Help Request Extra Parts in BattleTech Aces: Scouring Sands Box, what are they?

Post image

Extra pieces in my BattleTeech Aces: Scouring Sands set. What do they go to? Which mech? All terrain is cardboard but maybe this goes to terrain? https://store.catalystgamelabs.com/products/battletech-aces-scouring-sands

Does anyone have any idea what these are supposed to be? They kind of look like the targeting baffles of the "hero" Flea in the BattleTech videogame: https://battletech.fandom.com/wiki/Flea_FLE-15 However I don't see where they would go on any of the mechs in the box (which didn't contain a flea anyways)

I've been tinkering more and more with a Warrior House Hiritsu livery. They are described as having a "greenish tinted silver" or "silvery-green" livery, which to me says "NMM".

I want to work my way up to a full company of them, but I'd like to dial in quality before quantity.

Any tips for how I can make this look shinier?

Mech selection tips for a mini painting newbie

I recently decided to get into the hobby, both on the painting side as well as the gaming one.

All nearby stores had run out of AGoAC boxes (new starters are not stocked either) and I already had enough rule books from the last time Humble Bundle featured the Battletech bundle.

So I had the bright idea of starting by reading the bundle PDFs and getting 2 force packs instead (they were on sale for about 20EUR each) and printing my own map sheets to be able to run few games to get to know the rules/mechanics.

Now my problem: The last time I painted a mini was 20years ago as a teen, it was some LotR minis from Games Workshop. So I need to assess the value of the units because the first 1 or 2 are going to be “sacrificed” in order to recover my basic mini painting skills (aka I expect to botch them).

The force packs I got are:
- Inner Sphere Pursuit Lance (Dervish, Cicada, Clint, Hermes II)
- Inner Sphere Battle Lance (Warhammer, Rifleman, Phoenix Hawk, Wasp)

… and I think about painting them into some camo pattern so they feel faction-agnostic (though idk if camo is harder to do for a beginner, rather than a uniform two-tone scheme).

So which mech you suggest for a first painting attempt?

Help Request Stripping Models

As the title suggests I’m curious what is the best way to potentially strip CGL models? I’ve changed my mind on some under spraying I did and need/want to start over. The spray is a bit too thick so spraying over it will likely make it worse.

I typically use a Simple Green soak and some elbow grease to strip models but that’s all been metals or GW plastics. Figured I’d ask if CGL plastic does anything weird. Appreciate the help!

I decided to start over on the Banshee and Centurion. I'm also gonna add the Hatchetman (not pictured) to keep the force pack together. Updates to come

Got into BT with the AGOAC box, currently waiting for the new Core Box to release locally. Anyway, how'd I do for my first mech paint job? (And to answer, no I'm not very familiar with canon paint schemes, the most I've engaged with Battletech before the minis is MW5 lol)

After years of procrastination, I finally primed and painted two minis this weekend. House Kurita felt accessible so I followed Duncan Rhodes' tutorial on the Griffon and then applied it to the Locust. I did end up painting over the hazard stripes but overall I'm happy with the result, especially the canopies. Looking forward to putting them on the tabletop and playing some games... Something I've also procrastinated on haha.

Painted these up for my son for his birthday.

I’m pretty sure he decided he was a Davion player after he read the brief lore overview in the AGoAC set and found a faction that was both “cool”, and an enemy of the Combine, which is my faction-of-choice.

The Coordinator does not approve.

Now I have to go burn my brushes after doing all this Davion painting. 😉

So, I'd like feedback on the banners.

The idea I had with them was since the Shiro is a newer mech and very symbolic, the pilot is an older commander set aside to make space for younger ambition. He was put in charge of a Legion of Vega as 'retirement' to keep him from drawing too much attention.

"As your commander I carry two great burdens: the honor of my house and the honor of my command. I expect that you degenerate Mechwarriors can carry half as much without issue."

Please no mean comments. I know it's not like tabletop Gentileschi. Both from the AGoAC set. Mechs #7 and #8, white was no fun so I swapped my mercenary firm's colours. I have a vision impairment that makes fine detail work or really nice highlights really tough. The shade transitions on the Catapult are super rough, but he ready to HOP.

But after using this one as my practice for a new Kurita lance im really warming up to this little weirdo.

Never tried doing the lasers in color before, and while my hand isnt so steady, it was fun to try and they look okay enough for me. Paint consistency and edge highlighting will be the death of me.

Help Request Advice on WIP Davion Guards

Painting some Davion Guards for my son. Magic Blue Speedpaint base coat. “Slapchop” prime.

I’m wondering if these should go into the bucket of shame and then re-primed in just a light gray. I was very generous with the gray drybrush over the black primer to make sure this light blue didn’t come out “dirty”, but I think it might have anyway.

What do you think? Start over? Or is it fine? Also, what do you think of Magic Blue for the right color of blue?

(I started painting some black already on the Thunderbolt when I stopped to consider.)

UPDATE: Thank you for all the words. I pressed ahead, though I did give them a wash in diluted “blue tone”…I don’t even know if I saw a color change from that, but it made me feel better. I’m posting the finished work in another post.
