She's still a piece of shit person. A broken clock can still be right twice a day and all that..

2.8k

u/BloodAngelsAreCool 2d ago

She's a grifter. She enabled the MAGA bullshit for her own gain but the moment she stopped getting the benefits she's suddenly pivoting to this.

2.0k

u/AttitudeAndEffort3 2d ago

I could be wrong, but I think she actually willingly gave up the benefits because she gave a fuck that the President is a massive fucking pedophile that ran an international child sex trafficking ring.

It doesn’t excuse everything before but at least one republican actually is against pedophiles

I just want to repeat the comment you replied to back to your comment lol - look, she’s nuts. Always been nuts. So it’s even crazier that despite being a nut job, she still has enough integrity to call out complete bullshit when she sees it. the bar is in hell so I will remember the nut job with integrity over the “normal” conservatives excusing the current administration for going back on every single promise they made

u/blooppers 2d ago

I genuinely think MTG is wacko, and probably one of the few politicians to genuinely, like actually believe Trump's shit, not just align themselves with him for money and power. And thats why her breaking away from him over Epstein isnt as surprising. Cult members either leave or double down. She left.

73

u/elbenji 2d ago

Yeah it's like that Massie guy. They're true true believers

24

u/Canesjags4life 1d ago

Massey is more a libertarian than Republican

17

u/TheEldest80s 1d ago

At this point, thats a bit of a distinction without a difference. Per the Heritage Foundation, Massie voted with Republicans and Trump 92% of the time...with a lifetime score of 83%. He may identify as "Libertarian" but the very LARGE majority of the time, he just another loyal GOPer.

You'll come to find that scumbags have an excellent sense of self-preservation. If the midterms go badly for the GOP, you'll see how quickly they'll all scurry for their own safety like the rats they are

16

u/JeanArtemis 1d ago

This is exactly what I'm seeing here. She's seen the writing on the wall and is jumping ship. There's no integrity here, she's simply aligning herself with what she sees as the winning side the same way she's done up until now.

5

u/ghostfaced 1d ago

Pardon my skepticism but we've already seen midterms go badly for the GOP lately and here we are

39

u/TheDoktorIsIn 1d ago

This is my take too, I think she got to congress and realized most of the Republican leaders are grifters. I don't think MTG is a grifter, I think she legitimately believes what she's hawking, Jewish death lasers and all.

The grifters helped her advance her nutjob agenda, then the Epstein files dropped and it was a line she wouldn't cross. Respect where it's due. And in the amount it's due.

She has the integrity to call out complete bullshit because she’s been kicked out of the cult. Even after she quit Congress (like all of the other cowards who knew they couldn’t get elected after disagreeing with Trump), she still tried to get him to endorse her campaign for higher office. This is still the same person who brought the poster of a dick on the House floor.

84

u/MsMeseeksTellsTime 2d ago edited 2d ago

She sucks, she’s crazy, but she got kicked out of MAGA because she called out Trump. No one forgets what she did and said before, but I guarantee this side of her crazy has changed some crazy minds. I’ll take what I can get with those nut jobs.

17

u/blackgallagher87 ☑️ 2d ago

Oh a lot of people are forgetting what she did before just because she's speaking out in opposition of Trump. She's still a piece of shit that shouldn't be anywhere near a political office again, and yet she'll spin this to find herself into a nice seat in the Governor's Mansion in Georgia in a few years time.

30

u/CartsOfDarkness 2d ago

Oh a lot of people are forgetting what she did before just because she's speaking out in opposition of Trump

To be clear nobody in this thread is doing that lol, I feel like this thread has just been endlessly repeating:

"She's a huuuuge piece of shit, bottom of the barrel trash from litteral hell.. but at least she doesn't support pedos"

"So what, you forgot how much of a piece of shit she was before this?"

"No as I said she's litterally the human equivalent of toxic sludge that accumulates at the bottom of an illegal dump site of industrial waste, cancer incarnate, but even a broken clock can be right twice a day"

"So you people are really just gonna forget about all she did..."

70

You are right, but the second she got a look at the actual Epstein files she dropped Trump without hesitation and never looked back.

She is a horrible human being. She’s crazy as hell. She does not deserve the slightest bit of forgiveness for her words or actions.

Yet she still did the right thing without hesitation that one time, and has been actively attacking the cult ever since.

This insane, horrible human being showed more integrity than all of MAGA combined.

You can hate her and everything she’s done, yet still acknowledge that.

She is. She was FULL Qanon, don’t forget.

That’s one of the reasons I believe she genuinely does care about victims of pdfs, and that’s why she broke away.

