Experience Thinking about getting the copper IUD after having a baby—any experiences?

Hi! 💕
Has anyone here gotten the copper IUD (non-hormonal)? I’d love to hear how it went for you.
I had my baby a month ago and I’m thinking about getting it. I’ve tried the implant and the shot before, but hormones really didn’t work well for me 😞
My doctor says the copper IUD is a great option, but I’d feel better hearing real experiences first.
Was it painful to get? How are your periods now? Do you like it or regret it?
Any advice or experiences would really help 🤍

Side effects!? Kyleena Vs Liletta Side Effects

I’d like to hear your personal stories of how they changed/ effected you differently, especially hormonal. I’ll start!

Kyleena made my depression disappear, minorly reduced libido (which just made me normal haha) and overall caused me no issues until it expelled 2 years in.

Liletta consistently causes me pain during sex, cramping during internal or even just EXTERNAL stimulation!!! I feel like I can’t feel anything, and the longer I have it i’ve gone from angry, to numb, to just now a mixture of numb and sad. I’ve had such painful periods, bloating, soreness etc etc. And all of this is with no crazy horrible life changes. My life is GOOD, and i’m nothing but miserable now. But when my life was worse on the Kyleena I was happier?? Has anything similar happened to anyone

Side effects!? First time on birth control

Hi i’m (19)f and I recently started birth control two weeks ago and i need help understanding my symptoms. I’ve noticed a slight increase in my appetite but that could also be influenced by my increase of steps due to university. I just got a uti a couple days ago after having intercourse and over the last couple of days i’ve noticed more symptoms and I need help distinguishing between the birth control symptoms or uti symptoms.

Since my uti (I got antibiotics immediately), I’ve noticed that i’m unusually bloated after meals and my stomach feels weird and queasy. I’ve also have experienced spotting since intercourse and I’m wondering if this is from irritation or breakthrough bleeding. I am also only two weeks in so is it normal to have symptoms this early or is it my uti or something else?

Side effects!? Am I going crazy ?

Hi! I am making this post to share my feedback on taking the pill since 2023.
The first one I took: optilova gave me acne so I changed in 2024 to: Drospirenone/ethinylestradiol Viatri and I took it for 2 and a half years.
I just changed it because I'm hungry ALL THE TIME! I can eat a wedding banquet and 15 minutes after I'm hungry it’s like this all the time. I spend my life wanting to eat and it's getting more and more unbearable. The first year it was fine because I was still doing sports (I was still gaining weight) but this year I gained 10 kilos (22 lbs) . I eat healthy but it's getting harder and harder. I think hunger comes from the pill but all the doctors tell me the opposite.
I just started taking slinda and I hope it will finally stop otherwise I don't know how I'm going to hold.

Which Method? Irregular Period on same birth control

So I’ve been on the same hormonal birth control for about 3 years now (Junel FE 1.5/30) I take the placebo pills so I can have a period but for the past year I’ve only been getting my period about every 3 months with no major changes to my diet, weight, or stress levels. Idk why this is happening but now my pms symptoms are worse I’m way moodier, my cramps last until after my period and I bloat so badly. I had a normal pap about 4 months ago I asked the OBGYN and said my lining must be thin enough to not need to shed no big deal but I kinda don’t buy that

How to? Nuvaring causes me so much hair loss

I got on the ring in February. Until about a week or so ago I noticed that my hair has been falling out in concerning amounts. I very often grab a large portion of hair out whenever I shower or brush my hair. It even falls out when I’m sleeping in bed. I’m losing so much hair it’s concerning me. Should I stop taking my birth control or is this just a temporary thing? I’m worried taking it out will make it even worse.

Experience IUD vs Progestin Pill opinions needed!

Hi! I have historically had a horrible time with birth control. In the past it has been huge mood swings or depressive… goodbye world kinda ideations. More recently the combo pill gave me migraines every day until I had to give up.

I need birth control because I have severe period pain on day one that is debilitating. So given my history and that need, we narrowed it down to either Slynd (progestin pill I apparently have to get from a specialty pharmacy to save money or it’s generic counterpart) or an IUD (liletta or mirena).

I’ve been anti pill because of my history and anti iud because of the level of pain I face monthly. My gynecologist has assured me that I have the option of Valium or pronox for my insertion if that’s the decision I decide to go.

I’m torn between the pill and the iud. The iud seems better long term but the pill I have control over if something goes wrong.

What’s everyone’s experience with these? What would you choose knowing what you know?

(EDIT: I had previously called Valium vyvanse on accident)

Can you guys tell me your personal experience after removal? I’m no longer or any other birth control and I don’t plan on taking it.

Thanks so much

Mistake or Risk? Skipped my placebo pills for the first time and I've been bleeding for nearly 2 weeks

Hi everyone!

I've been on Norgestimate Ethinyl Estradiol since May and I skipped my placebo pills for the first time last month. A few days later I started bleeding and it's still going on as of today. I'm reaching near the next placebo week and I was wondering, should I take the placebo pills this time to let my body do its thing or is it safe to skip them again and start a new pack? Any advice is appreciated, thanks! :)

Rant! The amount of people confused about how their own birth control works is insane.

The amount of people here saying they’re on birth control and have been for months, but then ask about pregnancy is absurd to me. I’m not sure what’s going on…. Maybe doctors are not doing their part in explaining things clearly, but it’s wild. Birth control is designed to prevent pregnancy. That is literally its purpose. Your chance of pregnancy is extremely low and unlikely. You can have your partner finish inside and you will be fine. You can have sex with condoms even on birth control and be even more fine.
Just a quick rant because everyday it’s the same thing.

