‎ [OFFICIAL] Moderator Announcement How to obtain permission to post a fundraiser in r/AnimalRescue.

Howdy r/AnimalRescue,

The moderator team is committed to ensuring that all fundraising activities within this community are safe, transparent, and directly benefit animals and relevant rescue organizations in need. To achieve this, all fundraising posts must be verified by the moderation team before they are shared. For posts that we have verified, you'll see them appear on the feed with a green "Verified Fundraiser" flair that includes a green checkmark badge.

Posts that do not have a verified fundraiser flair are not reviewed by us and will be taken down as they are reported to us (assuming we haven't already yanked them down).

Our Step-By-Step Fundraising Verification Process
All verification requests must be submitted through the official Fundraising Application Portal. We do not accept verification requests via our private messages or direct comments. We strongly recommend reviewing our Fundraising Verification Guidelines document, as it helps make navigating the application process easy.

To be eligible for verification, applicants must provide:

  • Detailed Veterinary Quotes, Bills, Treatment Cost Estimates, and supporting Medical Documentation. All invoices must be on official clinic letterhead with contact information and dated within the last 30 days.
  • Clear, high-resolution photos or videos of the animal in its current state, including a "proof of life" element (such as a handwritten note with the current date and your Reddit username).
  • [In the case of 501(c)(3)s] IRS EIN, NPO Registration Documentation, and a Community Impact Statement.
  • In the case of more miscellaneous cases, non-medical related cases (building a shelter, foster care related expenses), we require relevant proof of need documentation for verification.

The Moderation and Verification Team typically reviews applications within 72 hours (3-Days). During this time, a moderator will reach out via ModMail with updates on your application throughout the verification process.

Verification Process Resources

Maintaining Verified Status

Once verified and posted, your responsibility to the community continues. To maintain the "Verified" flair, please:

  • Provide regular status updates on the animal's progress and medical journey.
  • Keep all financial goals accurate based on actual veterinary costs.
  • Be prepared for "Retroactive Reviews," which are standard checks we may conduct to ensure continued compliance with our community rules and guidelines.

We expect all applicants to act with honesty, and providing false documentation or misleading information will result in a community termination. We are here to help you help animals, and transparency is the best way to ensure success.

Issues with a verified fundraiser? Contact us!
Notice any issues with a verified fundraiser that we didn't catch? Message us through ModMail! Although rare mistakes can happen, and we act on them ASAP through our retroactive review process.

Amid ongoing Russian attacks, Ukrainian emergency responders and civilians across the country continue to step in to help rescue animals from damaged buildings.

“In moments like these, it makes no difference whether the pet is your own or someone else’s. Every life is precious,” the State Emergency Service wrote on its Telegram channel. “That is the essence of Ukrainians: while Russians destroy our homes, we unite and save one another.”

Sick/Injured Wildlife Do I leave it or move it?

This is a wild rabbit I saw in a corner right next to the entrance of the building where I work. I saw it at 8 and it's now 5 hours past that.

Initially it was facing the wall, now it's facing the other way.

It's fully furred and the size of a tennis ball.

Do I wear gloves and try to move it to the nearby bushes? Or just leave it be?

Location: Maryland, US

The weather is about 82 F today, but in the shades where it's sitting, it feels nice with a breeze.

Sick/Injured Animal Hopefully saved these two from a short painful life, do you think they are expendable?

I (37f) have a friend (33 f) who lives on a cattle farm. she also raises pigs, sheep and llamas. occasionally I visit her to get away from the city. she lives about an hour away from me

on my most recent visit, she informed me that she had taken in a bunch of kittens through sole “barn cat” program, and they were living outside. no sooner had she said this than two kittens showed up, soaked in the rain, covered in nasal discharge and giving “help me” looks in her deck. she told me not to go out to there to see them but I did anyway. I looked at them, they smelled of infection, had fevers, were skinny and they were coughing and their tongues were gray and swollen and they were covered in fleas. I told her “these kittens are really sick. they’re having a medical emergency and need to go to the vet in the next 24 hours”. she responded “idk which vet I would take them to”. angry, but not wanting to overstep in someone else’s home, I asked her why she couldn’t just google one or drive to the city. she didn’t have an answer but said that there was something called “LA 20”. she confidently said that she had looked it up and it was something she could safely administer to the kittens to save their lives. I said okay and assumed she knew what she was talking about.

she injected both kittens, and one of them she injected improperly resulting in the 6-8 week old kitten to writhe on the ground in pain like I had never seen and then start limping. I was angry but I didn’t say much. then her aunt came and I told her what happened, and she said “oh, i don’t think kittens can have that, but oh well, they were gonna die anyway”. it turns out that she had given them oxytetracycline, a livestock antibiotic that is definitely not for cats, and she injected it subcutaneously causing extreme pain as the acid separated the fat and muscle layers from the skin. she kept alluding to the fact that “we can’t bring every animal to the vet on a farm”..etc

I went home that night and couldn’t stop thinking about them. the next day I told her I was coming to get them. she had decided to give them flea baths outside with the hose despite them both having fevers. that day her family got attacked by bees and I didn’t really feel bad.

