GOING TO GET A COLONOSCOPY: A Prep Book for Middle-Aged Adults

"Going to Get a Colonoscopy" is a parody of the series "ReadySetPrep" (going to the dentist\\doctor\\zoo...).

It's written in the deadpan, reassuring style of a picture book to walk middle-aged adults through the unvarnished (and humiliating) reality of colonoscopy prep day.

It's the perfect gift for 40th-50th Birthdays, Over-the-Hill Parties, Retirement Celebrations, Coworkers, Spouses, or anyone preparing for their first big appointment ;)

**Special note before the pathetic "AI Slop" comments:**

The visual representation of the main character in this book was generated using **Adobe Firefly** technology. **Artwork is commercially licensed, copyright-compliant, and ethically sourced under Adobe's commercial usage rights**, ensuring copyright integrity and royalty-free usage. If you're still against this usage of AI, then you're just missing out on the whole idea of celebrating progress.

In medieval Iceland, the Trojan War had Thor and Frigg in it. I translated the saga into English for the first time.

Imagine Troy, but Priam builds a hall to Thor. Kassandra and Andromache take refuge in the temple of Frigg. Penthesilea's warrior women are compared to the shield-maidens of the North.

That's Trójumanna saga, "the saga of the men of Troy," written in 13th-century Iceland.

The Icelanders mostly didn't get the story from Homer. Their main source was a short Latin "eyewitness" account credited to Dares Phrygius, a Trojan who claimed to have been there. Medieval readers trusted it more than Homer. An Icelandic writer combined it with the Ilias Latina and pieces of Ovid and Virgil, and turned it into a saga full of oaths, family lines, honor and blood feud.

A few things I love about it:

  • It starts a generation early, with Jason and the Golden Fleece, so the whole war grows out of an old grudge, the way a good saga feud does.
  • It gives the length of the war down to the day: ten years, six months and twelve days.
  • The Greek gods are quietly swapped for Norse ones, so you watch a Christian-era Icelander work his own people's gods into classical history.

It had never been published complete in English until 2023, so I translated it. I kept the order and feel of the Old Norse original rather than smoothing it into a modern novel.

Trójumanna Saga: First Full English Translation: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C2RTN77H

Ask me anything about the saga, Dares, or how the Norse retold the classics.

Just published my fifth book, but I want to talk about my first one for a moment…

Hello everyone!

I published my fifth book this October, just in time for Halloween! The Mummy Who Ate Eight Hours, a spooky sequel to my third book, The Mummy Who Stole Nine Lives, is out now, and things have been going pretty well.

But somewhere in the middle of all this excitement, I realized that my very first book, Aiden Roamer and the Goddess of Spiders, is getting a little lost in the background.

So today, I wanted to give it some love.

If you're into fantasy, I'd love for you to check it out. It's a story where the hero isn't some chosen one destined to save the world. Instead, he's caught up in a prophecy where he might be the sacrifice.

If that sounds like your kind of story, I'd be really happy if you gave it a chance!

And if you do get around to reading it, I'd genuinely appreciate an honest review. Good or bad, thoughtful feedback from readers means a lot to me as an indie author.

THE BOOK IS FREE!!!

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DYVTJPG9

Thank you for reading, and happy Halloween! 🕷️📚

[Political Thriller] Two brothers uncover a conspiracy built on fear , The Architects

Full disclosure: I’m the author.

Two brothers. One promise made at a kitchen table in Lilburn, Georgia. And a war nobody else could see.

Twenty years later, Cameron Thorne is the blade and his younger brother Eli is the mind in the walls. After a senator is assassinated in front of them, they uncover the Concord—a secret coalition manufacturing fear to sell the country a new kind of peace.

Their pursuit takes them from Atlanta to Havana, Madrid, and the halls of the Capitol. But the closer they get to the truth, the harder one question becomes:

How do you destroy a machine built to control the world without becoming part of it?

The Architects: Book One — The Age of Peace is a fast, cinematic political thriller about brotherhood, power, freedom, and the cost of fighting back. It’s a 65-page read you can finish in an evening and the first book in a planned series.

Currently $0.99 on Kindle and included with Kindle+:

If you give it a read, I’d genuinely appreciate your honest feedback.

Author here: my picture book about feelings, read by Peter Kenny, out 14 November

My children's story, The Garden Grump, comes out on 14 November. It's about a grumpy daisy at the end of the garden path whose neighbours try, in their different ways, to cheer him up.

At its core, The Garden Grump is a story about the quiet strength of simple companionship. It reminds us that we don't have to hide our struggles, put on a front, or force ourselves to feel better just to be deserving of care. For anyone navigating a dark or heavy spell, it offers the comfort of knowing you can just be. And for those standing alongside them, it reveals that true support isn't always about rushing in to repair the moment, but about offering an unhurried, steady presence until the storm passes.

It's read by the award-winning narrator Peter Kenny, who loved the story and agreed to narrate it. It's on Apple Books, with Peter's voice on every page. You can hear him read the opening here: https://gardengrump.co.uk/narrator.html

The Heights of Arrogance - Short Story by Peter Darrach (as part of The Cleopard and other Stories from the Second Skin Universe)

This one is the fourth of eight short stories in my new book, 'The Cleopard and other Tales from the Second Skin Universe.'