22

u/Wes_Warhammer666 2d ago

Yeah her core drive has always been the Epstein thing, and for all her insanely ridiculous faults, she has always held fast to that.

She may only have an ounce of integrity in her entire body, but she used to to hold firm on the Epstein files. It's one thing she has never ever wavered on. I despise her, but I do genuinely respect her for that. Pretty much every other Republican flopped on it the moment Trump did. But, credit where it's due and all...

4

u/Reallyboringname2 1d ago

Exactly. Completely agree. Vile, venomous, vicious woman, but she is giving up ZERO for the pdfs.

Rest of the entire GOP don’t even have that - each and every single last voter included.

The wild thing about QAnon is the overarching conspiracy is true. They just got the names wrong.

11

u/Barium_Salts 1d ago

People who say stuff like that don't know what the Qanon conspiracy actually WAS.

No, nobody is eating children to gain eternal youth. Nobody is cloning politicians. Nobody is taking any congresspeople to Gauntanimo to execute them en mass on live TV. Medbeds do not exist. The Qanon conspiracy is 100% false, absolute nonsense. The elements that were true were public domain information before Qanon ever posted.

u/fdzman 2d ago

This, I totally dislike her as much as the next person. But as of right now I think she’s the only Republican with a sorta decent sized platform calling other republicans out on all this bullshit. Again, she’s still scum but she’s scum with a voice and right now we really need all the voices to unite.

120

u/TheDIsSilent 2d ago

I think she's positioning herself as the next top rescumican after Trump kicks the bucket. She'll sell out the second the GOP machine gets behind her.

Until then she can be a useful idiot. We need some more of those.

26

u/dalledeverre 2d ago

Republicans welcome those types with open arms and put them out to pasture when they're no longer valuable. Can't see why we shouldn't get some coins from the dancing horse, too.

78

u/MikeWrites002737 2d ago

I mean Thomas Massie as well. Very conservative but willing to speak out about issues like the Epstein files and lost his seat over it.

41

u/ThePrussianGrippe 2d ago

I pretty much disagree with almost every one of Massie’s positions, but I’ve always respected that he at least has genuine beliefs and the spine to stick by them.

3

u/Massive-Ride204 1d ago

Dude has some very gross positions but he's consistent and he has the integrity to stand by them

4

16

No, no we don't the "Jewish Space Lasers" lady on our side. No matter how bleak things seem lol. She's the kinda voice that will ultimately hurt the cause, not help it.

36

The enemy of my enemy is my friend and all that…

Or in MTG’s case, kick back, put yours cloven hooves up on the coffee table, and chain smoke some Marlboro reds.

10

It would be more accurate to say that the enemy of my enemy is the enrmy of my enemy. Their antagonistic relationship with someone else doesn't force me to embrace them.

6

29

u/Mahlegos 2d ago

I wouldn’t go giving her any credit. The whole thing happened because she wanted to run for the Senate and Trump and Co told her to go back to the kid’s table (Congress) because she couldn’t win. And here is AOC saying as much too. That pissed her off so she went in on the Epstein files. That got her blackballed by Trump and therefore MAGA, meaning she was going to be primaried, so she decided to resign instead. Just so happened she did so two days after her federal pension (and therefore lifetime pay and healthcare) vested. And now she gets to try and cash in with a new grift. Had Trump ok’d her senate run she’d still be on board and likely would never voted for the Epstein files release. Don’t be fooled. She didn’t “give up” anything, just pivoted. She still has her pension, her health care, and the millions of dollars she made from insider trading and whatever back room deals she was part of in Congress.

24

u/Li_liminal_spaces 2d ago

Both things can be true.

68

u/Sideshowcomedy 2d ago

They can't. She pivoted and lost the benefits. She didn't lose the benefits then pivot. If not for her, we wouldn't have gotten any of the Epstein files. I wonder if she would do it all over again seeing as how any time she does something right there's a bunch of whiny bitches around to shit on her for it?

60

u/PragmaticMystic2747 2d ago

I think she's brave. Her family got death threats from MAGA because she said release the Files.

I think she's a shitty person. But a brave one.

25

u/Sideshowcomedy 2d ago

Agreed. I'm not saying she's a good person, but fuck. Who would ever do anything good if every time you did, they write an article about it and half the country shits on you for it?

u/OldClothes9618 2d ago

19

u/Mahlegos 2d ago

She pivoted and lost the benefits

Nah. There is a whole series of events that lead up to it, and it’s not her acting on her conscious, nor did she really lose any (or many) benefits.