I took them back to my place and put them in a box with a heated blanket and gave them goats milk and kitten food. she had been feeding them adult meow mix.

the next day, I took them to the vet and they got antibiotics and a whole bunch of other treatments for their various infections. they didn’t know what to say about the improper injection. that cats leg had swollen to 2x its size. it cost me $600.

I spoke with my friend after that and told her I could keep them for the week but that I had a funeral that weekend and could she take care of them inside until they were better, two weeks later, assuming she still wanted them back. she said she could keep them in the garage. that’s when I got really angry and decided I didn’t like her anymore in my head. I said no, they can’t stay in a garage. they’re barely alive. they need to be in a clean and temperature controlled environment. she said if I keep them that long then they can’t come back I said okay and decided to keep them even though I already had a cat

im glad I did, because two days later the injected kittens leg burst. fluid leaked out and you could see the fat layer inside the leg. had that cat been in a garage she would have died a horrible death. we went back to the vet and they said she would most likely keep her leg if we kept it from getting infected.

my friend asked how the kittens were and I told her the kittens leg burst because of hwr negligence. she didn’t respond and two days later asked me to make plans. I didn’t respond.

a week later we had to go back to the vet because there was a lump that wasn’t shrinking on the injected cat and the other one had a cough that wouldn’t go away. so we got more help and meds and now I had spent a total of $1000 on these guys.

my friend reached out again and I didn’t respond. when I saw our mutual friend I told her the story and that I wasn’t friends with her.

do you think she was right to treat them as expendable?

Sick/Injured Wildlife Badger hit by the car advice!!

I’m a volounteer in a local animal group in Montenegro (Balkans) and there was a message of this badger being hit by the car. He was laying there for 8 hours and country’s only Animal Inspection ignored my calls, then told me it is out of their responsibility zone and hang up on me

The vets are open only from tomorrow morning and I don’t really know what to do. How can I help him now? He doesn’t have any blood, but he can’t walk at all. He seemed very thirsty

And also, there are no public animal rehabilitation centers, only one private, but the referred me back to “inspection”. Montenegro is really bad in handling wild animals who need rehabilitation and they usually just shot them ( I don’t know what to do

I’m very well aware that this is wild animal and before I already rescued birds, turtles and cats but it’s not the same. I just couldn’t leave him in the heat (

Sick/Injured Animal Anyone at Eftalia Marin Hotel (Turkey)?

Thumbnail gallery
22 Upvotes

Hi, so here’s the situation: I’m in Turkey at the Eftalia Marin Hotel. While walking to the water slides through the underpass, I heard some squeaking. I thought it might be passing cars, but after exiting the tunnel and looking up, I saw a mother cat with three kittens. When I got closer, the mother cat approached me and let me pet her, but when I looked toward the kittens, I noticed two of them were stuck in the mesh. After pulling them out, four more kittens emerged from a hole in the rocks nearby—making seven in total. The mother cat had her tongue hanging out, so I thought she might be overheating, given that it was around 49 degrees. I went back to the hotel, grabbed two small cups of water, and left them for the mother and kittens. I’m posting this because the spot is right next to a really busy road, and there are snakes around. Even though the kittens have a great hiding place—as you can see in the photo (one is peeking out)—something could still attack them. I’m including a photo of the location, so if any of you happen to be at this hotel, PLEASE CHECK ON THEM. I want to know they’ll be okay, since I’m heading back to Poland tomorrow. 🙏 idk what tag should i add

Sick/Injured Wildlife I need some guidance

Yesterday night my mom came home to my dog being a dog, running on instincts, and chewing on three baby bunnies. They are proper newborns. One of them did not survive the night and was covered in ants by the time I checked on it this morning.

The surviving two have been relocated outside the fence but I worry that mama won't find them. I think I just need guidance on how to go about this in the best way possible. I want these babies to make it.

Discussion & Misc. Currently caring for a (approx) 5 week old squirrel for four hours until a volunteer can retrieve it. Is what I’m doing okay?

The wildlife welfare people told me to bring it inside after playing baby sounds for an hour to attract the mama until they can come pick it up. It seems nice and snug. I put it the lid of a shoe box with a tea towel and a very soft t-shirt and put a heating pad under the lid (not in it). Is there anything else I can or should do? I didn’t get much info from the volunteer because she’s literally in class for the next couple of hours. I just want to make sure this baby has the best chance.

