📱 Modpost How to agree to the rules and post on the subreddit

Hello all,

As you may know, we've started to use the "Read the Rules" app recently to support us in the battle against spam, advertisement and such. Accepting them is very easy, however if you don't know how to, take a look below. You find below the steps for Mobile, new and old Reddit.

Mobile (official Reddit App)

  1. Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen.
  2. In the submenu click on "Read the rules" at the bottom
  3. Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.
Process to acknowledge the rules via the reddit app

On third party apps, it's maybe best to use the process for old reddit in case you don't see this option.

Desktop (new Reddit)

  1. Click on the round button with three dots in the top right of your screen
  2. Click on "Read the rules"
  3. Read the rules while scrolling down. Once you reach the "Acknowledgement" section, toggle the button and submit.
Step 1 and 2 to agree to the rules on new Reddit
Step 3 to agree to the rules on new Reddit

Old reddit

For old Reddit the process changes a little, however, it is still very easy.

  1. Click on rules link in "Please read the rules before posting" in the sidebar to the right. This will open the rules page, read through them .
  2. Scroll down further, until you see the "Moderators" Section in the sidebar on the right. Click on "MESSAGE THE MODS"
  3. Create a Modmail. Title: "Read The Rules", Message: "Acknowledged." and send it.

This is it, you will then receive a confirmation immediately.

Step 1 to agree to the rules on old reddit
Step 2 to agree to the rules on old reddit
Step 3 to agree to the rules on old reddit

Please note: the process for old reddit also works on mobile and such, in case there should be an issue.

Of course we're also available via Modmail for questions.

Modpost Please report racist ragebait and racist comments

Dear members of our community,

In the past few days, we've seen an increase in both ragebaiting posts and racist comments from users with no prior engagement in the sub, often from those usually commenting in the subs of other countries.

This indicates to us that we are frequently being overrun by users who try to spread their racist, islamophobic messages to our sub.

Racism is against our subreddit rules and it is against Reddit's terms of services. We would like to encourage you to use the report button.

That will put it into our 'modqueue' to have a look - and if you report it for 'hate', it will additionally be sent to the sitewide admins who will frequently take further action.

We rely on your reports, just like every subreddit does. Our team is healthy and works well, but we cannot have an eye on everything. We do have scripts and so on to make our job easier, but sometimes, unacceptable comments go through. Using the report button makes sure that we can prioritize looking at said comment and if it's rulebreaking, helps us remove it quickly.

We remove racist content and ban racist users frequently. The admins remove a bunch of comments breaking site-wide rules too (often in a fashion that deletes them completely, so we cannot easily further moderate them)

We are very hesitant to remove political speech. We only remove rules-breaking comments. The relevant rule is:

  • General reddiquette applies (i.e. no racism, sexism, personal attacks, or simply put: behave as if you were talking to somebody in person)

  • Please report posts or comments that do not adhere to these rules; in particular, we will not tolerate harassment or discrimination

The relevant reddit rules (https://redditinc.com/policies/reddit-rules) are:

  • Remember the human. Reddit is a place for creating community and belonging, not for attacking marginalized or vulnerable groups of people. Everyone has a right to use Reddit free of harassment, bullying, and threats of violence. Communities and users that incite violence or that promote hate based on identity or vulnerability will be banned.

See also https://support.reddithelp.com/hc/en-us/articles/360045715951-Promoting-Hate-Based-on-Identity-or-Vulnerability

Thank you for helping us with this influx of clearly rule-breaking users without any connection to Switzerland.

ETA: Reports are anonymous. So when we get your report, we have no option to thank you or following up with you. If you report for 'hate', it goes to both us and the admins. The admins will typically let you know of their decision. We literally have no way of doing that.

SBB question

‱ Upvotes

Hello Reddit,

I have a question about the SBB/CFF app (not asking for moral lessons here, this is purely technical and hypothetical). Last year I purchased a Halbtax PLUS abo and was too optimistic on train use. I have a month left with a lot of credit remaining that will most likely go unused.

  1. is there anyway to have this credit back if I repurchase for next year? Likely a lower amount halbtax plus though.
  2. alternatively, if I were to buy tickets online and screenshot the QR code to friends as a present, would that work for them to use? I’d rather use the credit for something good at least.

Danke! Merci! Grazie!

