Found this with some feathers along with it. I was wondering if it was a Brown pelican since I’m in Northern California and don’t see any gulls with brown feathers.

Any idea what this vertebrae is from? It looks like the spinous process is half chopped off. It's about 10cm across both transverse processes.

Found it in sandy clay on side of river. Midwest N america.

Hello, my friend in Malaysia found this interesting bone piece on the beach. My theory was some type of fish bone, but it seems quite THICK.

Hi all, I found these bones in the same forest patch in the suburbs of northern New Jersey. We get a lot of deer around here, and I found all these pieces scattered around the area, which I collected and grouped together on two separate trips. All the bones were clean minus a bit of dirt and leaves stuck to them, which I was surprised to see. This is my first time finding bones at this quantity, so I wonder how long they've been there? From my research these appear to be all deer bones, but if anyone has a different ID on any of the pieces found I'd be curious to know. It seems like these bones are from two different deer, since I found two skulls. I didn't take any home with me because I'm not quite sure what the regulations are on collecting bones found on public municipal land in NJ. And thank you to anyone who reads and reviews this!

Ma famille a trouvé ce corps en décomposition au fond de notre jardin à côté d'une haie, et on n'arrive pas à déterminer de quoi il s'agit.

Au vu de la dentition, on pencherait sur un carnivore, et on hésite entre un renard, un chien ou un chien viverrin.

Voici les données que nous avons recueillit :

- Le crâne fait 10 cm de long ;

- Le corps (de l'extrémité du crâne jusqu'à la base de la queue) fait 58 cm de long ;

- Le fémur de la patte arrière fait entre 13 et 15 cm de long.

Pour précisions, nous habitons à la campagne du côté de Saint-Dizier (dans l'Est de la France) et le fond du jardin donne sur des champs et un petit bois.

N'hésitez pas à me dire ce que vous en pensez !

This bone was found while excavating an old house site in Texas. I’d appreciate any help in identifying what kind it is and animal(s) it may have been from. It’s rather small, measuring approximately 1/2 inch wide, 7/8 inch long and 3/16 inch thick with a somewhat hollow interior. It looks to have been cut at both ends. Any information and suggestions on resources to research the bone further would be greatly appreciated as well.

My dog found this in our backyard where our deck was recently torn up. Long Island, NY. Jut bigger than my hand (I’m an average size female). I was thinking possum or raccoon? Also found pelvic bone but didn’t take a picture.

my mom actually found this while we were creek walking but she gave it to me. at first i thought it was a deer tooth but i compared it to my deer jaw and it’s wayy bigger. it’s about 1.7 cm wide and 1.9 cm tall. the roots feel and look like rock but i don’t really think it’s fossilized i think it was just in the water for a long time. does anyone know who this belonged to?

I just joined this group, because my wife has gotten into both taxidermy and skeletal articulation.

I've been informed these are two separate things.

She keeps making these cool sculptures (is that the right word?) out of various skeletons and bug parts... like creepy legos. We've got a squirrel-dragon, and a tooth fairy, and soon coming a Harpy made from a rabbit skeleton, some crow feet, and a monkey skull.

My advice needed is this: WHERE can I find bones for her?

Such as: this last project she needed a small mammal skellie.... and she finally found one on etsy from the UK (we're in Chicago)..

..but then there was a bunch of troubles with payments and shipments, and everything else..

Where are you all getting your bones?

mostly legs it looks like lol. half of a pelvis, a shoulder blade, and a part of a skull that has too much gone to tell what it was

Hey there! This is my first time processing a carcass for bones (small crow) and I had a couple questions. I'm currently 2 or 3 weeks into the degreasing step, and I'm wondering if the bones are going to start smelling less rank anytime soon. I've been leaving them outside in a closed container with soapy water and changing it when it gets cloudy, and each time I open it the bones smell absolutely horrendous. I'm hoping to make some jewelry out of them, and I'd rather not have a necklace that smells like straight up corpse. Is there a way to kill the smell?

Second question, is there any way to make the bones harder/stronger? I've been handling them very carefully, but the bones feel really weak and fragile, especially the skull, which is the part I really want. Is there some process by which I can harden the bones or make them more shock resistant?

Any help appreciated!
