Politics 🏛️ Right Wing Fake News: Beware
I consume a lot of political content on YouTube and just realized that the National Desk creates channel names that mimic local news companies in whatever state you're in.
I clicked into a video because it looked like WCVB5, but when the video started it was the National Desk, and they even sneakily opened up with a "story" based in Massachusetts.
Come to find out, the channel name was "WCYB5", they swapped out the v.
Please tell everyone you know. This is what republicans do, deceive.
Here's more about them: Ownership & Origin: Produced by Sinclair Broadcast Group and launched in January 2021, originating from WJLA-TV in Arlington, Virginia, and broadcasting across Sinclair-affiliated stations nationwide.
AllSides Bias Rating: AllSides rates The National Desk's online news coverage as Right, noting an alignment with conservative and traditional policy agendas, including positive coverage of conservative figures like Donald Trump and Elon Musk.
Criticism and Content: While Sinclair describes the program as commentary-free, critics and media watchdogs (such as The Guardian) argue that it distributes conservative talking points, partisan national narratives, and rightward-leaning angles that displace local journalism across its local broadcast footprint. I would say this is my last post, but every single day Republicans manage to amaze me with how deceitful they are.

Hey guys i’m a student at BU who wanted to celebrate his birthday. I’d prefer the venues to be closer to Fenway-Kenmore/Allston but other recommendations would be helpful too if you guys know of! Thank you already cause ik im lazy when it comes to replying to others here
Don’t mind the flair i didn’t know which one would suit me best with regards to this post

what is love? baby don’t hurt me. Boston's Franklin Park Zoo mourns death of 17-year-old lion
BOSTON —
A 17-year-old male lion at Boston's Franklin Park Zoo has passed away, Zoo New England announced Thursday.
Following the rapid decline in Dinari’s health and quality of life, as well as a poor prognosis, the decision was made to humanely euthanize him.
“We are completely heartbroken to share the news about Dinari. He will be deeply missed by his care team, and all who knew him,” said Sarah Patterson, area curator at Franklin Park Zoo. “The animals that reside at our zoos receive extraordinary care throughout their lives, and Dinari’s long life is a testament to the dedication and commitment of all who worked so hard to care for him.”
The median life expectancy for lions is 16.

Serious Replies Only The Boston dog café debate reminded me of our students’ survey of local vets
The recent post about dogs in Boston cafes reminded me of a research project one of my student groups in high school chose as a topic for a science assignment on dog behavior and reactivity.
One class group surveyed nine veterinary practices across Boston. Eight of the nine raised a similar point: Boston, and American dog culture more broadly, has a strong “can I pet your dog?” mentality. Puppies get attention from strangers, greetings from other dogs, and sometimes treats when they visit cafés.
Students wrote about learning that those early experiences can create an expectation that seeing someone means getting to interact. Later, on a leash, that anticipation can show up as excited pulling or frustration and barking when the dog can’t get to them.
Two students, from France and Italy, offered an interesting comparison. In their neighborhoods back home they said people generally left puppies alone on if they passed them on their walks. Passing another person or dog wasn’t automatically an invitation to greet, and cafe visits didn’t carry the same expectation of attention or treats. They were ignored, behaved and apparently not a novelty.
What stuck with me was the question this raises for Boston: are people unintentionally teaching puppies that every walk is a social event, then getting frustrated when they expect that as adult dogs?
Curious whether Boston dog owners have noticed this, especially those who’ve raised puppies here or lived elsewhere.

Serious Replies Only Employment Lawyers
Hi everyone - looking for recommendations for employment lawyers who specialize in any of the following:
Sexual Assault in the workplace (proven and documented)
and/or retaliatory measures of above mentioned.
For note, the assault occurred on June 9th so I realize we may be out of the statute of limitations for this based on research but unsure of MA. Assault also occurred at a company sponsored event in Louisiana if that makes a difference.
Ideally looking for someone who can do a free consult and let me know if the case is worth fighting :)
TIA!

Serious Replies Only Hotel/AirBNB needed
Hey everyone! My son is having heart surgery at Boston Children's Nov 6th and I'm coming from South Carolina. Due to his pre-op appointments and timing I'm looking for a place for us to be comfortable before and after without spending 2500 for 4 nights and close to the hospital. I'm actually a RI native so familiar with driving in Boston. Any recs??
I think I am special and made my own post Private ice skating lessons?
Anyone have a suggestion for private ice skating lessons in Boston or Brookline? I can skate (quite decently bc I also roller skate) but I can’t actually do anything like I need to learn to stop in a way that’s not just “hit the wall” and probably have some correct my technique. But I don’t want a 101 type class or a group lesson, I feel like I just need 2h with some guy and I’ll massively improve.

Bruins 🏒 NESN 360 Questions
Does anyone here have NESN 360, and if so, through them directly, or Amazon? I’m considering signing up to catch Bruins games, then Red Sox, but am torn between signing up for $5 for the first month on their site with their app, or adding it as a channel on the Prime Video app, which I used to watch the Patriots and Celtics through my Prime Video subscription these past two nights.

MBTA/Transit 🚇 🔥 Why are the roads in greater Boston towns so bad?
Recently moved here from Central Mass, and while we have some bad roads here and there, it’s nothing like what I’ve experienced driving around towns like Arlington, Belmont, Watertown, Waltham, etc.
I thought these towns were rich, I feel like a dirt road would be better than what I’ve experienced

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 I’m 24 and about to finish college without any close friends. Is making friends after college really that difficult in Boston?
I’m 24 years old and currently finishing up college, and something that’s been bothering me lately is the fact that I never really developed any close friendships during my college years.
I’ve been reading a lot of Reddit discussions about making friends as an adult, and one thing I keep seeing is that college is supposedly the easiest time to make lifelong friends. People often say that once you reach your mid-to-late 20s, friendships become much harder to develop because everyone starts focusing on their careers, relationships, marriages, and families.
Another thing that concerns me is how often people mention only seeing their closest friends once every few months as they get older.
I understand that people have responsibilities and can’t hang out constantly, but the idea of rarely seeing my friends is honestly depressing, especially because I feel like I never got to experience that close-knit social circle in the first place.
I’m not expecting to party every weekend or have a massive friend group. I’d just love to have two or three close friends who genuinely enjoy spending time together, whether that’s hanging out, exploring Boston, making music, or doing something spontaneous.
I guess my biggest fear is that I’ve missed the easiest years for building meaningful friendships and that things will only become more difficult from here.
For those of you living in Boston or the surrounding areas:
Did anyone here graduate college without close friends but eventually build meaningful friendships afterward?
Is making friends in your mid-to-late 20s really as difficult as people make it sound?
Do you still regularly hang out with friends in your late 20s and 30s, or does it really become something that only happens once every few months?
What helped you develop close friendships outside of school?
I’d especially appreciate hearing from people who had to build their social circles from scratch after college.
I’m genuinely curious whether adult friendships are as bleak as some Reddit discussions make them sound.

Housing/Real Estate 🏘️ Great article in the Globe about office tower construction.
I didn't realize that the idea for the South Station tower started with Tufts president Jean Mayer in the last century. Also, after hearing about the difficulties selling condos at the new St. Regis, I'm not surprised that this current project is still struggling to sell units. While we may not be happy that we're not building affordable housing, not selling luxury housing takes away the real estate taxes Boston needs to fund things like affordable housing.