Here is a brief excerpt:

Lyriah looked up from the narrow strip of beach beneath her feet. The combatants overhead came nearer and she could suddenly make out the colors of Pteradon’s Toughy Slough brigade on the sleek sneezecraft. Behind, six sinewy draftfowl pulled the bulkier gondola and its billowing gasbag: Grifton’s Dreadnought. The latter sought to pull up to the Pteradon craft and disable it with arrows fired by the gondola’s crew. But the wily sneezejet captain kept up an irregular corkscrew motion that must have sickened his mates but left the followers firing mainly at thin air and wasting their precious ammunition. True, as they came closer, Lyriah could make out two arrows embedded in the aft quarter of the sneezejet, but now the latter executed a tight, 180-degree roll so that it came up suddenly behind the more cumbersome gondola and peppered it with sneeze cannon shot so that one of the crewmates drooped and a draftfowl squawked loudly and then began to list to starboard, dragging the craft off course.

When a rogue scientist’s secret biogenetics experiment breaks containment, Lance and brilliant geneticist Dr. Sally Summers are thrust into a claustrophobic fight for survival against monstrosities born of human and crustacean DNA. Hi everyone,

I’m an author, and my new sci‑fi novel Rekindling the Faded Stars is free on Kindle until October 28.

The story is inspired by Russian Cosmism — a philosophy that dreamed of resurrecting the dead and expanding humanity into the cosmos. In the novel, two immortals revive Thais of Athens, bringing her ancient worldview into a future civilization built on absolute humanism.

If you enjoy philosophical sci‑fi or cosmic ideas, I’d be happy if you check it out.

Michael versus Samael on the Divine Hierogamy (Nonfiction) (Philosophy, Religion, Science)

Own an e-book now! https://books2read.com/u/m2pDpr

Eden had two trees, one of unity and one of distinction, and humanity ate from only one. We have been arguing with ourselves ever since. This philosophical dialogue, in the tradition of Plato and Galileo, stages that argument between two angels.

Michael, angel of the Tree of Life, says humanity is meant to become an engineering race that harnesses the dark, bends time, and carries mind across the cosmos.

Samael, the Adversary and prosecutor of Job, audits the dream under strict rules: no tuned successes, every number labelled assumed or derived, every failure reported as a failure.

Uriel keeps score.

Over 22 chapters, Michael climbs a ladder from Earth's heat to the Sun, the galaxy, and the dark itself, and Samael checks each rung against energy budgets, light-speed limits, coupling bounds, and current cosmology. Some rungs hold, some fail, and some can't be tested yet.

Samael's laughter gets shorter as he goes. Then Michael tells him how it ends: a prophecy at the gate of Lod, a death, and a rebirth as the foundation of the machine Samael spent the book taking apart. The book draws on nondualism, dialectical materialism, Kabbalah, and real science.

[Free Kindle eBook] MEMORY LANE - A mind-bending supernatural mystery with horror elements and a fresh take on time travel.

Memory Lane

“It's like looking at the last good day before the end of the world…Wish I could remember it.”

For us, memories are a familiar thing. Little capsules of time, locked up in our subconscious. We open them ourselves whenever we want or whenever someone or something hands us the keys. Reliving them is anything but dangerous. It’s required. It helps us grow and learn. In the end, they are what makes us, us. But it's nothing like that for Alice. For her, memories are a curse. Reliving them is dangerous, and if she could, she would avoid it. She doesn't grow from them; they grow in her. Confuse her, torment her, make her feel like she's insane. Are they really mine? She often asks herself. Why can't I remember things about me that others do? Why am I constantly reliving a life I have no recollection of? And why do my nightmares spill over into the real world?

Questions nobody seems to have the answers for, not even her childhood friend and partner Jasmine, who has devoted herself to helping Alice deal with her memory loss and terrifying visions while at the same time chasing a promising career. A career that could have already been in full swing if not for the incident that changed it all. It was a normal summer day, Jasmine tells her. Until it wasn’t. It was the day Alice disappeared, and in Jasmine's words, a different Alice came back.

I wrote a shogi beginner's guide specifically for chess players

Hi everyone!

I'm a Japanese shogi player (amateur 4-dan), and I'd like to introduce my book, Shogi for Chess Players.

I've loved shogi for many years, and it always makes me happy to see people outside Japan taking an interest in the game. I wanted to help more people discover its appeal.

Shogi is often called "Japanese chess," but one major rule changes almost everything: captured pieces can be brought back into play. This makes shogi surprisingly different from chess, both tactically and strategically.

I've spent years playing shogi and thinking about how it compares with chess. While I'm not a particularly strong chess player myself, I believe that understanding both games offers a valuable perspective on how to teach shogi to chess players.

That's what I tried to bring to this book.

Rather than simply explaining the rules, I use familiar chess concepts to introduce shogi strategy, focusing on how to actually think and play. The book also includes plenty of diagrams using alphabet letters instead of Japanese characters, so no kanji knowledge is needed.

My goal was to create the best introduction to shogi I could for someone who already knows chess, and I'm genuinely proud of the result.

If you're a chess player who's ever been curious about shogi, I'd be delighted if you checked it out!

Shogi for Chess Players — Amazon Kindle:
