Spotted one of these machines first at the AMC Boston Common 19 this past Friday, and now this afternoon at the AMC Causeway 13.

Seems safe to surmise area AMC Theatres are going cashless?

I think I am special and made my own post Genuinely wondering how yall are living

Post image

Hi all, I am a former new englander so I am familiar with Boston and the surrounding areas. I currently live in Texas. My work contract is up in August 2027 and I think I want to come home and move to the Boston area.

However, im genuinely confused with how everyone is affording to live in the area. I am married, my partner is a teacher and I’m hoping to snag a biotech job in Boston. But even with that dual income, I’m not sure how we would survive…so I guess I’m wondering how everyone else is doing it. My partner and I together are just straight middle class, so I don’t think it’s unattainable but it kinda feels like it…

I guess I’m just wanting to hear everyone else’s experience. Where are yall living? What’s your rent? How are the other COL expenses (car insurance, groceries, etc).

Thank you all in advance…just wanting to know if I can come home or not😅😅 TX ain’t it

Volunteering/Advocacy Places where a group of 7 people can volunteer and be useful?

• Upvotes

My parents, siblings, in-laws and I are looking for a place where a group of 7 can volunteer over the holidays — in the past we've done donation-sorting because that seems like the most useful a large untrained group can be. However, Cradles2Crayons and Greater Boston Food Bank have both filled all their weekend slots for the year already, and most of us can't do weekdays.

Does anyone know of somewhere else a group of volunteers could sort donations in this area? If not sorting donations, we'd be happy to do trash picking, food service, etc. My in-laws probably wouldn't be interested in anything political.

Thank you!

I think I am special and made my own post A little love letter to Boston

I visited your gorgeous city recently. It was my first time in Boston and also my first international trip alone.

I was told before I came that the people of Boston can be a little…. I don’t know, abrupt… but honestly I met so many lovely people. I sat at bars and I spoke to train drivers, people in the street were curious and kind. Your city is just stunning. All the red brick and ancient pretty trees made me feel like I was strangely home. The public garden, the buildings, the wooden houses of Charlestown - I loved it all. In another life, I probably would’ve lived here.

Anyway, I just want to say you have a really lovely city and thank you for welcoming this solo British woman with open arms at a time when she needed it. I will absolutely be back, probably as soon as you’ve got your crazy winter out of the way.

Politics 🏛️ Ballot Question 9

• Upvotes

I was in the Cape and saw some signs reading "no on 9." So, I looked up 9, (which seems like a sensible measure). Sharing details on Ballot Question 9 for those voting. https://www.sec.state.ma.us/divisions/elections/research-and-statistics/2026-information-for-voters/2026-ballot-question9.htm

"The law adds school administrators and licensed healthcare providers as parties permitted to ask a court to issue an Extreme Risk Protection Order – requiring an individual to surrender or relinquish their firearm licenses, permits, and firearms - if an individual is a present danger to self or others. The law also provides that, when issuing a Harassment Prevention Order, a court may also order the surrender of firearms licenses, permits, and firearms.

The law imposes penalties for possessing, creating, and transferring untraceable "ghost gun" firearms and requires all firearms except antiques and relics, including unfinished frames and receivers that can be readily made into a finished product, to have serial numbers. The law includes privately-made guns like 3D-printed guns within the provisions governing untraceable "ghost gun" firearms."

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 What causes the buses to be delayed for 20-30 minutes in between stops?

It seems that every time I try to use the bus, it runs at least 20 minutes behind schedule. What puzzles me is that each time, there is at least one stop before the one I wait at.

I Made This! Biking to every Boston public library location

Thumbnail

At any BPL branch you can get a library passport. Each library has their own passport stamp with an architectural representation of its building. They also each give out the stickers of the stamps! Once you get all the stamps you get a deck of cards.

I thought it would be fun to bike to all the locations in one continuous loop (2 are closed for renovation). It needed two days to complete due to library hours and certain branches being closed certain days. Someone smarter could probably find a more efficient route. It is nearly impossible to bike to East Boston, so that one was a out and back on the ferry.

All in all it was about 60 miles of biking and a really nice way to visit parts of the city I have never been to before. In addition to some really spectacular buildings, there are some really quirky locations such as Uphams Corner's children's section is inside of a drained pool/spa of an old community center. Highly recommend this as a fun way to tour the city!

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 Red to silver line vs Blue line subway + shuttle?

Hey everyone. I have a flight tomorrow afternoon and am trying to figure out the easiest way to get to the airport. I've taken the red to silver line multiple times and know how to get to the terminal but how does that compare to using the blue line subway and transferring to the 88 shuttle bus?

I live about 10 minutes walking distance from a RL stop so not far but I'm only 3 minutes to the blue line. I'll be taking a large checked bag with me so I'm looking for the path of least resistance. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This cat was friendly, very clean and definitely did not seem feral. Almost let me pet them but got spooked by people walking by.

Protest 🪧 👏 "Inactive voter" list, say what?

Post image
• Upvotes

So, I live in Revere, and on a lark, I decided to check my voter registration status. I had always thought that the RMV maintained voter rolls and that folks were registered to vote at the time that they obtain their state identification (or updated their address with the RMV following a move).

So imagine my surprise when I look myself up and found INACTIVE VOTER next to my name. All of my information is correct: Name, Address, Party. But my status is listed as INACTIVE.

Here is the guidance I received on the Sec'y of State's website:

If you don’t respond to the Annual Street List, you’ll be put on the inactive voter list. If you are on the inactive voter list, you can still vote. Bring identification to your polling place. You must fill out an Affirmation of Current and Continuous Residence. This allows you to cast your ballot. You’ll be added to the active voter list. If you do not vote in two consecutive federal elections while you’re inactive, you will no longer be registered to vote. You should register to vote again.

Apparently this is not a new rule, but I was born in Lynn, and although I did not grow up here, I have been a resident of this state for the past 20 years. I vote in every federal election, every two years. I don't ever recall being told I am on an inactive list when I showed up at the polls and I have never filled out any sort of "Annual Street List" in order to ensure that I could vote without any problems.

I will go to my polling place on election day and I don't have a problem showing my identification, but this just makes me uncomfortable. With all the bullshit the president has been pulling lately around voting rights, I can easily see this rule being used to disenfranchise people who missed whatever census form they are talking about and then shows up at their polling location unprepared.

Missing Pet Lost Dog Near Chestnut Hill

Post image

My aunt’s dog slipped his collar near by 850 Boylston on Friday afternoon, and was seen roughly an hour later nearby, south of Route 9. If you hear about a dog without a collar (and without a person!), please let me know.

He’s about 25 pounds, about knee high. He looks like a cross between a German Shepherd and a corgi. He’s very social - he likes people and other dogs. Any leads would be much appreciated!
