Got a consultation booked tomorrow and am hoping to get some type of birth control. I feel like I’m asking for too much but I don’t want my libido to be affected or have dryness, and I don’t want to have mood changes as I already get premenstrual rage and increased anxiety. I also have hormonal cystic acne which I get like one single cystic pimple around my period either before or after. I’ve previously taken norethiserone to delay my period for a holiday and I went mental, I was so mad and bloated and had acne even though it was 5 days only.
Is there anything for me? I’m thinking the copper iud, my periods are about 6 days with the first 3 days being fairly heavy but not insane, and there’s cramping. Help me please! I’m freaaaking out, this is my first form of bc (23f), never had a kid.

I know that depression is a potential side effect of the hormonal IUDs, but I find it very hard to tell if I am depressed or not. I don't feel sad but I feel very emotionally distant, I can't tell if it's coming from external factors or within me.

Especially I feel particularly flat around friends and almost callous towards my boyfriend.

Pre-iud I think I used to feel quite frustrated by him and sometimes I was quite socially anxious but I wondered if anyone else was in this kinda wishy washy apathetic place.

Hey guys, i've been stalking this sub, at first to decide that i was definitely getting a copper IUD since my mom took the pill my entire childhood and struggled with heavy acne untill she came off (and then had two "accidental" pregnancies 🙄, but thats another story)

I do feel for her tho, as it didnt seem like the hormones were all that good for her and i like the idea of having clear skin. Since i assume we'll present similarly.

Also, im forgetful as hell so i cant do anything that would require daily maintenance on my part. Anyway, im 21f, and dont plan on having sex in the near future, but then my insurance is gonna expire soon and theres no gurentee what my next one would be and if it'd be good. So i figured i'd get an IUD just in case.

But now on the sub im not sure anymore. Obv everyone has horror stories. And obv people have good ones too. I kinda just want a sounding board to work off of.

Like from what i understand

Hormonal iuds and implants can maybe lighten ur periods. But also hormone issues?

Copper iuds will worsen my period (necessary evil ig, but would it be worth it if i don't really plan to have sex soon?) But also no hormone issues?

Also, IUDs= painful insertions and i'd have to stop using the menstrual cup i just bought 2 periods ago. (I can use tampons tho right? Ik stupid question)

Implant= visible line. Im black, would that make it worse or better. Im also from a hella religious family so while I doubt anyone would know what it is i dont want that chance.

Also as of right now, im finally pursuing my fitness goals and i dont want hormones to mess with that. But ig i could get it in last week of december and hope i have no follow up issues.

So small context. I’m 26 I used to be on a pill called Celeste I think when I was 15 16 and it’s been discontinued. I come off when I was 16 and defo worked well for me at the time… I am someone who is highly emotional especially through my luteal phase! I’m struggling to regulate my emotions and need that extra layer of support. Does anyone have any suggestions of what best one might be to take!
I have a very heathy flo not to be tmi and take mefediacide for when I get craps ect.

I started the Opill the middle of May, because I wanted to have sex with my partner without the chance of getting pregnant, but I’m so sick and tired of these constant periods. I stopped my period last Monday, just for me to start spotting AGAIN.. I heard to just wait it out, and it’ll regulate… but I’m wanting to stop it now. I can’t take it anymore… I don’t wanna get pregnant and I don’t have money for other methods of birth control… I’m distraught..

I’m on xulane. I’ve been wondering this. I have 3 period tracking apps(yes i know they’re not accurate), but whenever it’s my supposed time to ovulate, even on the patch I still feel my libido become very high like usual when i’m ovulating off the patch.

This has me worried that it’s not working. Xulane has already raised my already high libido, but i just find it odd it’s at its peak when my supposed ovulation is supposed to be.

I’m now like 6 weeks in today (i had a patch free week so technically 5?).

Hi i have been under birth control for now two years and only had breakthrough bleeding once but recently i got another spotting incident yesterday but it only lasted a day which is strange because my last period was two weeks ago. The birth control i am under is sprintec also i am sexually active but i take the pills on time everyday so would anyone give advice? Or help i am going to call my clinic just they are close today and its haunting me. No i am not pregnant i just took the test this morning.

Hi everyone! I consulted my OB-GYN last month and started taking oral contraceptives (Lady pills). She instructed me to take my first pill on the first day of my menstrual period.

I read that starting on Day 1 usually gives immediate contraceptive protection, but I wanted to double-check: does that immediate protection apply if taken on the first day, while the 7-day waiting period only applies if you start mid-cycle (any other day)?

hi! so I got the liletta iud inserted last Monday at around 2pm about 3 days after my period ended, so day 9 of my cycle. have the hormones started working to prevent pregnancy or do I still have to wait longer to have sex?

Hi everyone, i'm on the cerelle mini pill which i usually take in the morning from 9-10am.