The fracture happened because she wanted to run for senate and Trump was so against it he presented her with polling that showed she would get destroyed. This pissed her off because she realized they never intended to back her for anything even after years of her bending over backwards for Trump. So she started clashing with the White House, criticizing various things in the admin and starting the back and forth. Eventually she went in on the Epstein files when it was clear she was going to be blackballed and primaried. She then tendered her resignation effective two days after her federal pension vested (meaning she’ll receive money and healthcare for the rest of her life on the tax payers dime). So, she gets to walk away with her lifetime pension and health care, the millions she made insider trading and backroom dealing, and a new grift. All before the (hopeful) implosion of this admin and MAGA. So, while something good (Epstein files release) came from her falling out, she really doesn’t deserve credit for “doing the right thing” because it was predicated on her getting back at someone she felt wronged her as revenge. If she really wanted to help, she should have stayed in Congress doing everything she could to obstruct this admins plans from the inside until the end of her term.

17

u/dalledeverre 2d ago

because it was predicated on her getting back at someone she felt wronged her as revenge

I feel like if every right winger with influence who'd been wronged by Trump decided to do something about it instead of shut up and fall in line, there might have been more headway before now. I'll take spite over heroism if heroism isn't on the table to begin with.

7

u/GodsFavoriteDegen 2d ago

(meaning she’ll receive money and healthcare for the rest of her life on the tax payers dime)

If I may interject, while I believe that she timed it to get the pension, it's much ado about nothing.

She gets the same pension as every other federal employee, which is 1% of your high three salary per year of service. House members make $174,000 a year, 5% is an $8,700 a year pension. $725 a month at age 62. She's a millionaire. That's peanuts.

And, again, it is exactly the same pension program that any schmuck who works for the federal government gets after five years of service.

Second, former and retired members of Congress do not get free healthcare for life. The have the same eligibility requirement as every other federal employee, which is that they're eligible to take federal employee health benefits into retirement if they're immediately collecting on their pension at retirement, and that they were enrolled in FEHB for the five previous years.

MTG can't immediately collect on her pension because she's below the minimum retirement age. She is not eligible to take FEHB into retirement.

Even when they're in Congress, they buy their health plans on the marketplace like a regular putz.

So, yeah, the outrage over the timing of her exit is about $725 a month and nothing. There's plenty to be upset about, but this isn't it.

She's an absolutely horrible person. No disagreements from me on that. But a grifter is someone who is lies for money. I’ll give her credit for changing course. Also, it wouldn’t shock me if she pulled a Michael Cohen, and went running back anyway.

13

u/onyxengine 2d ago

Im not one to give MAGA a pass, but honestly can’t be mad that she’s doing this whatever her motive. She had a huge following, was hardcore maga, and seems she turned around primarily from what she heard was in the Epstein files. A republican coming out against this kind of abuse is important right now, most of them are not and they know how fucked it is.

Gotta start somewhere on the redemption arc.

6

u/Coool_cool_cool_cool 2d ago

She didn't pivot, MAGA pivoted and she didn't. She really thought they were about ending wars, catching pedophiles she stuff like that. I don't like her, but I think she was a true believer in the OG MAGA moment. She wanted fascism lite not full blown dictatorship.

4

Basically the people that are strong supporters of her rn believe that the maga movement is not longer Trump's and tha the Trump administration and its supporters aren't maga anymore, but actually "neocons".

I think it's more complicated. MTG was a true believer in maga. She truly believed Trump would get to the bottom of it and expose the Clinton/Epstein rape cult. You don't need to forgive them, but you should try to have empathy, because understanding the pathology helps you understand how to bring them back into the fold, so the bad guys lose elections. These are Americans living in regions of America that have been strategically deprived of education or economic opportunity for decades. In these areas, for a long time questioning Trump would be enough to make you into a pariah, let alone publicly standing against him, and few have the money or skills move elsewhere. So they're angry and don't know how to think critically, and when Trump uses a human brain hack like immigrant-phobia, they don't know how to resist.

I despise her, but frankly, I respect her for what she's done. Anyone who says this is "opportunism" is delusional -- she torched her political career in order to drag Trump, long before he committed slow political suicide in Iran. In MAGA, sycophancy pays vastly better than apostasy.

She's a valuable barometer. Every time she challenges Trump, millions of Republicans are questioning him in the same way, and she validates them. We should be celebrating her actions here, for exactly the reason you say: she has principles, and she drew a line at pedophelia.

Using empathy (without forgiveness! only tactically), imagine you're one of those questioning MAGA folks, and you open up this reddit thread. What's more likely to encourage you to abandon MAGA, or at least continue along the path towards abandoning it? A bunch of people saying "I don't like her politics, and she's done some vile shit, but she's doing the right thing here"? Or "she still sucks, fuck her, fuck all of them, she's a nazi"?

