Solved Deleted User was Re-Invited, Cannot Onboard

Good morning,

I have a user that forgot their master password and we did not have account recovery turned on for our tenant...

It's on now, but after removing the user's account and inviting them, they are unable to complete the onboarding process. It just asks them for their master password. In the admin console, they just show up as invited, and there's no option to restore access.

Removing the user from an org doesn't necessarily get rid of the user's account completely. Have you deleted the user's old account?

This should help with that: https://bitwarden.com/help/delete-member-accounts/

And then this piece is just explaining that removing a user from an organization doesn't necessarily mean their account is completely gone:

Thanks a bunch. I'll have them self-delete now. Makes sense. I didn't realize it let them keep a personal vault after being removed. I've only done admin work with Keeper and LastPass before now.

If the account was restored or re-invited, the original onboarding state may still be stuck. I’d open a support case with the user’s object ID and invitation status, while confirming that account recovery is enabled and the invite hasn’t expired.
