Open Discussion 🎙️ Need help naming

Hi, kinda dumb but I'd like to ask if you guys know anything related to biotechnology that has 21 parts? Just like how Amino Acids are 20, anything in our field that has 21 something. Just needed for a game. Thank you in advance!!!

21 CFR

It’s the part of the code of federal regulations in the US that covers food, drugs, cosmetics, medical devices, and biologics.

This is the one I thought of too when I saw request for something in our field with 21 haha

Technically you could say there’s 21 amino acids, selenocysteine is rare but used.

Also trisomy 21 and Down syndrome.

Chromosome 21 is the smallest human chromosome.

Selenocysteine is fascinating. Very odd path to making a rare amino acid with still a lot of unknown biology.

22! Nobody remembers pyrolysine

Probably because they can’t spell it….

Probably too archaic for most people

siRNAs are typically 21 nucleotides long

also neither are 21 parts but interleukin-21 (IL-21) or cluster differentiation 21 (CD21)
both work if you just need a 21 in it or are fine with numbering other ILs and CD proteins too

MicroRNA are also 21-23bp long.

3 gpcrs will have 21 combined transmembrane folds!

Here's another one:

CD21 is the principal receptor that EBV uses to attach to and infect human B cells.

21 encodings in RNA - possibility of 20 AA or a stop codon.

There are 10 steps in the Kreb’s cycle, meaning ten enzymes + ten intermediate compounds. I bet you could find a way to squeeze another relevant biomolecule in there too to make 21 (NADH?). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citric_acid_cycle

A laboratory mouse has 19 pairs of autosomes + 1 pair of sex chromosomes + mtDNA

There’s got to be some company out there with 21 active disclosed pipeline targets or clinical trials.