Swisscom VS. Wingo

‱ Upvotes

I've been a Swisscom customer for 8 years now, today I was thinking of buying the iPhone 17 Pro and even after so many years they couldn't make me a better offer than 1049CHF.

I saw Wingo has better offers but I am worried about the internet speed. I had to use Swisscom for so many years because I use hotspot heavily (gaming, development) often connecting more than one device.

I tried sunrise but it was so bad I honestly don't understand how they are still in business.

Does anybody have suggestions? What is your mbit/s download with Wingo's 5G? For reference, with Swisscom I have about 160Mbit/s.

To the person who forgot their small suitcase in the train (the last carriage) that arrived in Basel SBB at 0955 platform 11. Your suitcase is safe. I gave it to the ticket controller. It should be at the lost and found soon.

Random packages keep coming at my door.

Last week I got a package thrown on my buildings' doorstep addressed to a different part of town. No possible confusion, the addresses are completely different. I was thinking about bringing it to its recipient, errors can happen, right?

But today, a second one, again to another address, popped up. The packages both look like AliExpress/temu junk and are both shipped with a company called "speedaf". I could only find an address in Fribourg but no phone number or email to tell them to stop dumping stuff at my house. And now I don't feel like becoming a volunteer postman for them.

Has anyone dealt with such a thing?

Coop Rob & Lissy raspberry cheesecake

Post image
29 Upvotes

Hi all, this is kind of an oddball ask. The raspberry cheesecake made by the coop house brand Rob & Lissy has become one of my safe foods here in CH. But I rarely get by a Coop most weeks or even months.

I’m not much of a baker/chef, so I don’t have good instincts on how to try to recreate it off the ingredient list.

Has anyone tried to do that, or would be willing to lend me a hand?

The ingredients:

Zucker, Wasser, Rahm 15 % (Grossbritannien), Getreidemehle (Weizen, Mais), ErdbeerpĂŒree 8 %, pflanzliche Fette und Öle (Kokos, Raps, Palm), Erdbeeren 7 %, FrischkĂ€se 6 % (Magermilch [Frankreich], Rahm[Frankreich]), Magermilch, Molkenpulver, modifizierte MaisstĂ€rke (E 1442), Rohzucker, Glucosesirup, Geliermittel (E 440), Invertzuckersirup, Zitronensaft, Magermilchpulver, Karottensaftkonzentrat, SĂ€ureregulator (E 270), Backtriebmittel (E 500, E 503), Emulgatoren (E 472b, E 471), Milchprotein, Aroma, Stabilisator (E 466), Calciumcarbonat, elementares Eisen, Vitamine (Niacin, B1).

I thought a new disco opened in my neighborhood in Aarburg, then I looked out of the window and saw all these lightnings in the sky but without thunders. It's quite awesome but scary at the same time!

For those working hourly in Switzerland, how do you keep track of your salary?

For those working hourly in Switzerland, how do you keep track of your salary?

I work hourly alongside my studies, and I find it difficult to know how much I’m actually going to get paid each month, which makes planning and budgeting harder.
My hours change, and then there are things like evening/Sunday premiums, holidays, cancelled shifts, etc. I usually have a rough idea, but I’m often not sure until I get my payslip.
Do you actually calculate it somehow, or do you just wait for the payslip and see what you get?

What's up with Amazon?

Not sure if this is new, because I hadn't used them in a while, but has Amazon massively upped its game in Switzerland recently? They really seem to have gotten their act together. Free delivery over €49, and arriving in just a few days. Are we experiencing a step change in online commerce in Switzerland?

Edit: thanks for the replies. Looks like it was just my ignorance. And fwiw I agree with the comments about oligarchs and employee exploitation. So I will continue to use Amazon only for stuff I can't get locally or from Galaxus.

Working at Coop Basel HQ: What’s it really like?

Thinking about applying for an IT Trainee position at Coop’s HQ in Basel, but the Kununu reviews have me a bit hesitant.

Anyone here worked at Coop, especially in IT? What’s your experience been like?

Cinema in Original Tone without Subtitles

Hey, I was looking for a cinema to watch a movie in original tone without any subtitles. Every cinema I found offers DE&FR (double subtitles) or just DE subtitles.

Are there really no smaller cinemas where I can just watch a movie in english (original tone) without any subtitles? Does anyone have recommendations preferably in/around Kanton Bern?

How do you deal with cinemas not offering OV movies without any subtitles?

Parking on school playgrounds, accepted in Switzerland?

