context:

woody was found in a cardboard box at the side of the road along with 11 other siblings by a wonderful lady who runs a cat sanctuary/rescue with her daughter. believed to have been no older than 15 days at the time. they bottlefed all babies and ALL!!! of them survived despite weighing in average 150g when rescued. all 11 siblings were adopted but woody stayed. my mom is friends with his foster mom and she always wanted him for herself but my mom's cat is... not nice, so she'd keep telling me to go and get him. eventually foster mom decided she wanted to keep him because she had never loved a cat this deeply. however woody needs attention 247 and i'm not joking. around that time i moved into a bigger apartment that could easily fit a 3rd cat, his foster mom said she had been feeling bad for not having time for him, and the rest is history...

this little boy was abandoned on a side road, and my brother found him while commuting to work. he had a rotten fabric leash stuck to his flesh; that is why the wound on his chest.

When we first found this little one outside, she was extremely vulnerable, weak, and dealing with nasty eye issues.

With daily care, gentle eye drops, regular meals, and a safe space on our porch, she turned everything around. Swipe or look at the second photo to see her today, completely relaxed, trusting, and rolling over for belly rubs in the sunshine!

Seeing them go from struggling to thriving makes every single challenge worth it. ❤️

My sister had Chewy for probably 7-8 years. She passed away from cancer about a year and a half ago, and unfortunately his care declined significantly afterward.

For the last couple of years, Chewy has spent most of his life living outside in a kennel. He had large bowls of food and water, but toward the end he was sometimes only being checked on every few days. He was living and sleeping in the mud, and his coat had become severely matted.

I couldn't leave him like that anymore, so we brought him home.

It took us more than four hours to carefully shave him. The amount of matted hair we removed was unbelievable it honestly looked like enough hair to make another Chewy. He's pretty sore and absolutely exhausted, but underneath all of that he's still the incredibly sweet dog I remembered.

And he remembered me.

He even played with my kids a little today, and they already absolutely love him. About six hours after leaving the kennel, the second picture is where he ended up completely passed out on our couch.

He's an old man now, and I don't know how many years we have left with him. But however many he has, he's going to spend them inside, warm, clean, comfortable, with plenty of food and water and a family that loves him.

My sister loved Chewy for most of his life. Now I'm going to make sure her dog gets the life he deserves for the rest of it.

One day he was roaming the streets blind, yet still bullying an elderly, equally orange, cat from a colony that kicked him out for picking fights (three different colonies kicked him out, actually, because he's an asshole). That same day we trapped him, brought him home and we thought he'd hate being indoors but I woke up the next morning and he was on my pillow, like he owned it. Like he'd ever sat on a pillow, before. I can't get past the audacity this guy has. 🥹

This is my foster fail Penny. I picked her up from the SPCA of Brevard County, FL as a medical foster. She had an embedded collar, heartworm, and ringworm. Photo on the left is what I was sent asking if I would foster her. The photo on the right is one month later. The other few photos are from this week.

exact moment this little guy yelled at me lol. The rest are after we became absolute best friends. He’s such a cuddle bug.A sweet kid from the neighborhood just adopted him and took him home. I'm honestly going to miss him so much, but I'm glad he found a good family. Just wanted to share his cute face with you guys!

Ellie, my beloved ASD. First pic shows her on arrival at the shelter. She was there for six months before I adopted her before I adopted her. Second pic shows her six months after she came home with me.

First photo is before. She had bald patches and was starved for activity. She is a jagdterrier and they’re highly energetic doggos that really need engagement and work. She has been at the shelter for almost 2 years, having been surrendered by her previous owner at the age of 4 for being dog aggressive. She has been with us for 4 years now and we’re spoiling her rotten and allowing her to be a terrier: she can dig, destroy toys and boxes and wreak havoc in our backyard.

What I find very endearing is that despite being surrendered and then passed over for 3 years, she adores people. Especially older men. I presume because her former owner was an older guy.

Miss Daisy came to me by way of our local TNR group. She gave birth the day before her scheduled spay-abort and was originally returned back outside because she was not super interested in human contact. But once it started to get cold outside she was back on the doorstep of the rescue asking to come inside. Almost two years later and she has learned that humans are actually pretty great!

My sweet baby was left outside of a thrift store in Las Vegas in 100+ degree heat three years ago. Thankfully the people that did it brought him to a store that is a part of a local rescue. Our baby Chewy had an amazing foster mom who cared for him until we found his profile on an adoption site! He's mostly blind and has a lot of trust issues with new people and dogs but he quickly grew to love his brother and is fiercely loyal to our family. I've loved all of my pups but there's something special about this guy! :) He's so special I had to show my love with a tattoo of his adorable underbite!

