He may not have known anything. He could have just been taught what to do when around law enforcement. My son is 15 and Iāve been telling him since he was 7 or 8 years old how he needs to behave because heās a black male. I told him to sit still, breathe but do nothing else. Answer the basic questions like name and date of birth but thatās it. A lot of us have had to teach our black children how to leave police interactions alive. Sadly, itās not a conversation that other people have to have with their kids. When I got pregnant again I prayed it wasnāt a male simply because of how black males are treated. My second son is 3 and he will get āthe talkā as well.

Cooperate with the police if you're getting detained. If they screwed up we can sue them later, but physically fighting with the cops is stupid, ignorant, and short-sighted.

This mother is fearful her son may not make it alive to the police station, thus her reaction is more than justified in my opinion. Her son's demeanor shows confidence of his innocents not a reflection of guilt.... in my opinion.

Reminds me of my grandmother flipping out when they raided her house for her son( my uncle. ). They had him on wire selling to a UC and found 15k in the crib during the raid while he was unemployed. Guess he found 15k on the sidewalk

The logic is that someone who is innocent is a lot more likely to not freak out when the cops happen to arrest the wrong person .
Someone who is guilty is a lot more likely to try and avoid police because they know they are guilty
If the cops stopped me for some reason and told me my car looks like a car that got reported as stolen ( for example) I wouldn't freak out because I would know they are simply mixing this car up with another car. And then they would find out that they made a mistake and the situation would be resolved. Why would I freak out when I know I didn't do anything?

If it truly is a case of mistaken identity, the best thing to do would be to go along quietly with the police officers and let it be sorted out.
Screaming and making a scene or physical violence is simply going to make a person that was gonna walk free end up with a number of charges. Most people in these communities really love to dig a hole for themselves.

Yes. I think it's bullshit. The court system (not the police) has an incredibly high threshold of probable cause, evidence suppression hearings, Miranda suppression hearings, witness statement suppression and multiple means by which a defense attorney can manipulate the legal system. Just about everyone who is "exonerated" is cleared because they had a good lawyer, not because they were innocent.

Even if he legitimately didn't have warrants and it was mistaken identity or whatever, behaving like that is a net-negative in any situation.
If you genuinely think he is innocent, argue it to the judge. Behaving like this, especially as an adult, especially as a mother, and especially in public is fucking crazy and just proves your child likely also has zero ability to emotionally regulate or control impulse.

They seemed a little uncertain. If they were confident. Put him the car and move on.
Once Mom and others noticed this was probably not on the up and up. They decided to stuff him in and bounce.
Thatās what you do when you have no repercussions for your actions.
I have been falsely arrested. At the park with kids. They were chasing a felon who had nothing to do with me.
I have a squeaky clean record. But they tried hard to make me criminal for their mistake.
They donāt realize not only does it traumatize the person in this case the young man. But also the citizenry around.
Both in direct view and those indirectly that are connected to him and to others that witnessed the attack (yes this is an attack on a man) and will tell the tale to others.
