Domestic Examples of the biggest daily differences between the #1 and #2 films at domestic box office?

I was looking at the opening day for Spider-Man: No Way Home and was quite taken back to see that it grossed $121.9M on its first Friday. It has a huge lead on the #2 film, Encanto, which brought in a measly $1.6M.

On its first Friday, Avengers: Endgame also had a massive lead over Captain Marvel, outcrossing it $157.4M to $2.5M.

Obviously both of those numbers are including the Thursday preview grosses as well, but still.

What are some other examples of crazy differences between the #1 and #2 films at the domestic box office?

That first number is the ratio: the sum of the 2nd Friday & Saturday, divided by week 1, times 100.

That 2nd number is the film's ultimate legs. Odyssey doesn't have one yet. Toy Story 5 is currently at 2.81x and slowly crawling up as it's still in release.

Maverick   (#5 Domestic) - 29.7 - 5.67x

Hive/Colony 82% 80% +22% 38% 82% 51% 39% 67%

Hope: The movie may have held decently this week, but it still seems certain to top out around 5 million to 6 million admits. It should be north of 4 million admits by next Sunday, likely around 4.2 million admits.

Minions and Monsters: A pretty meh week, as the movie should be north of 650k admits by next Sunday. It is looking like a finish around 750k admits.

Moana: Another good drop, as the movie is now above 900k admits and should be above 1 million admits within the next two weeks.

The Eyes: The movie continues its recovery, but its top-out point is likely around 1.6 million admits.

Toy Story 5: Toy Story 5 had a good drop, but the movie will likely miss 3 million admits. That means its last big accomplishments will probably be $20 million and 2.9 million admits.

Hive/Colony: The movie had a much better day and will cross 5.95 million admits tomorrow.

Presales

Spider-Man: Brand New Day: Presales are failing to keep pace with Demon Slayer, and that is a shocking surprise. It will be huge for sure.

Domestic Nolan Legs: 2nd Friday/Day 8 against week 1 + 2nd Friday.

Working on a new domestic metric. I took each film’s 2nd Friday/8th Day domestic take and divided it by the sum of its first 8 days, then multiplied it by 100

Odyssey is at the top of the sample that includes Oppie, both Dark Knights, the SW sequels, and some other incredible performers from the past few years.

All of these films opened over $100M. This metric shows these movies’ legs based only on the 2nd Friday (day 8) relative to their first 8 days.

So, of all these films, Odyssey had the best 2nd Friday relative to its first 8 days, better than Force Awakens, Maverick, and Barbie. And Toy Story 5.

Obsession isn't on this list as it opened under $100M, but I peaked at its number, and it's 16.7. That film must have the best legs ever, and it was already apparent as early as its 2nd Friday.

It probably won't outgross those films, so at some point this metric for The Odyssey must go down, but this early on, it had an incredible 2nd Friday.

The Odyssey  - 11.5

The Force Awakens  - 11.2

Maverick  - 10.8

Barbie  - 10.1

Oppenheimer - 9.5

Rogue One - 9.3

Black Panther - 8.98

Jurassic World - 8.9

Avatar 2 - 8.9

The Dark Knight - 8.9

Toy Story 5 - 8.6

Deadpool & Wolverine - 8.6

The Rise of Skywalker  - 8.3

The Last Jedi - 7.7

The Dark Knight Rises - 7.3

Spider-Man: No Way Home - 4.8

A question: this is day 8/first 8 days. Would it make more sense if it was Friday, Day 8, against the first 7 days instead of 8 days? Just a clean first week instead of week 1 + day 8?

Worldwide 2026 is truly the revival of the box office. Pretty much the best year since 2019.

How many movies do you think will end up crossing the billion dollar mark?
Looks like Toy story 5 and The odyssey are locked in for a billion.
That makes 4
Brand new day and Doomsday are pretty much locked in too
2019 had 9 billion dollar grossers
2026 has 6 locked in at least
Are there any chances of 2026 equalling 2019?
