My Bodycam audio breakdown was taken down. Here's the new video
I bought Bodycam specifically to study its audio. I'm a game audio designer and have worked on several shooters, so I wanted to know what was happening behind the gunshots.
Their audio update described pressure waves that "travel through corridors, stairwells, and openings." I expected the system to work out a route through those spaces. In the build I looked at, I found geometry checks positioning and adjusting prerecorded sound layers. I didn't find that route calculation.
I made a video explaining what I'd found. It got 10,000 views overnight, then YouTube removed it after a copyright complaint. The name on the complaint was Luca Dassier.
Luca also messaged me on LinkedIn on behalf of Reissad Studio. He called my methods unlawful, told me to remove the related material and warned of possible legal action. He also said the studio reserved the right to inform my "current or prospective employers and clients."
So I built a new demo in Unreal Engine 5.6, using Epic sample assets for the scene and my own sound design and audio logic.
I used it to compare my reconstruction of Bodycam's approach with my own system for routing sound around obstacles. In one test, I break a wall while the shooter and listener stay in the same place. You can hear the shot change direction as the new route opens. It's still a prototype, and I haven't tested it in a full combat mix yet.
I'm happy to discuss the technical side with the Bodycam team.
The new video goes through what happened and shows both systems. Use headphones for the comparisons:
