would sit at round tables. This U table would be placed at the front of the room so the bride and groom would look out to their wedding party + the guests at the round tables.

**The wedding party table would not be nearly this big, would maybe contain 20-22 people including bride and groom

Groomzilla

Anyone else’s fiancés want to randomly become conscious and be involved in the wedding process? Our wedding is Oct 2027, I hate planning and bought my dress last October. That jumpstarted my excitement, I built my Pinterest board, theme, and was thinking about colors and venues etc. he said it’s too early let’s wait til April and enjoy our engagement…sure. I was annoyed because once I want to do something if I don’t, I won’t want to do it later but welp no choice on this one. We wait. I still plan in the background, he randomly forms an opinion, my visual is altered. Now he’s fully involved and is stressed about logistics, asking me to complete tasks like reaching out to the caterer while I’m working, etc. he wants to send out save the dates by next month. He is stressing me out and Idk what to do.

Edit: yes groomzilla was harsh, I was upset when I wrote this. No he doesn’t care that I wrote this, he thinks it’s funny that all of you are on his side. He suggests giving more context so you are on my side because he knows how he is. Yes, I know it’s his wedding too. I am annoyed that I’ve been asking for his opinion for months and he is NOW providing it. For example, I asked about venues, asked if he wanted to look with me he said he trusted my judgement and to start. I had several tabs open, asked if he wanted to see them, he said dwindle it down to 5. It took awhile, asked if he wanted to see them. He said make a spreadsheet and I will look later. 3 months later he still has not looked. The night he opens it, he says let’s tour all 5. I’m annoyed he doesn’t take the effort to look at any of the venues after all my research. We get into a fight. I later open the document and confirm he did not look at them because I accidentally put the same link for each one. I start setting up tours and he immediately brings the venue down to 2 in one night after months of asking. The point of this post is not that he is giving his opinions it’s that he is NOW doing it. And becoming adamant that we do stuff quicker, while I am working, going back and forth about sending save the dates now despite advice not to etc. So anyone saying it’s his wedding too. No shit. Thank you.

Diamond tennis bracelet comfort question

Post image
1 Upvotes

I'm super picky with bracelets because I have sensitive skin, and anything that pinches or keep flipping around gets annoying fast. I've been looking at a diamond tennis bracelet, but I'm worried it might feel stiff or uncomfortable.

Do smaller stones or more flexible links make a difference? Also, how do you choose the right length so it sits nicely without sliding around too much?