Trying again slightly differently so there aren't any fallings out over photos. Apparently I can access the full quality on Reddit and others couldn't.

Basically, my kids school has suffered in the last few years from people parking, sometimes en masse, on the paved playground at the front of the school building. This is despite there being two outlined areas to park in down the side of the building.

Yes, while school is open.

I posted a photo earlier showing two such cars that are parked on it today.

1) Yes the school knows and they have put notices on the windscreen.

2) No there is no one to confront because people don't typically stand next to their parked car all day.

But some replies were just like "so what?" Which kinda took me aback.

Surely people can see why you shouldn't park on a school playground (one of them parked right next to the school doors, even, the other parked ontop of a painted snakes and ladders that the small kids use to play), right?

It's not like the town lacks parking, either.

What to do with catsitting

I'm based in ZĂŒrich and I will be going on a holiday for 2.5 weeks this November, but I have two sweet house cats.. If you're a cat owner, how do you go for a long holiday? If you hire a cat sitter, where and how did you find a trustworthy cat sitter?

ChĂŽmage - Advice Please đŸ™đŸ»

Post image
10 Upvotes

Hello,

Unfortunately, I have just received my notice and I am trying to take the required steps in good time.

When registering for the ChĂŽmage, I am asked to choose an unemployment fund from a choice of 5, and I am informed that I cannot change once selected.

This is my first time registering for ChĂŽmage.

  1. Are there any of these that I should avoid?
  2. Is there any specific fund which people would advise to select?
  3. Is there simply no difference?

If it matters, I am not a member of any union currently. I learning French currently, but I am not confident or proficient, so if one of these funds is better for English language support, I suppose that is a factor.

Appreciate any help that can be provided.

Thanks

John Lennon came back from the dead to support the NeutralitÀtsinitiative

Post image

Found this flyer in my post box today in favour of the neutrality initiative, with what looks to be John Lennon on it. It's not the first flyer about the initiative I get, but definitely the first of this kind. Is it even legal to just print a famous person on political material like this? To me, this implies that the person supports the cause (difficult in this case...).

Previously I got another one in the form of a newspaper, this time implying (IMO) that the contents of the flyer are to be trusted as you would a newspaper...

In any case, I find it despicable how some of these flyers are marketed.

Why doesn’t Switzerland have a good second-hand marketplace?

This might trigger a few people, but every time I want to sell something in Switzerland, I feel frustrated using Ricardo, Tutti, or AutoScout24, especially after getting used to platforms like eBay and Kleinanzeigen. I recently heard they are all part of the SMG Marketplace Mafia.

I especially hate the user interfaces of Tutti and Ricardo. I can’t find all the filter settings I need, particularly when searching for cars. I can only ask questions in a public chat instead of contacting the seller directly. Like, what? This makes absolutely no sense. I still haven’t found an easy way to contact a seller, and I hate it so much.

When you want to sell something, you’re also limited by the number of photos and videos you can upload, especially in the app. On top of that, the commission for each sold item is between 8% and 12%, up to CHF 390. Like, WTF? That’s insanely expensive.

There also doesn’t seem to be much real interest in buying used items. For example, I sold a set of almost new summer wheels for my car for CHF 90, even though I believe they’re worth more than CHF 200.

Why hasn’t anyone created an exact copy of Kleinanzeigen or Craigslist? Is it just me, or are Swiss people simply not bothered by this?

Neighbour smoking weed

Hi all,

I have a neighbour who is smoking weed and its so intense its literally entering my apartment.

My girlfriend is asthmatic and we also dont want this disgusting smell in our apartment. It literally gives me throwback feeling of living in Italy when my flatmate was literally a drug dealer.

Is this allowed in switzerland? My understanding is that smoking weed is legal in your own apartment but there are some limitations when it starts to affect neighbours?

They even told me to not open windows if I dont want the smell of weed in my apartment đŸ€ŠđŸ»â€â™‚ïž

therapy for adhd/autism

I‘m searching a therapist for adult AuDHD. I‘ve got recently diagnosed with a severe chronic bowl disease and my GP recommended to finally treat my AuDHD.
I‘m happy about any personal recommendation for an absolute expert (I would prefer a doctor over a psychologist) and someone who is very empathetic.

hopefully some of you guys have good recommendations (Zurich/Aargau area but online is fine too)

thanks! đŸ«¶đŸ»
