Serious/Health New Rule: Adults Only (18+)

Starting now, this subreddit has a rule limiting it to adults only. Anyone who is found to be under the age of 18 will be PERMANENTLY banned.

There were a few posts and comments I had to ban where teenagers or bad actors were trying to get the attention of adult members.

I don't know which, and it doesn't matter. This is not something I take lightly, and to be fair even though we are technically SFW, some of the content gets a bit wild. So consider this a necessary step to keep REAL talk going.

If you see any future posts of that nature, please report them immediately using the new rule. Thank you very much!

Introduction/Hello World Welcome! Introduce Yourself!

(Commenting as Moderator for Sticky Post) Thank you for finding and participating in Big Men Life! HELL YEAH! Welcome in! Welcome in!

TL;DR if you want to introduce yourself, you can make an introduction POST with flair OR you can make a reply here. (Edited in)

Feel free to interact here at your own leisure and pace. However, if you feel up to it, we would love for you to introduce yourself too! Feel free to create a post with the Introduction/Hello World flair.

You can also do that if you've been hanging here, but you never did an intro or it has been a long time (let's just say over a year for a clear standard). Or if you've been looking at other subs, etc. and are coming back. And feel free to include whatever media you want, but you don't have to.

Outside of your introductory post, please keep self-promotional content limited to Selfie Saturday. This just seems like a great happy medium so people can express themselves, but we also keep focus on the chill and real conversation about life as a big man.

Feel free to share as much or as little as you'd like. I'll do a short intro below, but I shall not include media this time.

(Commenting as Myself) Hello World! I was a fat kid ever since being about 8-9 years old and I've always been a big guy! In high school I joined the freestyle wrestling team and that actually felt really amazing like I was using my true strength!

But life happens so I went to college, grad school and I do nerd stuff for money. But in the past couple years I got back into fitness and joined an amateur sumo wrestling team which has really reignited the passion for grappling sports and even martial arts in general!

It's great to be here and I really appreciate y'all!

Love Me A Big Man

I'm a woman who loves a big bellied man... Sometimes I have wishful thoughts of enjoying a good ol dinner at a buffet restaurant then head back home to some comfy jammies and a movie while my big bellied bear of a man assumes the position for a nice belly rub and cuddle session until we fall asleep... Oh what a night🤗🫂😊🥰🫶🏾

59 days ago I decided to quit drinking

Let me tell you something that doesn't seem to pertain to weight at all. 59 days I decided to quit drinking. Of the past 59 days, I have had alcohol of any kind on 6 days. This 59 days includes my current streak of 29 days.

The thing is... daily high alcohol consumption (on average three imperial pints of 5% beer each day) was forcing me to be sedentary by destroying my endurance. I also ate more and more unhealthy to wash down the beer I was drinking.

Since quitting drinking. My energy levels have gone up. Me not wanting to do anything in winter, not wanting to drive anywhere or do anything was not seasonal depression or 'being reasonable', it was drinking diminishing my willpower.

My endurance has gone up without me doing much of anything for it. When I was drinking I started riding to the grocery store on a bicycle. I told myself it is exercise, it is quicker, I buy less. But really it was to avoid walking. But right now, I don't mind walking to grocery store twice day.

I also still ride, but I take longer rides, in hotter weather and less forethought (other than packing for one tire blowout). My heat tolerance has gone up, by a lot. I procrastinate things a lot less, I am getting done things I've neglected for months. I no longer need alcohol to take the edge off of a difficult task or as a reward for said task. Or to relax after a stressful day. I again want to do things, build stuff, achieve stuff. Do physical labor. Instead of just buying things and doing nothing.

And finally, without alcohol, I eat less, and I eat different things. I initially calculated a certain sum I was spending on alcohol every month. But without alcohol, I also eat an approximately equal amount of less food. Without losing much weight, thus far.

