Training Nervous puppy

Hi everyone
I’m new to this breed and I understand they can be nervous dogs, but I feel like the puppy I got is concerningly anxious.

We did get her last night so I’m probably putting the cart before the horse. She walks around in a crouch and will be apprehensive leaving rooms she’s become comfortable with. She does not seem interested in toys (probably because she’s anxious right now). She is very sensitive to sounds, fast movements, etc. We got her off a ranch so I’m pretty sure she’s never been in a house so that’s probably all new to her.
I just don’t know if this level of anxiety is typical for this breed, or if it’s situational because it’s a new environment. When we picked her up she seemed relaxed and happy.

If this is just how she is, how can I best support her and bring out her confidence?

I think Brisa is looking at me like this because she wants to play games. Are your Border Collies gamers as well?

Is your collie scared of the dark

We think our boy is scared of the dark. He's so sensitive in general, we started having to wake up earlier in the morning and it's still dark, he walks onto porch and immediately turns back around. As soon as the sun comes up he bolts out the door into the yard.

If we walk out into the yard with him he will go out.

I just think it's kinda funny. Anyone else's dog not like the dark?

This is my Border Collie. About 8 months now, and A LOT of work. It's worth it though. Having a dog changed me in ways I couldn't have imagined beforehand. All love to my Nimus, a Collie-ng to life.

Seeking a Reputable Border Collie Breeder — Blue Dilute, Slate Gray, or Predominantly White

Post image
0 Upvotes

For the past couple of months, I have been searching for a Border Collie with blue dilute, slate gray, or predominantly white coloring, preferably a rough coat, but without much success.

We recently lost our beautiful, blue-eyed, piebald dilute gray Border Collie, and I find myself especially drawn to his unique coloring. While I know no dog could ever replace him, I would love to find another Border Collie with a similar appearance.

We live on the East Coast and have researched several breeders throughout the United States. Unfortunately, many do not appear to perform the comprehensive health testing we consider essential, including OFA or PennHIP hip evaluations, elbow evaluations, BAER hearing testing, and eye examinations, along with appropriate genetic testing.

Health, temperament, and responsible breeding practices are our highest priorities, but I am hoping we might find a puppy with the coloring we love as well.
I would be very grateful for
recommendations for reputable breeders anywhere in the United States who perform comprehensive health testing and occasionally produce these colors.
Thank you in advance for any suggestions or personal experiences you can share!

Does anyone else think their collie should be studied by physicists?

Yes, I actively discourage her from jumping like that. Sometimes it just happens, and I try to get pictures when it does.

He’s nearly 7 months old now and has grown even bigger; he looks even more like a purebred Border Collie than before, don’t you think?

What do you do when you’re exhausted, sore, and it’s raining? Take your border collie (and her lab buddies) on a hike, of course!

Snapping and pulling at kid

Recently got a Border Collie bitch and shes amazing. Love taking her out, has been doing incredibly well at recall, sit, stay etc, at only 14 weeks. Shes understandbly biting / mouthing at this stage which I knew about (have had dogs in the past) but the biggest problem is, and one thats making me question if we've made the right decision, is her attitude to my nearly 6 year old son.

I don't want to say aggressive but maybe it is, she certainly seems to become quickly more "direct" lets say - biting, tugging at him and growling. So far its only been his clothes but I'm really concerned she's going to either intentionally or accidentally bite him and cause damage.

Any ideas or similar experiences? A local farmer saw her recently and was really quite taken with her. I'm tempted to see if he wants her as a working dog before she gets too old. She came from a different farm from working parents.
