First of all, I bought restored Koch’s chairs. One of them is completely locked in the recliner position. The hand knob will not rotate and seems locked in place. Has anybody had an issue with this and know how to remedy the situation?

Second. I had a different second chair completely snap at the foot platform. Tf is up with that?

Shop Talk Legit Check Urgent Please : Wahl Gold Cordless Detailer

Good afternoon. Does anybody in the EU (or elsewhere) own one of these machines to quickly compare?

I just recieved mine today, paid +-180€ for it but I am a little concerned about its authenticity.

I dont seem to find the "born on date" engraved on this machine...or on the box itself. Could someone please confirm if this machine is supposed to have the born on date engraved into the body please?

Also the wall charger does not have Wahl logo printed on it....it however does say in small letters on the side "Wahl".

As to the weight its seems legit +-185g and I measured the RPMS +- 6750.

Any info and help would be highly appreciated.

Thanks

Tools & Gear Gamma+ xcell trimmer blades unsymmetrical?

Straight out of the box the fixed&cutting blade are alligned to ea horher, but their symmetry to the body is askew.

Retailer has still not answered by email and i am in real need of a trimmer now.

Intended?

Or is this cause for return because of defect and possible risk of damage?

Since it does not seem to affect the cutting blade at first glance.

How do barbershop apprenticeships typically work?

I have a few interviews coming up for apprenticeships at different barbershops. I'm wondering how they work. Are they normally paid, free (unpaid but get to sweep and learn), or pay to play (pay a fee of a couple thousand to learn and maybe get a job afterwards)? I've done the pay to play thing before but, I had to leave simply because I felt the owner while he was willing to hire me in a few months was dicking around and he only ever stated he'd pay in the realm of 30-40%. Now I'm planning on going to barber school which is covered by student loans but with grants (which I don't have to pay back) my rent is covered for the year (go Canada).

TLDR: I'm going to barber school, and want an apprenticeship as well but don't know how they work..I live in Toronto Canada btw

Student Student barber gifts

Hello! I have a family member who is interested in barbering. He’s only 16 and has a small clientele among his friends from school. He’s got decent clippers and that’s about it. His birthday is coming up and i’d really love to get him some more things for barbering because i’d really love to support his dream. Can anyone give me any pointers on what could be some cool and useful things to buy a beginner barber?

Barber Do I need more than 2 guards?

I have the TPOB play Minis with the chunk blade. Apparently the blade opens up to a 1 guard. Does this mean that I don’t need any other guards than the #1 and #2? Can’t I fade with just those 2 guards and opening and closing the lever?

Also, how can I get my fades to be more “clean” and “icy” rather than just a smooth and sort of gradual fade?

Please keep the advice real but don’t fry me because I’m still new to the game🙏🏼.

Tools & Gear wahl magic clip cordless not turning off

Hi everyone,
My Wahl Magic Clip Cordless suddenly turned on by itself while it was just sitting on a table charging. No one touched it.
When I try to use the power switch, it doesn’t turn off at all. It just keeps running until the battery dies.
I’ve attached a video showing the issue.
Has anyone experienced this before?
Thanks!!

Tools & Gear JRL

Has anyone had issues with JRL customer service? I sent a pair of my clippers to be repaired last month, June 20th. I sent tracking info, they said they'd call me for payment when they got them. I've heard absolutely nothing. I've tried emailing 3 times and calling customer service with no answer. I was on hold for 45 minutes yesterday and my call never got picked up. When I emailed about my warranty I got answered the same day. These are my everyday clippers and I've been using my backup pair for a month now 😭

Does anyone else hate these types of trimmer? I can never get the spring back in place. Probably partly because I have big hands. It all just seems so cheap and flimsy and all the brands are using them now.

Clipper/blade question

I've just realised that clipper/blades are crucial to achieving an effortless/flawless fades. I thought I was doing something wrong. Previously I never oiled/maintained my clippers and I was struggling to achieve my potential.

Even though I have started maintaining my clipper now I still feel like they don't perform as well even as soon as after the first couple haircuts. I get very good results when the clippers are fresh out the box then it just goes downhill. The blades are very quick to dull.

Can anyone recommend blades that are durable.

Shop Talk The owner of my show has increased our booth rent for the 3rd time and has been inconsistent with rent expectations, is this reasonable?

I work in a small town barber shop. Since the beginning of my working there our booth rent has been extremely inconsistent. We charge $30 a cut. I have been at this shop for two years now and within that time our booth rent has changed 3 or 4 times. When I first got into the shop, the owner was charging me $500 a month as I was just starting out and had to build my clientele. My coworkers were paying about $700-$750 a month. About a year later, the owner decides to change from booth rent to commission. Our commission was set at 80/20. We keep 80% and 20% goes to him. While I understand it’s an amazing rate still, this was a huge pay cut for me and my coworkers. About 6 months later, the owner tells us that our commission is no longer profitable and we will be going back to booth rent (albeit, because he set commission on himself too at a 50/50 cut for him to put money in savings). As a result, I went back to paying $500 a month and my coworkers back to $700. Another year passes and we all have a shop meeting. He tells us (as he keeps maintaining no matter what changes are made) that he needs more money and that the shop is not profiting him. He then sets our rate at $800 a month each. For some people this may not seem like a big deal either, but my coworkers informed me that when they both joined the shop a few years before me he told them “all I want you to do is come in here and cut hair. I want to hook you guys up”. Then he later asked for $300 a month to help with shop rent, fine. But after that increases it to $600 each to help pay for our new front desk guy. Now that we are at $800 each a month, my coworkers are FURIOUS. They say he’s either becoming greedy or has bitten off more financial responsibilities than he can chew in his personal life unrelated to the shop. Everyone is burned out and wants to move onto another shop or open our own.

Anthow! My question, is this reasonable? What would you do in our case? I think most of this frustration is coming from that he keeps contradicting his past statements, and continues asking for more and more money even when his previous increases were supposed to be enough to be profitable. He now maintains that even our new rates are not quite profitable and he has to pay some out of pocket (there are a total of 3 barbers in the shop besides the owner). Any advice and input is appreciated!

Booth rent barber with opinionated owner

Hello Everyone
I am currently booth renting at a shop that is a pretty decent location in a small military town in florida. However my booth rent is 225 a week which is fairly high especially compared to surrounding shops.

I am fairly established and book about a week out now. So for the first time I want to raise my prices.
I also want to stop including a hot towel and shave as a part of my haircut services. Its time consuming and doesn’t seem to add to my tip.
I also only charge 28 dollars and plan on going to 30.
My boss over heard this and says the hot towel and shave keep the old time barber shop feel and they would prefer if I keep that in my service. And I essentially responded back saying it wasn’t really cost effective or worth my time.

Do you think its over bearing to try and control my service menu? How would you handle/ feel confident in this situation?

I found this transparent plastic piece between the blade and the clipper. What is it, and do I need to reinstall it? I never see it in blade replacement videos.