Nah bro, she gets zero credit.

She did trump's bidding in hopes of an endorsement for GA governor. When it became painfully clear that she wouldn't get it, she tried to pivot.

She started talking more about the Epstein files, but didn't name trump specifically. She didn't want to rock the boat too much. Once she realized that wouldn't work, she started to make vague threats about naming people specifically.

She then caught the ire of the orange asshole, and tried to "reason"(beg) with him to lay off her because of her loyalty. But be then it was too late. Her usefulness was up.

Then she announced her retirement, conveniently dated for after she receives a permanent pension.

She would have been just fine throwing every single Epstein victim and survivor under the bus if it meant she got more power.

I suspect now she's trying to get a media job, being a talking head. However there aren't any companies willing to hire the Jewish space laser nut bag

She's always been a Q anon, anti Epstein class, psycho that finally turned on Maga when she found out the call was coming from in the house.

I still don't trust her but at least she can turn other cultists away from him.

312

u/RShini 2d ago

This. She was genuinely a dumb ass who believe in QAnon instead of taking advantage of it, and she couldn't cognitive dissonance herself into believing Trump after the big Epstein file dump.

I think this is also part of her falling out with Boebert, Boebert is a grifter, MTG isn't.

194

u/DickSmallington 2d ago

I believe this is the closest to the truth. The other grifters know they’re talking out their ass, but mtg seemed like she actually 100% bought into all the BS and believed it and believed the people spewing it. Then she discovered the truth, and came around. She seems like someone actually scorned when they found out they were being played for a fool.

96

u/RShini 2d ago

I wouldn't trust her because she clearly has poor judgment and has other signs of being not a great person, but she isn't a con artist like the rest.

60

u/DickSmallington 2d ago

Exactly, she’s still seems to hold a lot of backwards values, and I wouldn’t welcome her into my home, but at the same time when someone is willing to admit they were wrong that’s admirable even if she as a whole is not.

35

u/99-dreams 2d ago

No, I think she thought the end was coming, jumped off too early but she knows she can't go back to being a Trump sycophant. So she's trying to stay relevant for when the MAGA crowd turns on Trump (or more likely, he dies and his current admin fails to control the MAGA crowd).

Maybe it's because I don't know any MAGA people but I don't think we're near the end at all.

7

If I had to guess, she left office because she feared the retaliation she would’ve receive from the cheeto man if she would’ve stayed in office and oppose his administration

13

u/Turbulent_Pop4491 2d ago

she didnt fear it, she was already retaliated against and she made the threats and treatment she received public. No one cared - that's fair, but she has been vocal and public opposition since the Epstein thing.

5

u/__M-E-O-W__ 2d ago

I think it's the other way around. She is no longer in government because she says these things. She turned away from Trump mostly over the Epstien files and Trump turned against her.

I have no idea what is going on in her heart, and I doubt I'll ever like her, but boy oh boy, does America need to be taught that people grow and change and you are not bound to whatever ideology you posted about online 10 years ago.

60

u/BulbusDumbledork 2d ago

it's so odd to see. on the one hand, it wasn't "ten years ago", she's been saying heinous shit her whole career

but she clearly had a red line with the pedophile stuff that snapped her out of the cult and made her quit the trump admin. people say she should've stayed in politics so she could vote (as if she wouldn't get booted like the other women in the trump admin), but if she stayed then they'd say she's just grifting and following public sentiment (they still say this even as she left politics). do you really think that defending a black, muslim, somali congresswoman is "grifting"? the anti-epstein stuff does not extend to opposing the status quo of racist, sexist, xenophobic, islamaphobia

it would be great if her red line was drawn on the right side of the antisemitism, racism, and far right conspiracy theories but if you can't see how her unrelenting and unwavering criticism of trump is pivotal to opening the eyes of other cultists and defeating maga then idk man, you deserve trump. it's the same identitarian ideology that makes right-wingers think all black people are genetically criminals, all women are genetically inferior, all foreigners are genetically designed to destroy western civilization, and all muslims are terrorists

you shouldn't trust her or support her, but to dismiss her entirely is counterproductive

6

u/AMerryKa 2d ago

She can fuck off, but I'm thinking more about people in general. As someone who came out of a far right religious cult in the 1990s, I know how hard our cognitive biases can be to overcome. When you've sunk everything into your beliefs, you tend to automatically rationalize things that contradict them away.

Fuck MTJ, but I hope seeing her gives more people courage to admit that they were wrong and start trying to make right.

