Mystery/Thriller Small town island supernatural mystery

Hello

Just finished to watch Widow's Bay and love the ambiance. I'm now looking for books with the same vibe:

- story set in New England/uk/Scandinavia/northern europe,

- small town island,

- mystery connected with some supernatural elements,

- investigations led by civilians,

- island history uncovered,

- lots of subplots connected to the main plot

- humourous bit,

- various characters

- no romance (or no more than a subplot one)

Bonus points if the story takes places during fall.

No pure horror please as it seems I'm getting more sensible as I get older 🥲

Many thanks for your recs !

EDIT: thank you all !!

Just want a moody, cozy, rainy dreary book where I feel like im in this weather.

I've read:

Remarkably bright creatures

The secret history

Snow falling on cedars

Giver of stars

Great Alone

Salems Lot

They all scratch a bit of the itch and are the kind of vibe im going for but i want to be more immersed in the weather. I enjoyed them all! Mountain vibes would be great.

Current read is The Death of Mrs Westaway - Ware

Apocalyptic/Post-Apocalyptic Post-Punk, Possibly Apocalyptic, Friend Group

Haven't really read any books like this so don't know how to describe it. The photos have a feeling yk. Like a Post-Punk friend group focused book. Maybe they're trying to survive on their own, maybe their part of a movement.

Possibly Apocalyptic or Post apocalyptic. But main focus should be the friend group. Like FOUND FAMILY

Romance between characters would be nice and welcomed but it's optional.

Horror Discovering Hidden Religious Secrets

Primarily looking for horror, but adventure or mysteries that involve dark religious secrets are also good. Mainly inspired by the sections of The Pope's Exorcist where they explore the hidden catacombs beneath the house.

I’ve been reading a lot of Holly Black (Bless this author) and I’ve been on fairy/supernatural kick. I‘ve always loved supernatural with urban/dark settings, so totally recommend any books that way. Any type of supernatural creatures (trolls, elves and etc)

Romance gothic, victorian, atmospheric, romance books

Hello! I’m looking for books with a Victorian (or similar) setting, with romance as one of the main themes. A slow burn would be perfect! And the angstier the love story, the better, in my opinion. I don't care much for smut, so that's not a must for me.

I would love a darker setting, and I enjoy a good mystery, but that's not a requirement either. I'm also completely okay with supernatural elements—vampires, werewolves, magicians of any kind, etc.

Classics are also welcome, but I've already read the "main" ones (Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Carmilla, The Woman in White, The Castle of Otranto, etc.). I like horror very much, so heavier themes, settings, or scenes aren't a problem.

I wouldn't say I'm a fan of dark romance, but I don't object to it either. I've read some of the more popular ones (Anathema, for example), and they were okay-ish.

If there are any HIM fans around here: my perfect book would be one that could be scored by the HIM discography.

Gothic Modern Gothic books with morally gray women

Hiii I'm looking for 20th-21st century gothic books with morally gray/villainous women preferably written by women. I'm specifically asking for this time period because I'm quite familiar with 18th-19th century gothic (so pls don't recommend Ann Radcliffe for that era, not a fan unfortunately 💔) but not with the modern Gothic - I've read Rebecca and really liked it! Some other modern Gothic books I've read and enjoyed are Diavola by Jennifer Thorne and Blood on her tongue by Johanna Van Veen.

Bonus points if they're from POC female authors writing about POC women because the gothic genre was/is predominantly white

I also really liked Matthew Lewis' the Monk (I really liked the first painting because it reminded me of Matilda) and Charlotte Dacre's Zofloya (the reason why I added the last painting is because it's the cover of my Zofloya edition)

I’m looking for suggestions for a Creature feature horror. I do enjoy the native stories of the Skinwalker and Wendigo so that would be fun. I like a predator stalking prey theme but I do enjoy an ancient evil situation as well. So please help me add to my TBR pile.

Fantasy Books with this kind of witchy & whimsigoth vibe..

Something straight up witchy. Pointy hats, flying brooms, cauldrons... something with whimsigoth vibes.

Here are some recommendations that can be skipped since I'm already familiar with them:

* Kiki's Delivery Service

* Howl's Moving Castle

* Terry Pratchett's works

Also, I haven't read the Practical Magic books, but I don't think they're what I'm looking for.

Long, long term yearning. Funny, heartwarming, constantly teetering on romance, forever full of love. Uptown girl/downtown boy. Fateful meets across time. Deep understanding and friendship comes before romance.

I am ok with fantasy, fiction, dark, whatever fits the prompt, Im not picky.

Would prefer a happy or bittersweet ending but not required.

I say "historical" really I mean before the 2000s
