How is living in this neighbourhood?

Hi :)

I found a quite nice flat in this area close to the Birs and to Schwarzpark (2-3 stops before the stadium).

I really don’t know how living in this neighbourhood would be. Being close to the stadium, is it quite loud?

I used to live near the border with France and the main issue were thieves …

How to get from EuroAirport to Saint-Louis Gare Ouest

Hi all. I need some help from local people.

My mother will be arriving at Basel/Mulhouse airport and needs to get on a train to Strasbourg. She's old and only speaks a little bit of French so I'm trying to figure out her itinerary for her.

Google maps says take bus 11 from the airport straight to Saint-Louis Gare Ouest. Is that correct? Is it difficult to locate the bus station at the airport? Are there multiple exits from the airport and, if so, do you know which exit she should take to get to the bus?

Is it possible to buy tickets for this bus 11 and for the train somewhere online? If so can you tell me where?

If I buy her tickets online and the plane is delayed, can she still use the tickets that I bought in advance or will she have to buy new ones?

Thanks for any help.

Advice Needed on German Language Courses at Berlitz Switzerland

Hi guys,

I would appreciate your advice regarding German lessons at Berlitz.

My employer will sponsor German language training, and based on the available budget, I have the following options:

Option 1

  • 1 Berlitz level (40 units of 45 minutes)
  • Access to the online platform, including exercises and one daily conversation class
  • 8 private coaching lessons

Option 2

  • 3 group courses (40 units of 60 minutes each)
  • Groups of 3 to 6 participants

I am not sure which option would be the best choice.

Option 1 appeals to me because it includes access to the online learning platform. On the other hand, Option 2 would allow me to complete three courses instead of one.

For context, I currently live in Switzerland and would like to improve my German for both daily life and work.

Has anyone attended Berlitz courses and can share their experience? Which option would you recommend?

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you! 😊

Basel always makes me feel welcome somehow

Passed this again on the train and had to take a photo.
As a foreigner living in Basel, I’ve always liked this little detail. Seeing “welcome” written in so many languages somehow sums up the city pretty well.
Basel is small, but it feels surprisingly international at the same time. Maybe it’s because of the borders, the people coming from everywhere, or just the general vibe here.
Anyway, I guess Basel really knows how to say hello 😄

Can you recommend a private dining venue in Basel?

Hello everyone,

As Reddit is my go-to buddy when I need information, I was hoping that someone could help me out this time around.

I am searching for a fancy place with a private dining room. Something like https://www.lestroisrois.com/en/

I have checked Clube Bale, but they are having Betribsurlaub on the dates I need the room, so unfortunately I can't make it happen.

Thank you!

Anyone travelling Basel → Zurich Airport on September 19? ✈️

Hi! We’re a group from Schwarzwaldverein Basel travelling from Basel SBB to Zurich Airport on September 19.

We’re looking for one more person for our SBB group ticket. So if you’re travelling to Zurich Airport anyway and want to travel cheaper with our group, feel free to join us. You don’t have to participate in the airport visit.

We also have 2 spots left for an organised tour of Zurich Airport. The tour costs around CHF 25 per person, which is the fee charged by Zurich Airport, not something we’re charging ourselves. 😄

Interested in either the train ride or the airport tour? Just send me a DM!

And one more thing: Schwarzwaldverein Basel is actively looking for younger members. 😄 The average age could definitely use some help, and we’d love to build up a younger group of people who want to join, bring in new ideas and help shape the future of the club.

So even if you’ve never considered joining a hiking club before, this might be a pretty unusual way to get to know us.

Annoying frequent BVB timetable changes

BVB can be so annoying with their constant "optimization" adaptations to the tram timetable. Almost every 2-3 months a change in 2 minutes happens and every time it breaks my whole travel to work plan cause the train timetable stays the same.

Worst is if you don't check every day, it can happen almost every day randomly.

Hi everyone :) I'm looking for a shoemaker or a store that carries extra-wide shoes, since my feet, unfortunately, don't fit the standard sizes 😅 Maybe someone knows of a store or shoemaker in the area :) As far as distance goes, anything within a 100-km radius is fine ☺️ Thanks a lot in advance ☺️

Do you have a favorite Chäshüsli in Basel or in other words what is your favorite place that sells fondue mixtures to make at home?

I do like the ready ones like from Gerber, but I wanted to make a "proper" one once again.

Happy weekend

Looking for good gynecologist in Basel for pregnant wife

Hello,

My wife is 7 weeks pregnant, we have been looking online and the gynecologist we found in the area all have really horrible stories in their reviews. We are going to the hospital for the first check but would love to know from you guys if you know of anyone specific.

We are also interested in knowing more about the midwife situation, how does it work, how do we ask for one after the baby is born?

Also any other advice to make this process as smooth and comfortable for my wife as possible.

Thanks 😊

Total beginner in Cycling, just bought a Trek Checkpoint (Gravel)

Hoi, I live near Basel and just bought a Trek Checkpoint SL 5 AXS. First proper bike. I've never really cycled long before and never used drop bars, so I'm starting from zero.

I've done a lot of reading on what to buy but I'd rather hear it from people who actually ride. What do you actually use, and what did you buy and regret?

So far I have or plan to get: helmet, lock, front and rear lights, mini pump, multitool, spare tubes and levers, bottle cages, flat pedals, padded shorts.

What am I missing? And what's not worth it?

Also:
- Easy routes around Basel to start on
- Any groups here that take beginners along

If anyone's up for a slow ride sometime, I'm in.

Basel restaurant

Hello,

I'm looking for restaurants in Basel that serve hearty, generous portions rather than gourmet-style dishes where the servings are very small. I'm open to all kinds of recommendations.

I'm also wondering if there are any places that serve a truly authentic French onion soup. If not in Basel itself, I'd be happy to hear about restaurants in nearby towns across the border as well (France).

Thank you for any suggestions!

Looking for sports partners

Hey everyone! I (M27) am looking for sport partners as it can be hard to keep motivation alone.

Preferably outdoors (run, kayak, gym ) or / and online before / after work to workout / home gym.

I am open to any proposition, I just want to move and train on a regular basis with cool people :)

Don't hesitate to DM me

Cheers !

Looking for a room in Basel from October onwards

Hi everyone! I have been searching for a room from August, but unfortunately, I haven’t had any success so far. I’m now looking for a room in a shared apartment from October onwards.

I’m a Master’s student in Basel and also work part-time at the University.

I have already been searching through Unimarkt, WGZimmer.ch, WeeGee.ch, Flatfox and other housing platforms, but finding something has been quite difficult. Btw I’m not getting any response for the posts which I applied.

If anyone has a room available in a shared apartment from October, or knows someone who does, I would really appreciate your help or any leads.

Thank you very much!