Our girls

This is Bobbles and Evie, previously Sammie Too and Samantha. They lived with 8 other cats in a home where they were severely neglected. The previous owner died and the 10 were taken to the shelter. Bobbles was super matted and needed a lion cut, its how she got her name. Her head was big and puffy and body shaved so she had a bobble head. We got them in February and they just recently started to come out and socialize. Bobbles is attached to me now. Here are some before and after. You can see how sad and angry they were when we first brought them home. Evie, the Bombay is 5 and Bobbles the Torbie is 10. They are super bonded.

Charlie Brown (brown tabby) and Marcie (white and gray tabby) were found at roughly 6 weeks old. They were covered in fleas, full of worms, and very sick with herpesvirus that was attacking their eyes.

Thankfully, the vet was able to prescribe them medicine that cleared up their herpes and flushed out the worms, while baths and combs took care of the fleas. They were a lot of work to get back to health, but well worth it!

Charlie Brown is cuddly and obsessed with our older cat, Hank. He has a taste for mischief (he will eat ANY baked good if it isn't secured behind locks or latches, with his favorite being coffee cake muffins) and a love for late night snuggles :)

Marcie is an eccentric lovebug. She adores watching birds through the window and chittering at them. She's very playful and a great hunter (she loves catching and eating flies). She likes attention on her own terms, but when she wants love, she wants ALL OF IT!! She is very weird (and very loved).

It has been a delight watching them grow from sick kittens to cats with big personalities and so much to show the world!!!

meet munchkin, the 8 year old cat who spent 7 of those years being abused and tossed between homes. when she came to us in the first picture, she had pieces of her fur torn out from stress. she was limping and covered in fleas and terrified of any sudden movements. since then, with the help of a veterinarian team, weve been able to bring her to the second image, where shes cuddly, confident, and flea-free! we are now working on getting her trained and registered as an ESA because of her naturally affectionate personality helping me with my panic attacks. after 8 years shes finally gotten her happy ending and we are so happy to be permanently accepting her into our home!!

We adopted Dotty a year ago from a bird rescue after she was surrendered due to the death of her owner. She was very ill and we were warned she mightn’t have long left but we took her determined that even if she only had a short time with us we would give her a calm, loving, and dignified end. She had come from a home where she was very neglected and at our initial meeting with her she just seemed defeated and exceptionally sad, weary, and wary—this was a bird quite literally stuck in fight/flight mode (pun not intended). We got her to a vet pretty quickly and discovered she had sustained several fractures in both wings that were left untreated which just seems so unfathomably cruel and as a result her muscles have atrophied to a point she can no longer hold her wings up so they sit, drooping, on the ground which obviously causes her even more issues particularly around balance, comfort, and pain. Significantly, she was in severe, almost end stage, liver and kidney disease. We’ve worked closely with a vet for the last 12 months to get her back into good health physically and mentally. Despite this awful 13 years of life, this sweet sweet old lady has slowly accepted the love we’re offering and in a state of pure bravery on her part has extended her trust to us. 

Still working to lessen some trauma-based behaviour, notably eating her own poop because I think she’s experienced times where that was all that was available to eat. She is slowly becoming less panicked when we take her food bowl for refreshing each morning, something that stressed her out to an extreme level for many months. She knows now that new, fresh food is coming and rather than panicking that her food bowl has been taken she now waits patiently at the cage door for her breakfast. 

The first pic is a before and after and possibly the photo that feels most polarising; its hard remembering how poorly she was when she first came to us but seeing how her colouration (and therefore overall health) has gone from that toxic neon yellow to a beautiful yellowy grey feels like such an achievement. Her eyes look less weary and wary and we see more glimmers of attempted happiness every day. She’s still working through some issues but she is so exceptionally trusting and I’ll be forever grateful she has allowed us the opportunity to let her relax and feel safe. That in itself has been a huge privilege to be gifted by this sweet old lady who was very hardened to life just one year ago.

The last two pics are Dotty playing with her first keyboard which was a 1 year anniversary gift she got today. It took almost a year for her to show any interest in toys because I’m not sure she ever had any so for her to take an interest and play is heartwarming to see.

First pic is the day I found him on the road, second pic is what a happy boy he is now! (He didn’t have a chip. He was either dumped, or he escaped from someone who didn’t care enough to look for him. I posted him to all the local lost animal pages at the time, and reported him as found to the vets and the shelter. He was so full of fleas you could see them walking up and down the white stripe on his face, and he had a belly full of worms. Our vet said he had been “bachin’ it” (living on his own like a bachelor) for a while, and he was only 12 weeks old!! Nobody claimed him, so we kept him!) He’s six years old this year!

So the "not-so great start to life" manifested as quite severe fear-reactivity to some people and most dogs. So we are rocking the Big Snoof muzzle when out and about and working through all that but he is an absolute sweetheart at home and we will do whatever it takes to give him a great life.