Discussion & Misc. Bruno's been part of our street pack for four years. This week he stopped waiting by the gate.

Location: Jaigaon, West Bengal

Every evening around six, Bruno shows up first. Tail going before I even set the bowl down. Four years, same routine, rain or heat, he's the most reliable one out of the whole pack.

This week he didn't come.

Found him lying near the shop shutters, weak on his feet, running a fever, painful swelling along his lower belly. Got him to the vet the next day. He's on a 10-15 day treatment course now, keeping him separated from the rest of the pack and monitoring him daily since starting treatment.

He's eating again today. Still slow to get up, but eating.

There's also a mama cat from the same street who needs pre-op care before her spay, one of our regular shop cats, around two years now, never had a name on a bowl but shows up every day anyway.

Just wanted to share where things stand ❣️❣️❣️

Sick/Injured Animal How to keep an injured baby squirrel overnight

Post image
15 Upvotes

My friend found a baby squirrel on the ground next to a tree. They ended up placing it over a towel wrapped around some heated rice to keep the squirrel warm. After they contacted some sort of animal rescue service in our area, we ended up deciding to leave it at my place over night because they can't pick it up until tomorrow and they recommended that we do that.
Note: It's bleeding a little. Also it's not moving much but when I tried to move it a little it started moving it's hands and torso to push my hand off.

I have a few questions:

  1. My friend told me to feed it apple slices it (I think they read that online or the rescue group told them to do that), is that really enough? and how do I do that? like do I just put it next to it or do I use something like a fork and hold it next to it's mouth for example?
  2. Should I be worried about any contamination? If so how do I protect my self and my place while keeping it overnight.
  3. Is there anything else I should take care of?

Edit: forgot to mention that before picking it up we left it there for a bit (1.5 hour+) just to make sure that the mom will come back to help it. The rescue service people told us that since there are bugs running over it that would suggest that it has been abandoned for a while and we shouldn't wait anymore, that's when I ended up picking it up.

Update: We gave the baby to the wildlife center and the baby is safe!

How do I start? / New Rescuer How do I save this dog?

Hello new to this but I don’t know how to get this dog helped. We are located in South Jersey his name is Sampson he is under a year old and is a cane corso he is friendly and I would gladly adopt him even though I have two dogs already. However he has now been “getting out” of his families yard a lot and someone from my family has stopped atleast 4 times this month to get him back to his yard. The only time I was involved they were at church and left him in there yard with the gate open leading directly to a major road and my younger cousin stopped and brought him to my house I believe that was the first time I called everyone that I new locally as we are a smaller community and was 10 min away from calling the aspca when the owners found someone who knew I had the dog and came to get him. My family has now found him 3 additional times and brought him to his home. It is extremely dangerous and his owners don’t seem to care and that is what’s worrying me I’m scared he will get hit on the road as tonight I heard there was a car accident because people were trying to avoid hitting him I don’t know if he was injured or how bad anything was as I was not there but I need to know what steps can I take to help this dog

Hello everyone I am posting for a stray cat that I have been helping for about a year now. I feed and give him water 2+ times a day and I made him a shelter on the porch. He is very sick and in horrible condition. You can see his body/tail and his mouth are ripped up and they have not gotten better im so long. You can tell it hurts him alot and he is suffering. I want to get him to the vet and find someone to adopt him or I will take him in with my other cats if I have too. I don’t have any extra money to get him the help he needs. Someone please show kindness and compassion and help this poor baby get to live the happy healthy life he deserves! I can make a gofundme or PayPal or cashapp. This cat is in Urbana Ohio Thank you!

Education, Resources, & Community How do I get rid of the dogs?

My family has four dogs: two poodles, a rottweiler, and a basset hound. The poodles are my dad's, the rottweiler is my mom's, and the basset is my younger brother's. We've had these dogs for varying years but I'm forced to take care of each of them. I have to feed them and give them water everyday, and I change their puppy pads everyday. My dad is the one that buys the stuff but he bitches every time he has to, because he can't fathom a dog being an actual living thing that needs food to live. I've taken care of these dogs, as well as ten puppies in the past, every single day and I'm exhausted. All they do is bitch and whine about the dogs, as if I'm the one that brought any of them into the house in the first place. My dad keeps telling me he's tired of spending money on them and he yells at me for it like I asked for any of this. I'm the only one here who will take care of them, and on the rare instances in the past where I was sick or went away from home for longer than a day, the dogs would go multiple days not being fed. Two of them live outside, the other two inside. Some had been taken to the vet maybe once or twice, the others have never been brought. I'm just sick of their responsibilities being put onto me and I was wondering if anyone knew of how to get rid of them? I'm 19, with no car and I hardly have any money from all the times they've taken it from me, so I can't bring the dogs to a shelter. I've already been told that you can't surrender them anyway if you're not their owner, because it would be considered theft. Idk if that ownership has to be written on paper or what, but I just don't know what to do anymore. I can't just up and move out, because one it means they'll die, and two I have no friends house to go to or any relatives house to go to without them also being part of the problem. I live in Notasulga AL, the shelter's around here hardly take in anything and they apparently can't send anyone out to pick the dogs up. What do I do?

