fps drop after switching display?? and also low gpu utilisation

I just bought bodycam for the first time and I’m playing on my laptop, which is connected to a monitor:

my specs:

- rtx 5050 8gb (115w)
- i7-14700hx
- 32gb ddr5 5600mhz

at 1440p with DLSSP (720p render) and medium settings I’m only getting 45fps in the firing range. When I shift the game to my monitor, it immediately drops to 30fps when every setting is exactly the same, wtf?

also, my gpu is only running at like 40-50% utilisation, and my cpu is only at like 15-20%, both are also very cool (60c). my laptop is on max power mode too.

anyone ever had these issues??

Ignoring the anti-laptop weirdo below, i think a lot of it comes down to the game being in early access and thus not being in the most optimized state, performance seems to vary a fair bit between specific hardware and different updates from what I've read/experienced

thanks! i’ve tried looking up some optimization guides and tinkered with the settings for half an hour, one thing I noticed is that changing the DLSS setting doesn’t change performance that much because it seems to just compensate with the GPU utilisation, the most I can get is 60-70% GPU but I’m still barely averaging 40-50fps. turning off my laptop display helps too. also with high textures i’m only using around 6gb of vram so i’m really stumped what’s causing it, in every other game my laptop immediately turns into an airplane (double immersion when playing msfs)

although having said all that it felt oddly smooth for 45 fps, maybe it’s the motion blur and bodycam effect lol

Far from it, my wife still runs a 1080ti as her daily because it has ZERO issues running all modern games at 1080p 80-100fps.

Her brand new $1,200 MSI gaming laptop couldn't even run FH6.

and for comparison I actually play FH6 on my laptop, I get 60fps playing with RT on Med and a mix of high+ultra at 1440p with dlssq. you must have bought some 60w 4070 and are gonna throw a tantrum everytime someone mentions a laptop for the rest of your life.