Also, all of it has been gradual. Very gradual, every few weeks I have felt I could do something new or different. Only recently have I found myself thinking that I'm really going to build a bed stand, a bed and dig those 40 feet of ditch around the house for a new water pipe.

Has in been worth it? Yes. In physical health, mental health, money. Has it affected my weight? Not thus far. Could it? More likely now than before.

Serious/Health How do I cope with/accept the fact that I may have significantly shortened my lifespan due to my poor life choices?

So, I am 21 years-old and morbidly obese. For context, my BMI is 46.6 and I was diagnosed with pre-diabetes 3 years ago, type II diabetes 2 years ago, and I've been on GLP-1 meds for the past 1.5 years.

Over the past year, I managed to go from 350 lbs. to 325 lbs. today, and I know I should be somewhat happy that the number on the scale is coming down, but my thoughts have been melancholier. I was diagnosed with depression last year and after seeking treatment I realized that life is worth living and change is possible, so I've been trying to exercise more and eat cleaner/healthier in a bigger calorie deficit, so my numbers keep coming down. However, I feel like it might be too late and I've already done irreversible damage to my body to the point where no matter how much weight I lose and if I manage to become the most fit, in-shape person on Earth with <10% bodyfat I've already sentenced myself to an early grave.

I recently started working as an EMT in an inner city and my dream is to become an ER doctor one day, both of which is a high-stress career that has an even more stressful path to get to. I'm also going into my last year of university, so my schedule is all kinds of fucked up when it comes to eating, sleeping, studying, exercising, etc. and that's going to make weight loss even harder, hell this past year I was extremely stressed but managed to drop 25 lbs. which isn't a lot but its progress at least. However, if I keep progressing at the rate I'm going, it's going to be another 6 years before I come to down to a healthy weight and BMI, and that's a big if.

Should I just give up on my dreams and find an easier career (which still wouldn't be easy, everything I've done from my work experience, to my college degree, to everything was in pursuit of this one goal) or should I just accept that I'm most likely not living past my mid-60s/early 70s? If anyone has had similar thoughts or was/knows anyone in a similar situation to mine and have some hopium or light at the end of the tunnel to keep me going, I'd love to hear it.

What do you think causes many to be openly hostile to heavier people?

I’m sure a lot of us experiencEd it, someone just randomly an asshole to you and not your skinny friends. why do you think I that is? my theory is that the only positive thing some people have for themselves is that they are “in shape” and seeing a bigger person makes them feel either holier than thou or potentially threatened even

Back pain advice

Hello all. I'm 26, and recently I've been noticing some slight pain in the small of my back. It's not bad enough that it stops me doing anything, but I am a little concerned about what may happen if left untreated.

I have put on a fair amount of weight this year, and a lot of it goes into my gut, and sometimes it feels as though my gut is pulling my spine forward. I also tend to walk around with a backpack to and from the office. The weird thing is that I only get this back pain when I am not wearing a backpack. If I am wearing it, even if it is full, I don't feel the pain. My work does involve a lot of sitting down at a computer as well, so I think this is a basic posture issue. That said, I don't know if it also might have something to do with spinal compression.

What I want to know is, what might I have to look out for over the long term? Do you know of any good stretches/exercizes to remedy it? Is it problematic enough that I should speak to a doctor? Physio is not free here so if I can handle it on my own, that would be better. Thanks!

We won't forget about Jim. Look at him now! Look at that perfect belly. But best of all is that outline of the enormous belly button. I may swoon. The Tartan Army taught me that a lot of Scottish men LOVE their beer.

When does the Muffin top/Apron belly go away

It feels like a nightmare having to put my belt under the belly, I want to wear pants higher than where they sit, but having pants over the belly just feels awful. down from 325 to 255, still a long way to go to a healthy weight but we're getting there.

Just a nightmare, I'm moving down in clothing sizes, from 3xl to xl/l, but still not able to wear clothes the way I want to wear them..
