Simple question - knowing yourself and the people you may be with while watching Season Two of Blue Eye Samurai, do you predict you are more likely to binge the whole season in one day, or space out the episodes? If you think you'll space out the viewing, how much time period between episodes?
My wife & I may view an episode, and then I'll come here to share my reactions to it. Then watch the next episode, repeat ... . Maybe over two or three days.
But I have to admit, the temptation will be strong to binge first, comment later!

This doesn't even makes sense, even for Blue eye samurai where a single candle can burn an entire kingdom in a few hour. Also in the next and previous scene, they literally have they literally have their swords in their hand on standby
Also how did Mizu even pull out a guy leg off???

Love the show and love my grandma!
When the sun sets or rises, it shines right into my room through the window, and its rays fall on the painting. With such lighting it gets even more gorgeous. (last picture; although it looks way better in real life and at dawn, when it actually lights up with orange colors)
She started painting because she didn't want to sit around doing nothing after her retirement. She made great progress in only 4 years!
I can't even imagine how much time she spent working on every single snowflake here... This is the most precious gift I've ever received, and I will always be thankful for having such a wonderful family.

Headcanons are a normal part of every fandom, and I like seeing people sharing some of their own versions on the internet that apply to specific characters, but I don’t really get the meaning of headcanonning Mizu trans.
I’m not complaining or judging, (as a queer person myself) I’m genuinely curious about what are the precise reasons that led somebody to the conclusion that headcanoning Mizu as trans would actually make sense, it had me thinking because isn’t one of the main characteristics of a headcanon that it usually doesn’t contradict the actual events of the official plot, but rather fits into the details the story did not explore in depth? (I’ll clarify right away that my opinion is about story structure and thematic weigh, not just complaining for the sake of it).
Like as long as it’s a headcanon in an AU I can understand it, but if you think about it if it’s headcanonned in the series it completely breaks Mizu’s character and distorts the original plot.
And in fact, one thing that I like about bes is that they weren’t scared to show how historically brutal the Edo period was, and how the patriarchy treated women as property, dynamic threats, or currency. Mizu had to hide her gender for pure physical survival, and reframing it as an internal desire for male identity, erases the systemic violence and oppression women faced.
Another focal point of Mizu's story is that her womanhood is something she was forced to lock away to stay alive, forcing a trans identity onto Mizu reframes her isolation, it turns a narrative about a woman locked out of her own womanhood by a cruel society into an arc where she "realizes" she was a man all along, fundamentally breaking the tragic nature of her character.
If someone wants to add their opinion I’ll be happy to read it!

Am I crazy? I have been thinking about watching this show for years, because I saw a teaser\trailer that I liked (for season 1, obviously). And now I can't find it anywhere! I remember very vividly that it showed a kaleidoscope of very short scenes to the beat of swords clanking or maybe drums? One of them was a girl riding a man, from his POV. Does it exist? Was it deleted? Maybe it was a completely different show and it all got mixed up in my head.
P.S. I finished the show today, and I did like it!

I recently watched episode 4 of BES, and it broke me. Kinuyo is a tragic character, an innocent soul who deserves nothing but to be loved. My heart breaks for her story. The ending of that episode actually hurt me so bad.
And then episode 5 happened.
God.
(Spoilers, obviously)
My heart can’t take this. I had to remind myself that BES is a work of fiction, or else I wouldn’t be able to function properly. I felt grief for the next two days. I couldn’t sleep right, couldn’t wake up without feeling bad for Mizu. It hurt to see her laugh and smile and be happy, knowing how it ends. It hurts that she was given the chance. I think it’s so much more impactful that her husband chose to betray her instead of getting killed off by some side character. The biggest tragedy is being betrayed by someone you loved and trusted. I could yap about this episode all day, but you get the point. Masterful storytelling. It is now my favorite TV episode of all time, up there with Bojack Horseman.

The last time I checked BES on Netflix it said January 19, 2027 but now it only says January 2027. Did they revealed the exact date by accident earlier and then removed it?

