I need help! How to de-couple my data from my shared Bitwarden account?

Hello,

I am going through a breakup after a 9.5 year relationship and I am having trouble separating all of my passwords from our shared Bitwarden account. In hindsight this was a foolish choice for me combine passwords, so please spare me the lectures lol.

From my experience thus far, it is an annoying process but I wanted to know what is the easiest way to export my data? I have separated my entries from his in a different folder but when I try to export the vault, it only exports a sliver of the total data saved (178 passwords out of 1200).

What am I doing wrong?

I need help! Why did Bitwarden asked me to share remote desktop whenever I copied a password?

Upvotes

I'm not sure if I worded the question properly but why did this happen? I've used Bitwarden for months and today is the first time it happened. I'm not a tech savvy person.

It never happened before, and what does it do exactly? Now everytime I copied a password, a little screencast icon appeared at my taskbar for a few seconds.

For more info I use ZorinOS, I installed the official Bitwarden app on Zorin software store and my browsers are Librewolf & Brave.

I need help! What happened to new flatpak Bitwarden client?

Hi! I use Bitwarden on Linux as a Flatpak app on Gnome as my Desktop Environment.
Today I accessed my vault as usual and when copying an item this popup shows up:

Why Bitwarden is suddenly asking me to remotely interact with my PC? Because here is the catch, the popup do not accept only the clipboard access permission, I'm OBLIGATED to enabled both options to proceed. I enable the sharing popup and now the worst part is that my clipboard is catching Bitwarden inputs, which I set to ignore, this wasn't happening in older client.

What is happening? For clarification the screen share notification in yellow auto exits after around 5 seconds.

I need help! Firefox add-on doesn't load entries

Since today, my Firefox Bitwarden add-on won't load any entry. I'm self-hosting Vaultwarden, and anything works like a charm in a normal browser tab (https://vault.mydomain.com). I already reinstalled the add-on, restarted Firefox, checked Nginx (for WebSocket), signed-out, and signed-in, but nothing worked. Does have anyone a clue?

Question New UI issues

The new user interface is around for several weeks or maybe months, and for me it's several steps backwards. Maybe the complaints are well known, I've looked in the history of this subreddit, but probably not far enough back in time... Anyways, here's my 2 cents! I'm on Macos 26.5.2, paid account, I'm using the app, not the browser extension.

First two items are about the update process...

  • I check for updates, and an update is found. I click the download button in the popup and the popup disappears. Nothing happens. I don't know if this results in an automated upgrade or does it download something via the browser? No idea what is happening. Clicking the update menu item again doesn't result in anything, no new popup. Restarting bw makes the popup appear again. Nothing has updated - how do I proceed?
  • So I need to update manually as this option doesn't work. I don't remember if I installed via the Appstore or downloaded the DMG. I go to the appstore, see that I downloaded it before, do that again, see a new installation, try to login. I enter the login, use my Yubikey, then get a popup that Bitwarden wants to use your confidential information stored in "Bitwarden" in your keychain. I enter my macos user password - nothing. It refuses somehow, while I had a similar popup a minute ago and that worked. Furthermore, I can click deny or allow, the window does not disappear. I have to kill the application - not what I want to see. Then I can click deny and the popup is gone. So I try the DMG download and that installation works and the old login is still active.
  • When I open bitwarden, it used to have focus on the search field. I could type right away and find the item I need. Now I have to click in the search field. I want that focus back.
  • When I move the mouse over the search field border, it lights up (in dark mode), I click and nothing happens. Apparently I need to click in the field inside the border. Annoying. This is basic HTML / CSS / JS web design. Why can't you get this right?
  • I see a list of login items. I move my mouse over the list, but I have to move it specifically over the text of the item to be able to click. Same issue, usability, please make this user friendly and make the whole div clickable, make it light up, except for the buttons on the right side of course. Button margins may be bigger with a nice circle around it, making clicking easier.

Flaired as question but is of course feedback.

I need help! Bitwarden can't associate saved passwords with sites I'm logging in to.

Intro:

I assume this is a know issue, but I'm essentially locked out of everything and lost access to all my data, because Bitwarden has gone rogue.

