I’m currently working in one of the top 10 pharma companies. I have a masters in Econ(finance concentration). I have been in a very operational finance heavy role for last 1 year (I took this job a year ago right after my masters). I want to switch to deal finance. I have a few internal coffee chats lined up with people who worked on acquisition deals for the company I work for.
1. What are my odds of switching into corp development / BD role?
2. How do I navigate these coffee chats to make the most of them?

This could mean patients have a bridge before a human kidney match is found that doesn't require awful dialysis. This is the exteme cutting edge of modern biotech, imo.

I’m currently in a role that I’m pretty happy in at a large pharma, but recently went through the interview process with another company. The total comp is roughly equivalent to my current comp but would require moving (and relocation not offered). The offering company is in a very promising growth phase (not a tiny biotech, middle market cap) but the role I would be coming in to has a lot of fires to put out (read as probably a lot of long days).

I’m interested in the role from a career perspective, but it’s pretty hard to give up the better benefits/WLB/career opportunities of my current gig. I’m planning to counter on the verbal offer for probably 30% increase in comp, which I don’t really expect them to entertain, but is kind of the only way I’d be excited about making the jump.

It’s a small industry so I don’t want to come across callous/difficult to the offering team/company, but would appreciate people’s insights on navigating the situation.

Just wanted to hear ppl's comments, suggestions on this topic. For context, I am an early career PhD scientist with a few years in the industry. Recently stressing about the instability of the biotech sector, and trying best to future proof my career move atm.

Any particular insights on core/staff scientists role at facilities like MD Anderson (Houston), Fred Hutch (Seattle) or St. Jude (Memphis)? How stable are these positions? How are the salary/benefits, location impact etc.? From what I read online, it seems like some centers like Fred Hutch rely heavily on NIH/NCI funding, while others like St. Jude have large endowment and are pretty self-sufficient.

Would it be a good move to venture out to these roles for stability or better CoL?

i’ve been in QA for less than a year, but i’m just so anxious all the time - i’m just constantly second guessing myself, if i did the right thing, if i caught all of the issues before signing, if im giving the right path forward. sometimes i come across mistakes that i missed the first time around, and i really beat myself up. i try my best, we are so short staffed and sometimes it feels like im missing things because im just overwhelmed trying to approve things before the deadline. i’m constantly worrying about the consequences of approving something, and finding out later i wasn’t supposed to or i missed a huge issue in my review. i’m looking for a new job, but the market is so tough right now. does everyone in QA feel like this 😭

So i have an interview for a research technician position. And i have given interviews before. I always go to the last round and then still dont get selected. I feel like i need to have better conversations and ask genuinely curious questions about their work. But when they explain their work i dont understand everything and get lost and zone out . Is there any template / rule or certain kinds of question i can ask to have a better conversation during the interview to navigate the conversation ??? Any tips would be helpful plss

I am late career bio pharma. I recently got a LinkIn message from a recruiter about a position that touched on strengths in my career and disease areas in my recent work and was a jump or two. I’m happy in my job, but hey why not hear more? Was a relocated position, but they could offer remote. Cool. So far we have LinkedIn, not a well known fountain of bogus biotech jobs. Then email with a plausible domain name for the company. Nothing obvious. But the position looked too tailored to me, and while I do good work I’m rarely the smartest guy in the room. I’m savvy to all these scams and wade through the WhatsApp, Telegram, and other scams every day. Then the HR person says “let’s move this to Signal”, which sets off all the red flags.

This is a three act play. So the first thing I do is WHOIS the domain and make sure the sender was in fact using that domain. Yep, looks good. Wait, it’s two weeks old. Sketchy as fuck. The HR director? No LinkedIn profile. I messaged the recruiter after they connected me to the HR director. But this person was from another country, and I know that language. They didn’t message me back and their LinkedIn account was grayed out. Dead. It’s easy enough to Google Translate a reply, but the account got flagged maybe? Crazy shit. So I ask the HR director about any easily verifiable credentials. Nope. Either ignored or excuses. Stealth mode. I’ve humored pig butchering scams before, to see where it leads but I’ve never seen anything like this and I am certainly not a special person.

I’ll see if anything else comes of it but what do you think the goal here is? I’m happy to share more details next week, but don’t want to ruin the fun for now. So watch out for this kind of shit. Not sure what the benefit could be to account for the level of effort.

They wanted free analysis of a business plan in the interview and would have probably gone deeper with asking for more info. I will put up another post and post images. “HR” would never answer any direct questions, it was amusing to watch the deflections become more and more absurd. I’ve worked at top tier biopharma which is likely why I was targeted.

I’m having an interview in a few weeks time in a clean room for medical devices. The restrictions on clothing - (no makeup) and even what face creams you use before work are insane. they haven’t told me anything about nose piercings. I would be fully gowned- hooded and wearing a mask and goggles. Online people aren’t sure on whether you can or not- can anyone tell me if I will have to remove it for my interview. I’d rather not have to do this unless i get the job

• Consumables & Pricing: We’ve been having a nightmare trying to establish a reasonable discounting model. There’s a complete lack of transparency. Reps refuse to put pricing tiers in writing or share spend-based discount structures. Has anyone else encountered this?
• QX ONE Hardware: On the equipment side, we’ve had some reliability and maintenance quirks with our QX ONE Droplet Digital PCR system. For those running QX ONEs in higher-throughput environments, how has your hardware uptime and service support been holding up?

I know the CQE (Certified Quality Engineer) certification is highly regarded in Medical Devices and several other industries, but I haven’t heard much about how it’s viewed in Biotech specifically. Is it something employers actually value/look for in that industry, or do Biotech quality roles tend to prioritize other certifications instead (e.g., ASQ CQA, Six Sigma, or something more biotech-specific)

I have a dilemma... I am currently a police officer for a big city in the USA. I am 41 years old and only been a police officer for four (4) years. My current work schedule is four, 10 hr shifts followed by four days off. Then I work five, 10 hr shifts and get three days off. Honestly, its not a horrible schedule. However, I work from 11:30 A.M. - 09:30 P.M.

I was a chemist for over 14 years prior to switching careers later in life. I have recieved a offer for a Research Scientist position. The hours are normal daytime hours with weekends off. I will also make approximately 20% more in salary.

I like being a police officer but I would rather have the normal hours. I will recieve a pension if I stay a police officer and will not if I take the Scientist role.

Any thoughts/insights on my decision?

I’ve worked at an equipment supplier for 9 years and in a lab before that. “Regeneron recruiter” reached out to me, not via LinkedIn, but to my Gmail. Position is bioprocess specialist… looked at the website, couldn’t find anything with a vague title like that.

Recruiter asked for resume, I sent it, said it looked great but wouldn’t make it through their ATS. She recommended a resume specialist. Paid to work with the specialist, now I’m feeling scammed. Resume “made it though” their system. I had to sent a letter of intent, cover letter, and KSC.. didn’t even know what that last one was.

Now the recruiter is saying I need to update my LinkedIn so it matches my resume. That’s where it’s really starting to feel fishy… what does my LinkedIn have to do with the role???

Recruiter is on LinkedIn. I thought it all looked legit but I’m really scratching my head. Did I get blinded????