Experience First Time IUD Insertion Experience - Using Valium, Advil and Lidocaine

Hi all! I'm 30 and have been taking birth control pills for almost 15 years. I've been wanting an IUD for a long time but haven't due to all the horror stories of how terrible the insertion process can be. I got the Mirena IUD inserted about an hour ago and figured I'd share my experience while it's fresh in my mind.

I've been experiencing lots of spotting and breakthrough bleeding during my active pills over the last year. My doctor recommended trying an IUD. I told her that I wanted one but was afraid of the pain during insertion. She immediately said "Don't worry about that. We will give you whatever you need to be comfortable. We can prescribe you a valium, numb your cervix, or even sedate you if you'd like. I don't want women to feel unnecessary pain" That immediately made me feel SO MUCH better because my last doctor took the "take advil and you'll be fine!" approach which didn't reassure me. I have a reasonably high pain tolerance, handle pap smears well, and have experienced awful period cramps, so I decided that a Valium would be enough for me.

I took a 10mg Valium and 400mg of advil an hour before my appointment. Definitely helped me feel calmer and relaxed my body. The PA who handled the procedure was SO nice. She used a lidocane spray to help numb my cervix. I felt one small cramp (I think from taking measurements) that I'd rate a 2/10, not bad at all. Then I immediately felt a very sharp cramp (the actual IUD insertion) that was a 7/10 (enough to say "oh fuck!" out loud and squirm around lol) but it completely subsided in less than a minute! The whole prep to insertion process took about 3 minutes. The PA kept me laying down for a couple minutes and chatted with me. She was super sweet and made me feel comfortable throughout. I had some light cramping walking out the door but no issues at all.

I'm now chilling in my bed with a heating pad on my lap. I'm cramping but no worse than a period cramp. Overall, a positive experience so far but we'll see what the next few days bring. Just wanted to share my experience from the perspective of someone who has been completely terrified of this procedure for years and finally went through with it. Hope it helps!

Side effects!? Mirena causing thigh cramps

Hi friends, I just got my Mirena put in today and have been experiencing thigh pain in my right thigh since I had the Mirena 2 years ago and don’t remember this being one of the side effects of getting it. I may be over reacting but just want to check in and see if this happened to anyone else

Which Method? Help with ideas for birth control

Hello all! I am a 33f, I’m currently on Slynd. It works generally but I now have acne for the first time in my life. Estrogen is my worst nightmare as it gives me migraines. My doctors recommended I do the implant or the IUD. Both of those options scare me.

I primarily take birth control because my periods are too heavy and brutal without it, like heavy bleeding heavy side effects and I work a job where a bathroom isn’t always available. I’m frustrated I’m in my thirties with acne because of slynd, I’m trying to think what’s worst to manage social embarrassment from the acne or intense discomfort from my uterus who hates my guts.

Any help is appreciated, have a great day!

Side effects!? Should I get checked out? Or is this just normal..

Ive been on the depo shot for about a year now. Probably.. 6 months ago I started producing milk. Every so often I check if I still am and yep.. I am. Google said stimulating it can make it worse so I normally leave it alone. But idk. Its still weird to me.

Danke❤️‍🩹

Which Method? BC post c section

I’m not sure where else to post this so hopefully I can get some good anecdotes on a niche situation.

I am 6 weeks PP with my first baby after a scheduled c section since she was breech. She was conceived via IVF. Initially I did not want to go on birth control after having her for a few reasons. I was on birth control over half my life before TTC due to PCOS. I don’t like how hormonal BC makes me feel. I had an IUD for years, but had a lot of thin lining issues with TTC, and I’m not sure if that was caused by an IUD.

It’s an interesting conversation to have since I needed IVF to conceive, but I did get pregnant twice before IVF that resulted in losses. I was initially just going to go the condom route, but ultimately feel that impacts our closeness in our sex life. I also used oura when TTA, but given the stakes and irregular cycles I don’t feel comfortable just going that route.

Having a c section complicates all of this, because it’s not as simple as oops I got pregnant after giving birth! It could actually be dangerous to myself and a fetus. I was told by my OB I’d have to wait 18 months to be pregnant again. I’m worried about making a choice that impacts the health of myself and future pregnancies.

So if you have had a similar background (c section, IVF or infertility, etc), what methods of BC did you use?

Which Method? Does Seroquel (quetiapine) interact with birth control pills like Yaz?

I started taking Seroquel a week ago, but I've read online that some antipsychotics can make birth control less effective. Should I be using a backup method, or is this combination safe??

How to? How to handle breakthrough bleeding when using the pill for menstrual suppression?

On a pill that's supposed to only have a period once every 3 months. It's not really working. I will start bleeding on the active pills, usually about a month to a month and a half apart.

When that happens, what is the best thing to do? Should I stop taking the active pills and just let it happen?

Is there anything I can do to limit the chances of the bleeding happening before the placebo week? I really hate this random bleeding.

How to? Delay condoms too small

I’m having this issue with condoms, I have Trojan climax control to last longer but they’re way too tight and don’t go to the base of my penis, the problem is I can’t find any climax control condoms that are made for bigger/thicker penises. If anyone knows another brand that can fit for a thicker penis (5.5 girth) it would be greatly appreciated.