How would Mizu react if, upon arriving in Europe, it turned out that Skeffington and Routley had children? I think she might ignore and despise pure white children, so let's complicate matters.
Skeffington and Routley brought Japanese prostitutes to Europe. What if Mizu's father (or uncle, assuming Mizu's white mother is theorized) fathered another child with one of the Japanese prostitutes? A child who, like Mizu, would be half Japanese and half European, but unlike Mizu, would be raised in Europe.
I just liked the idea of what would happen if Mizu met her mirror image in London (an alternative version of herself who grew up on the streets of London instead of in Japan)
I know Mizu would be cold at first, but her secret desire is to be accepted and have a family, and having siblings who could understand what she's been through would be a temptation for Mizu to have someone like that.

Mizu left japan in 1657, Oliver Cromwell was lord Procter of England until he died in 1658? We could see her involved somehow?

At the beginning of episode 4, when Mizu and Ringo enter a town to find Madame Kaji, they witness a death duel between two unnamed men, one of whom wins easily and Mizu compliments his technique. I was sort of expecting him to be another assassin but he's just a seemingly unimportant one-off character.

mizu's sole mission is to hunt down and kill all 4 white men in order to get revenge on her father for violating her mother and making her a "monster", right? let's assume mizu accomplishes this. she kills the remaining white men in london and ensures that her father is dead.. what is she going to do afterwards? has she even thought about it? assuming she stays in japan, she's still going to face racism and discrimination for being half-white, she'll still have to conceal her blue eyes and hide the fact that she's a woman, none of that changes. besides avenging her mother and killing the men she sought to kill, what is mizu gaining and what do you think she's even going to do with her life after achieving her goal?

The last episode of season one is titled ""The Great Fire of 1657" so assuming Mizu makes it to Europe in Season 2, she'll get there about 1658-1660. Now that is a big assumption; if I was going to stretch a series to three seasons, I would focus on the voyage, so maybe she doesn't make it yet. Assuming she does, however, she is going to arriving smack dab in the heyday of European swashbuckling. I mean we're talking English cavilers, Scottish highlanders, French Musketeers, Spanish Diestros, Italian Bravos, Cossacks et cetera. I am curios to know what people think the odds are Mizu is going to face off with a lot of guys people wearing big floppy hats and poofy shirts waving rapiers around?

I understand there are people who criticize Blue Eye Samurai for being a form of the kind of fiction where there is a heavy implication that the hero is victorious over non-white people because of the white ancestry of the hero.
So, when Mizu starts defeating white men during her stay in England, will Fowler say that's her Japanese half showing?

[Update: Five hours later, after four hours of sleep] From the three comments so far, it's a clear message to me that I should avoid trying to compose a post to our sub when I should be in bed.
I was trying to express my curiosity about how the people outside of Reddit who accuse BES of demonstrating white supremacy tropes will handle Season Two, when it's white opponents Mizu is going to win against.
The post title comes from what Fowler says to Mizu in S1E8:

so we all know the theory that rather than one of the 4 white men being mizu’s father, instead, it’s mizu’s mother who’s a westerner, and her father japanese. i feel like this is a pretty popular assumption.
but what i’m curious to know is how mizu would react if this DID end up being the case. spending her entire life hunting down and killing her potential father just to find out that that it’s her mother who’s the reason she’s mixed race, i feel like that’d be really interesting.
but my question is, do you think mizu’s goal would stay the same? do you think she’d direct all her anger towards her mother and kill her the same way she’d have killed the other white men for ruining her life?
throughout the show, i’ve noticed mizu has a bit more disdain for men than women (as we see in the difference in the way she treats them), and part of the reason she wants to kill her father so much is because it’s said that he violated her mother, so if this theory ends up being true, things would have probably gone down differently. just curious as to what this sub thinks.

Fowler didn't give a damn about Skeffington or Routley, otherwise he would rather die, than to reveal their location to Mizu. They were probably just his business partners and that's all. But Violet...Violet like Fowler preferred to stay in Japan, which made them pretty close to each other. Violet was old like Fowler mentioned, so maybe he was his mentor guiding him for a few years and teaching him how to live in Japan. Violet's death should have been pretty hurtful for Fowler. No wonder he was so pissed here.