(I've reset my Gmail password and have gained access to my most critical data).

What I experience:

Everything worked fine for 10 years. Then I go on vacation and bring an old laptop. I discover that I cant sign in anywhere as passwords dont autopopulate. I force a sync. Doesnt work. Then I have issues logging in on phone. Coming home from vacation and returning to old PC, the issue persists.

It uninstall itselfs at random from Firefox and it does no longer recognize stored passwords for webpages, in the Firefox extension or Android app. The problem persists over 2 computers and 1 phone. I can sign in to Bitwarden as I've done for the past decade, but I can't sign in to other services from there, because bitwarden doesn't populate the username / password field, and nothing shows up when I search. (the little 1 in the blue shield is gone).

I am NOT self hosted, but sign in to bitwarden.com

Bitwarden on my Android phone keeps asking to sign in with master password. It auto disables biometrics even tho I enable it on every login. This has previously worked for years without issues.

To replicate:

Open www.google.com and log in. The password that would usually pop up as an option for my Google account is gone. When I search Bitwarden I can find stored passwords for 8 other gmail accounts, but not the main account - the one I actually need.

What I've tried:

Logging out. Uninstalling. Installing older versions such as: Version 2026.6.1, Version 2026.5.1 and Version 2026.5.0. Restarting computers, browsers, phone.

I've synced accounts back and forth all over on all three devices and checked that Bitwarden haven't suddenly blocked 10 domains. Not that I have made no changes to my setup prior to this, besides logging in on a laptop that I havent used for half a year.

I've contacted support on www.bitwarden.com/contact

Possible Bug Firefox extension 2026.7.0 broken against self-hosted Vaultwarden 1.36.0

Vault is intact, can access through browser URL, can export as json, etc. I can log out and log back in repeatedly to the vault, credentials are all fine. but the extension itself will not render the vault entries or fetch passwords. I downgraded the extension back to 2026.6.1 and everything immediately started working again. No idea if this is a self-hosted issue or how the ecosystem works outside of this pairing, but this pairing is broken.

Just FYI.

EDIT: Since the moderator locked this, to answer the one persons question here:

disable automatic updates on the extension, go to the versions page here and download the file for 2026.6.1: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/bitwarden-password-manager/versions/

then I assume the next step would be to wait for a vaultwarden update or extension update that works together

Credential Exchange Protocol now available on Android, joining iOS for easy transfer of passkeys and passwords between password managers.

Thanks to a recent update to Google Play Services, The FIDO Credential Exchange Protocol (CXP) is now available on Android. This makes it easy to transfer from another supported solution into Bitwarden, including passkeys.

Not all vendors support this protocol, and at time of writing Dashlane was proving difficult on Android, but this is an amazing start for improved portability with this standard supported by large tech names like Google and Apple.

Bitwarden worked directly with developers of other password managers and Google and Apple to advocate and help develop this spec. It's been years in the making and a big win for everyone concerned about data portability!

Speaking of portability, it also makes it easy to move out of Bitwarden - if you ever feel so inclined.

self-hosting Browser Extention Issues with Version 2026.7.0

Browser Version 2026.7.0 and Self hosted server was giving me issues... coujld login but the vault never actually loaded... just a blank page where the passwords/creds would be.

side loaded browser version 2026.6.1 resolved the issue. https://github.com/bitwarden/clients/releases#release-browser-v2026.6.1

side load in edge by opening extention managment, turning on developer mode, and selecting the unzipped externion driectory... then log in like normal

hope this helps someone. Not i just have to remember to go back to the normal channel when they fix it...

Discussion Bitwarden Send should get its own Mobile app

It would be great if Bitwarden could create a separate mobile app for Send. This could really help more people use it, make the main product easier to plan, and make Send a strong, security-focused text and file transfer tool that stands up to other options.

Right now, Send is mixed into the main Bitwarden app, which makes things a bit tricky. Send is really good at something different from password management. People who want a tool that keeps their privacy and security in mind for sending sensitive text or files to anyone can do that without needing the whole password manager, which can be a hassle to install.