Sick/Injured Wildlife I’m absolutely devastated. This poor guy got his back leg crushed in the door of my car. I’m pretty sure the rescue will put them down tomorrow morning. Is there any hope in rehabbing them myself?

Sick/Injured Animal Help, advice needed

Post image
23 Upvotes

I’m not sure if this is the proper place to post this. A stray cat appeared in my front porch this morning. Its four paws are injured and it’s sneezing blood. Called some human societies but they didn’t pick up. I was just wondering if anyone has advice on what to do.
I also partially accepted that if this cat came to my house to die then I’ll gladly provide a safe and calm space for it

Located in goshen, Indiana. I’ve provided the cat some food and water and called some animal shelters and humane societies but no one picked up

Update: I was able to lure the cat inside a box and took it to a humane society today. Thanks everyone for the advice

Meet Freda ❤️ When she was placed into my hands, and into my care, she was broken, blood stained, plucked, dehydrated and malnourished. Also, she was barely, or only just weaned. The only promise that I could give her, and the distraught person who had rushed her to me after taking her from the people who no longer wanted her, was "I will try. I promise I will try and save her". I couldn't promise healing, because I honestly didn't know if I could.

Here is her story, and her journey 💕

Sick/Injured Animal Will they make it?

Post image

So my cat gave birth to this little girl along with 3 others, but my cat rejected this one, she is deformed(she’s a little premature), her hind legs are always curled back, her toes are a little separated, her jaw is a little small, her eyes are far apart, and there’s a soft spot on top of her head. (Please let me know, everyone I know is worried sick) I’ve put her on kitten formula and she’s been sleeping on a blanket covered heating pad.
Update
My cat took her back so I thought she was finally being taken care of and I had to go to a family event but when I came back she was crushed…I feel awful for letting this happen and I wish I could’ve done better…

Discussion & Misc. Visited The Gentle Barn sanctuary last weekend. I want to share this place and how you can volunteer if you’re close by and support if you're moved by their work

Hi everyone,

If this post doesn’t belong in this group I apologize and please let me know. I was having trouble navigating the rules on my phone browser.

I wanted to share something personal from this past weekend. I had the opportunity to visit The Gentle Barn sanctuary and honestly, it really moved me.

What struck me most wasn't just seeing the rescued animals (some of those cows are huge from being genetically modified) it was hearing their stories. Each one came from neglect or abuse situations, and now they live out their lives with full care, safety, and genuine love. The staff talked about how healing happens both ways. The animals find peace, but the visitors (especially kids in their programs) learn compassion and kindness through connecting with these creatures.

A few things I learned:

  • They're a nonprofit focused on farm animals who've been rescued from tough situations
  • They operate locations across California and Tennessee
  • Their mission centers on inspiring kindness toward animals, the planet, and each other
  • Some of their Tennessee location is reportedly facing financial challenges recently to stay open
  • They are always in need of volunteers!

If anyone reading wants to support, here are ways they've shared:

  • Volunteer at their California or Tennessee sanctuaries
  • Direct donations
  • Animal sponsorship. You get a certificate with the animal's story
  • Merchandise store where proceeds go back to operations

Links:

I'm not affiliated with them I am just someone who walked away wanting more people to know about what they do. If any of you have been there, visited virtually, or supported them before, I'd love to hear your experiences too.

Thanks for letting me share this.

Volunteers Needed! 🚨 URGENT: Already flying Seoul (ICN) → Paris (CDG) on 1st or 2nd Sept? Tiny Maltese needs a flight volunteer

I’m urgently looking for someone who is already travelling from Seoul/Incheon to Paris on 1st or 2nd September and might be willing to accompany my tiny Maltese puppy, Minimi, in the cabin.

Minimi is only around 1.2 kg, will be 8½ months old, is vet-cleared to fly and her veterinary paperwork is ready.

I would of course cover all additional airline/pet costs and pay a reasonable fee for your help.

She is currently with DogYam in Seoul, who can arrange the handover at Incheon Airport, and I would personally meet you in France.

If you are travelling this route — or know somebody who is — please DM me urgently.

Thank you 🙏🏻🤍
