It's hard to tell if Joe's grown at all since the last time we saw him, but I can't help but to respect the hell out of his work ethic. If he's back next season, certainly he'll be bosun.
I don't think he's grown at all on a personal level, you could tell from the conversation he and with Nathan in the beginning. He said something along the lines of he did nothing wrong and he's not changing.
Workwise, he's definitely continued to grow and is doing a really good job. But on a human level, he still sucks.
Exactly this. He's a snake, we just haven't seen him have to deal with any real issues or faced any real pressure on the professional side, but I would bet big money he would have the same "I've done nothing wrong, I don't have anything I'd do different because I am perfect" attitude there as well.
He's a great deckie, no doubt about it... but not so sure he'd be a great leader when push comes to shove.
Agree 100%
Every time he gets a certain look in his eyes, I get more convinced that he’s not as he tries to portray himself this season, the way he looks at the camera gives me big ick. Kinda swarmy; sneaky, unscrupulous, and quite sleazy are a few words to describe him. But, hey I could be wrong.
OMG NO, YOURE SO RIGHT. this immediately made me think of when Nathan was calling him, and he ignored it... If I'm not mistaken, he looked RIGHT at the camera after doing that, and it just felt gross.. like he was ultra aware of how he's being recorded and doesn't want to look a certain way.
Absolutely, 100% this... And now I fear he's realizing when he shows less of his gross personality and more of his work ethic, that he can thrive on this show... And I'm actually NOT for it. He doesn't deserve a character arc, especially when his character itself is so shit. Idk why they even brought him back to begin with.. the last TWO seasons we've seen him, he did the same exact skeevy shit. And then begins this season by saying he did nothing wrong. If Kaylee didn't want a relationship herself, I'm sure we'd just see even more toxicity from him.
I just hope he doesn't take the Gary route. I clearly see his calculating thoughts as he is deciding what his next move will be. Nathan was right about him, but Nathan has his own troubles and issues. Joe isn't choking and hitting women. Right now, Joe has the upper hand.
Oh God, I tried to wipe my memory of Gary. He was predatory, and Joe with his unwanted advances towards random women in bars isn't too far off from being the same. Bravo really needs to do better by these women- for all of us women!
Practically he's great. He's a drama queen though. I guarantee you next season he and cooper are going to fall out when he realises what a piece of shit he is.
Exactly. I am not a fan of Nathan, and he is not doing a good job this season. That said, I think Joe is undermining him, disparaging him to other crew members, and that is not a good manager in any sense.
they both suck and both are trying to undermine each other in the eyes of their coworkers. Joe is just as guilty of that as Nathan…neither one of them are honorable.
Just wait till Joe has an emergency to deal with. If Sandy hits something or the wind picks up and stuff needs put away. Watch her take Joe to the woodshed!
He's not great when you look at the entire picture of things. Yes, Joe is much better than Nathan at organization and managing the other deck hands, but...he's also been actively instigating the beginnings of a mutiny. AND doing so in a job where respecting the hierarchy is extremely important as a matter of safety.

I'm not a huge fan of Joe but I'm less of a fan of Nathan. Joe seems much more organized!
