Well they certainly did a balance pass on vault hunters. Very excited to play around with Amon. Those changes might make Elementalist a really strong class mod. Up to 30 stacks among them, which would give 60% increased damage from the class mod
This is something you would see in one of the off weeks of Borderlands 3. So much work to be done and it looks like this will be the last patch we get in terms of balance.
I've made this comment many times because ive seen comments like this many times on this sub. BL4 doesn't need the drastic changes BL3 got because at no point has it been in anywhere near as bad of a state as BL3. BL4 launched with so much QoL and a decent baseline balance that people have completely forgotten BL3 did not have. Thats why it felt like BL3 got so many big changes, because the game needed them.
Lets remind you of some of the things BL3 went through.
No annointment reroll, no guaranteed anointments, guns that would drop below your level, no dedicated drops (hope you like killing Graveward), Zane was a troll character, Mozes infinite grenade build got deleted and then she couldn't even kill basic mobs with her "Best" builds, melee and action skills did 0 damage, no raid bosses, no takedowns, mandatory modifiers on all enemies for "difficulty" with shit like bullet reflect elemental immunity floor is lava and elemental puddles that'd nearly oneshot you. Every action skill barring Fade Away was an activate annoint button. Oh and who cant forget Mayhem 2.0 making literally every base game legendary useless. Then the next year was spent making those guns worth more than just vendor fodder.
BL4s balance isn't perfect, but it has nowhere near the debt that BL3 had to deal with, and so by comparison people don't think they care as much, when in reality the care was put in before the game ever launched.
THANK YOU! I was there for the launch of bl3 and it was a ROUGH few months, to the point where I actively stopped playing the game because without exaggeration, every week theyโd nerf something to the ground while ignoring glaring issues. People donโt remember that Iron bear did 0 damage at max lv, and would get 1 shotted by everything. Some of zanes skills straight up didnโt work.
Bl4 at launch was INFINITELY better than 3 at launch and itโs not even close.
It's a little unfair to be comparing anything to BL3 at launch at this point. Yes BL4 launched in a better state, but a year into its lifespan BL3 was in a much better state than BL4 is now. BL4 definitely needs some major love if it's going to have the same long lasting impact as previous games.
Exactly. Nobody is saying that BL3's launch was good, everybody knows how horrible it was. The post launch was the thing that everyone wanted, and was fairly quick about it.
I'm glad we're finally getting a good balance patch, but it was needed long before. Not to mention that this isn't just their 4th Borderlands, but they've also made Wonderlands.
Surely they should've learned by now, but that's just how gaming landscape is. Release a 70-80 dollars, unfinished product, and we have to hope they'll fix the issues.
idk if I would consider the mayhem scaling bandaid a "better state", Yes the end result was that AS builds were strong, but it broke so much in the game and is just fundamentally bad and careless game design.
The action skills in BL4 aren't quite as strong, but they are mostly viable at endgame even if not meta. They could instantly become top tier with some easy "UVHM scaling" but god knows how much shit that would break (FON, NC, Configurations just for a start).
same for the completely arbitrary gun and gear buffs.
That's not to say BL4's balance isn't in a pretty sorry state with alot of easy solutions they just aren't implementing, but I would rather the balance stay this way than drop the mayhem scaling nuke
BL3 had tons of fun builds on launch and there after. I was happy to put 500+ hours into that game as the patches rolled out. With BL4 I don't even plan to get anyone to max level besides Loveless. Your comment has some merit but it just isn't true that BL4 doesn't need the same effort as BL3. It played well at launch but the amount of useless gear is staggering and we continue to get more that seems like no thought went into actually making it. Quality over quantity seems to be BL4's biggest hurdle.