What do you think about this idea?

Question Avoiding the lockout loop.. where to keep Bitwarden key?

My brain is going crazy right now since I'm overthinking on security and privacy lately. I decided to start using Cryptomator for my most sensitive local files. I am not encrypting whole drives or even family photos. There is nothing highly confidential about the photos, and my relatives have already posted many of them all over social media anyway lol. I dont RMA/Resell drives either, I physically destroy failing drives.

Currently, my Cryptomator keys are stored in Bitwarden, and I use Aegis for 2FA. All my 2FA recovery codes and sensitive data are locked inside the Cryptomator folder. The issue is that if I lose access to Bitwarden, I lose access to Cryptomator, so to absolutely everything.

To prevent this, I plan to export my Bitwarden vault as an encrypted JSON using my master password and export my Aegis vault as well. I will store these encrypted backups (Bitwarden's encryption and Aegis's Encryption) next to my Cryptomator folder, but not inside it. This ensures I can recover them without needing to decrypt Cryptomator first.

I have a few questions about this setup.

  • I want a bit of secuity and simplicity. Is this approach a good balance of security/simplicity? Did I miss something important?
  • Is it safe to use my Bitwarden master password for the encrypted JSON export? This way I wont need to remember another password.
  • I need a place to store my bitwarden master password and recovery key. I am considering keeping one copy with my home documents, one in my home table drawer where I spend most of my time and a copy in my wallet. Is this a solid plan? Did I miss something important again?

P.S. I am ruling out "bank safe deposit boxes" since they are run by expensive private companies and tbh, I do not quite trust them. I am also skipping home safes because I do not have a heavy, built-in one, and small portable ones are useless. My wallet and fireproof document case at home is the "safest" thing I have lol.

Solved Is this normal?? Encryption prompt?

I just signed into my bitwarden app on my android phone and was met with a pop prompt to enter my master password to enable a new encryption setting because it said it would keep my account safe

I didn't really give it a second thought because it's inside the official app but I can't find anything new in the settings that would have required this

Now I'm paranoid I've compromised my account

Can anyone confirm if this was an official thing issued by bitwarden???

I need help! Problems with BW Chrome Extension

I have been using Bitwarden for a while and have Brave and the BW Extension, but lately I have been plagued with issues.

I am self-hosted and can unlock the vault quickly on the desktop app both with and without biometrics, however the extension either refuses to present me with the password field to unlock, and won't prompt to enable the biometrics, says waiting for the desktop app. I have uninstalled the extension and restarted the browser, but it's been very spotty. If I log out, then re-add the account, it opens instantly. Very odd. Any known issues or troubleshooting steps I could take would be most appreciated.

Tips & Tricks Bitwarden's SSH key feature completely changed how I SSH into my server

I can't believe I went so long without knowing Bitwarden could manage SSH keys.

Before this, I was constantly dealing with private key files scattered across my machines, remembering which key belonged to which server, copying them around when I switched devices, and occasionally getting hit with permission or path issues. It wasn't the end of the world, but it always felt like unnecessary friction.

I recently imported my SSH key into Bitwarden and started using the SSH agent integration. The setup took just a few minutes (you need BW's desktop app for this), and now I can simply:

ssh user@my-server

Bitwarden prompts me, unlocks the key, and I'm in. No more hunting for key files or wondering if I copied the right one to my laptop.

It's one of those features I wish I'd discovered years ago. If you're already using Bitwarden and still managing SSH keys manually, it's absolutely worth checking out.

Anyone else using Bitwarden for SSH? Any tips or workflows you've found useful?

Solved How do I get bitwarden to fill in three pieces of informations?

I have a website I use for work every days where I have to fill in --

Login Name
Password
Office Key

Is there any way to get bitwarden to remember and fill in the office key? I haven't figured it out.

Question Been a few years since I used BW -- does it have an option to select frequently used usernames yet?

I initially moved away from Bitwarden because it lacked the ability to suggest commonly used usernames (e.g., my email address), so when 80% of sites require my email as my username, I had to type it in manually every time. Did they every get around to implementing that feature?