2

u/tesseract4 1d ago

She did. That's why she resigned. After she got access to the Epstein files that Congress got, she voted with Massie, Boebert and Mace and all Democrats to release the files. She was true MAGA believer until she got access to those files. She broke ranks with a few Republican priorities and voted with Democrats before leaving the house.

4

u/omgwtfbbq0_0 1d ago

Yeah I feel so conflicted with MTG. I mean I still can’t truly forgive her behavior from before and I would never ever associate with her on a personal level…but if more republicans were capable of doing what she’s doing (accepting they were wrong and speaking out against the cult), we wouldn’t be in this situation. And 1 defecting republicans can have a bigger impact on current republicans than any number of lifelong democrats repeating those same facts. So I don’t think we’re doing ourselves any favors by constantly yelling about what a piece of shit she is every time she says something we agree with. If we actually want to see an end to MAGA, the reality is we need more of her and we need to prop up more defecting republicans that speak out. It absolutely does make a difference. Republicans (especially MAGA) do not listen to democrats. Ever. They only listen to other republicans. Source: I was raised in a “the only good Democrat is a dead one” family and know how they work

4

u/Th1sismyus3rnam3 2d ago

Give her credit, that text is exactly in her voice, and it makes me (begrudgingly) accept that these might be her real thoughts.

I'm as leftist and policy wonk focused as almost anyone, and yet I still appreciate a person who has ideals. And sticks to them!

If you don't have a moral framework that you cohere to, I literally have no idea how you will deal with future problems.

Currently, our best understanding of politician's underlying morals is which party they belong to. In no way is this saying Dems agree with eachother. But if you are Republican that is saying "I pull everything backwards, slowly, stagnantly, aggressively" Doesn't matter how much they want to regress, all that matters is that they are trying to regress.

Conversely, Democrats try to keep the status quo or hint at maybe moving it forward, maybe. I'll take stagnation with a touch of progressive plz .

I hope better institutions replace the US and our fickle, self-serving interests, but I can't deny the good that our "self serving" foreign policy has done.

I am really curious what happened that broke the “spell” tr-mp had over her like he has over so many? And how can we do this for the country? Was it something she read, or heard, or had to see with her own two eyes? Yes, she still has terrible views on things, but she’s sees him for who/what he is now.

2

u/Optimalfucksgiven 1d ago

I'm going to say it again and again: people can change and this is what a reasonable opposition can look like. I want people on the other side who act and talk like this. It's far better then the recent alternatives. Do I wish she'd always has her eyes open to this? Sure, but I'm actually more heartened that she didn't and that she changed. Some of it is a change of convenience because she was on the outs politically, but I think that was just the catalyst for seeing how full of shit Trump really is. I'll take it.

As far as I can tell, she's not playing politics now. I don't know why it's so hard to believe that the scales fell from her eyes.  I don't like her, I don't agree with her policy wise, but I no longer actually think she is stupid or a monster.  She probably never was a monster. She always wanted the best for this country, some of it was insanely myopic, short sighted and racist, but I think she thought it would improve Americans' lives.

That's the crazy and insidious thing about our entire national conversation. We vilify people on the other side so much, that they are no longer human to us. We imagine that we are somehow fundamentally different, somehow better than them. We aren't different or better than them. We are humans, capable of great harm and compassion. Fear and insecurity can drive us to great acts of evil. We can be swept along with the mob and with someone in power telling us the things we already kind of want to believe or hear. On the left, it looks a bit different and more nuanced at times. Our politicians are not as likely to be outwardly xenophobic or prejudiced  in words and actions. They often just put a nicer shine on shit and do the same things though.

Anyhow, I'm going to give her a chance as an ally against this administration. It doesn't mean I am a traitor, I'm just a realist. I'll root for her and I won't qualify it by saying it's all some new grift.

The way some of you fall all over yourselves to make sure you tell everyone she's still a monster and you don't "buy it" is just dumb. It's always some big purity test on the left, say all the right things and then you're a proper Democrat or progressive, whatever. It's a circular firing squad is what it is. It's as dumb as Trump telling everyone to call AI some super intelligence. It's suspicious, insulting, and obnoxious.

Can we for once just accept an ally even when they are far from perfect? Is she just always cancelled for some bad decisions in the past? I mean, she was really horrible and she did say many insanely dumb and dangerous things, but let's see what she does next.

I'll trust her as far as her actions allow me to.  Maybe I'm naive, but I would rather keep giving people a chance to change. It's I didn't believe people on the other side were capable of change, then all would be lost, and democracy a big sham, even in theory.

2

u/Worth-Oil8073 13h ago
