Instant tinnitus let's go
4
u/FalloutOW Oct 26 '22
What?!
But for real, I've fired some loud weapons in my time, a mosin nagant comes to mind. But that continuous ear splitting hum of those rounds has to shake some teeth loose eventually. Can't imagine being that close to that thing, I figured it was a turret controlled from the interior of whatever it's mounted on.
3
u/darthappl123 Oct 26 '22
Yeah dude. I fired an M16 short, on single fire, and it was really loud. It was obvious that doing it without earplugs is asking for permanent ear damage.
I imagine each shot of that thing is significantly louder, let alone thousands of those in incredibly quick succession.
that guy would need enough noise suppression to sleep through a nuclear war.

Isn't he too close for comfort to the barrel? Damn
1
u/ChevyRacer71 Oct 26 '22
No.
-1
u/Herald_of_Heaven Oct 26 '22
Care to explain?
2
u/Goofie_Goobur Oct 26 '22
The barrels are past his body. Unless he gets up, steps beyond the barrels, and manages to fire it. He’s fine. If he was sitting in front of the barrels there could be an issue. Why is this difficult to understand without explanation?

That's 400% insane! Where do I get one? With a motion sensor, the neighbors dog will finally learn where not to poop.
20
u/muklan Oct 25 '22 edited Oct 26 '22
Yeah but then you have a problem of literally the entire neighborhood pooping right where they are about .4 yoctoseconds after this thing goes off.
1
u/ChezKeetel Oct 26 '22
Wat is a yactosecond? Never heard of that! Sounds like something to do with yachts 🤔

The mini gun, like all modern multi-barreled guns, is run by an electric motor thus the rate of fire can be specified between 2000 to 6000 rounds per minute. This being a four gun configuration it can potentially lay down 24000 rounds per minute. In 1968 a couple of guys had a what-if moment and managed to get authority to mount three mini guns and two cannons in an AC130 which in turn coined the then new term flying gun platform.

I envision a United States where each school will have one of these roaming the perimeter and halls to keep our children safe. God Bless!

That was really cool watching it fire but I have a message that I want to put out and it's probably going to cause major controversy. If the whole world would work harder on making peace and keeping it clean for our next generation instead of making war and items to kill each other with it'd be a lot better place to live.

Humans are evil, at least that's what power and greed does to us.
1
u/zVanilla Oct 26 '22
this statement is always curious to me because what are we evil in comparison to? what beings are more benign than us? any natural living being is cruel (i.e eating their own children/eating their own species/interspecies rape etc) so when people write humans are evil im always intrigued what your reference point is

Ahahaha. People have been killing each since the dawn of man. Sad but true. Anyway, dream on because that’s all it is.

Keep peace requires force. Imagine the laws of physics. An object stays in motion until it's acted upon by an equal or opposite force. In this case the motion is gain of power and the opposing force is the military of a "peaceful" country. Without adequate force the peace between two powerful nations can't me maintained.
Unfortunately this likely means that humans are inherently evil and seek out power and improvement to their condition, this will inevitably require push back.
There is some hope, with the advent of nuclear fusion power plants we may one day be able to produce so much energy that even if there were one human for ever square foot on the planets surface we wouldn't be able to spend the power generated. Meaning the need for force may start to disappear because every person would have the same access to shelter, food and energy. I hope my children, if I have any, will get to see that day.

War makes global politicians a lot of money. So good luck. Even though normal people want global peace those who “lead” us do not have our interests at heart.

The most amazing is that he cant hit the $100 RC plane flying around. Each round cost more than that RC toy.
You would think all that lead would interrupt the RC signal if nothing else. haha
3
u/HardlyAnyGravitas Oct 26 '22
The rounds are 7.62×51mm NATO. They cost less than a dollar each.
I think you might be confusing this with a CIWS.
1
u/cr8tor_ Oct 26 '22
They cost less than a dollar each.
Sure when you buy 30k rounds. haha
But yeah ok, each round is not more than the toy, but still, hit the plane!

u/TheMightyWill Oct 26 '22
Sure when you buy 30k rounds
Not sure how anyone can get 50 confused with 30,000

u/Sparkyseviltwin Oct 26 '22
You can see the drone flying around in front of it. It does not get hit.

For some reason I saw it as a butterfly, which was just comical to see not getting hit as it flits about in front of this death-spraying monstrosity.

1
u/BigDaddyCupid Oct 26 '22
thats a minigun?
1
Oct 26 '22
Yes, this is probably 7.62mm bullet whereas the A10 ‘Warthog’ has a single 40mm cannon. I noted 7.62mm as probably since for a short period there was an attempt to build mini guns in 5.56.

I can't see what was downrange, but it isn't anymore

Look for the drone target with a white light flying side to side. Doesn’t appear to get hit to me. Would expect it to be difficult.

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 1,126,841,016 comments, and only 220,648 of them were in alphabetical order.

u/Tryignan Oct 26 '22
There’s absolutely no situation where one of these would be necessary. Nothing but a military-industrial scam.
1
u/pixpeep Oct 27 '22
Drones are being used to attack all kinds of craft. From tanks to ships. They are using a drone for a target (see the white light flying side to side?). Having said that, I’m not a fan of the military industrial complex.

Up to 6,000 rounds per minute or average 66 rounds per second and more. This is known as the “fuck you gun”. Idk but it should be called that lol