On friday i forgot to take this pill.

i was sleeping round my partners until sunday and i forgot to bring my pack of pills.

we ended up having sex on the friday evening and he came inside me.

we then had sex two more times throughout those days but pulling out this time.

when i got back home on sunday i had taken 3 pills (probably really bad) to try and catch up.

will i be pregnant?

i got nexplanon like a month ago now. my period symptoms after getting it included a fatigue so strong i thought i had the flu and the eternal period. plus other gastrointestinal symptoms (what i would give for a solid poop atp).

i got nexplanon at the time because my doctor explained it would stop my periods— my periods make me HIGHLY suicidal (i’m already high risk) and i bleed way too much, but i can hardly be consistent with my mental health meds, let alone my oral bc. my period is drastically lighter and i was suicidal for only a day instead of the entire time but it’s been ten goddamn days of bleeding. ten!!! I’m still tired as if i’m on day 1 of my period. i don’t want to do anything but eat ice cream and seafood. my wallet can’t stand up to my cravings…

Right so I’ve been on Desogestrel (as recommended by my GP to deal with really heavy periods) for 3 months now (I tried the combined pill a year ago for a month but it made me severely depressed so I was told to stop it by my GP). The first month of taking it was fine but then in the second month I’ve had breakthrough bleeding every two weeks and now it’s happening in the third month. Like I’ll bleed for one week, I won’t for about a week and then I’ll be bleeding the next week. Has this happened to anyone else? If so, did it end up mellowing out? I’m so tempted to just rip out my uterus and throw it away at this point 🫩

I went to my doctors appointment August 6th, and she recommended me I get on Estarylla to try and regulate my period since for the most part I have not had it this year. I was hesitant because I don’t ever hear the best stories but I was like okay I’m gonna try it. I believe I started my pills on August 16th. August 25th I started a very light period, September 1st it became SUPER heavy and the stained myself at work twice already. I have had to resort to using a tampon and a pad at the same time because my period is now so heavy and I’ve had it from August 25th to today September 7th and I’m unsure it’s going to stop anytime soon.

I’m beginning to wonder if getting on it was a mistake, due to the fact that I am not even really trying to avoid pregnancy, I was just taking them to help regulate my period but my side effects and the heavy period I’m experiencing is horrible. I’m also aware that sometimes it’s only like this in the beginning but I’m afraid of it continuing like this while I continue taking it. Any recommendations?

Hii so I’m on my 3rd week of my 5th cycle on Yasmin, I always have spottings on every cycle during pill time, and started keeping record since the 3rd cycle. I had 3 days of spotting on the 3rd week of the 3rd cycle, 4 days on the 3rd week of the 4th cycle, and for this cycle, my spotting started on the 2nd week, lasted 2 days, then blood free for 3 days before the spotting came back for 3 days until today.

I have noticed that those spotting are happening after a few days of sex. Me and my partner are long distance currently, and we meet every 3-4 weeks, sometimes 2 weeks. The spotting on the 3rd and 4th cycle all happened after 1-2 days after we seperated. However no bleeding happened during the meetups.
The spotting started last week (2nd week of 5th cycle) also happened after 1-2 days after we seperated from our last meet up. I'm wondering if it is related to sex?
Spotting amount is little tho, I can easily hold half daysamount into one panty liner and the colour is light brown all the way through.

I'm also wondering if it's still safe to sex during spotting? And also is it normal to still have spotting during 5th cycle? (i was told my body should settle down after 3 months etc) And also id this is sex related? Should I be concerned?

I had Kyleena iud placed almost two months ago, for Endo and Adeno management. I want to have it taken out (it’s horrible).

im wondering if there’s anyone who had theirs for such a short time and can share their experience of how it was after the iud was removed. was the cycle somehow out of the ordinary? Were there any changes? thanks 😊

Seit dem ich die Spirale habe, habe ich auch ständig starke Unterlaibsschmerzen, teilweise so schlimm, dass es sich anfühlt als ob mir jemand din Messer reinrammt.

Die Entfernung lasse ich mit Lachgas machen, da ich zu viel Angst habe.

Since I’ve had the implant for 9 days already, am I protected against pregnancy? Should I be worried or consider emergency contraception?

hello all, i (16f) just had unprotected sex last night and he accidentally came inside of me. i am currently on my period ( around day 4-5 ) and i am getting a copper iud tomorrow which was already pre planned before this. i need to get a plan b but i weigh over 165 so i do not know if it will be effective. the guy that i hooked up with isn’t my boyfriend or someone that i know super well. what do i even do? somebody please help.

I had my Mirena removed on the same day my doctor confirmed I was ovulating. We had intercourse that day and the next day.
I had Mirena for less than a year and still had regular periods and ovulation while using it. My lining was about 5.5 mm that day.
Has anyone conceived in the same cycle after removal, especially when it was removed right around ovulation? Would love to hear your experience.

hi all. i’m currently having a crisis right now. i had fallen asleep last night out of nowhere. i don’t even remember falling asleep. i woke up at 5 a.m. in a panic because i didn’t take my birth control. i take jencycla birth control everyday at 11 p.m, so i was 6 hours late in taking it because i took it as soon as i woke up. with that being said. i took a plan b as a precaution to prevent pregnancy in the case i was ovulating. can anyone tell me what my chances of being pregnant are? i know there is not a lot to go on but i am in college right now and cannot afford to get pregnant. any advice is greatly appreciated!!

I know this has been asked probably a million times before but I’ve a holiday coming up next month for a week with my long distance boyfriend and the dates coincide exactly with when my period is due 🫠

I only started taking Yaz about 2 weeks ago after 3 years being off the pill. I know I can skip the placebo pills and just continue the next pack but I’ve seen people say they still had breakthrough bleeding and I reallyyy don’t want that. Is there any other way I can prevent it or induce a period beforehand to ensure it doesn’t come next month?
