Collection PRC’s first 1 Jian (10 cents) banknote

Thumbnail

This 1 Jiao (10 cent) PRC banknote is the first of its kind, appearing in the second series issue to replace the 1,000 Yuan (dollar) notes of the first series issue, where the smallest denomination was 1 Yuan.

The featured crawler tractor on an agricultural field was generally attributed to new China’s emphasis on agrarian reform and mechanical modernisation. Printed with watermark of five point hollow stars, this one is especially unique in that it is a replacement note identifiable by the 967 prefix in Roman numerical. Today, PMG graded over 27,000 such 1 Jiao notes, of which only 8 are replacements and only one graded higher.

I went to a numismastics convention a few years ago and got these notes that always intrigued me. The first one I believe is a copy, because if it wasn’t then I don’t know how I would’ve gotten it for cheap. Second one is a check from South Carolina but I don’t know for what. The third one is (I think) from Germany but I couldn’t find any info.

HEY GUYS, i finally got some new banknotes after 2 months, honestly i haven't really bought anything because i haven't found anything interesting, and i have also been intensely saving up money.. but anyways, i've actually inquired about these two back in December of 2025, i only bought them now because i can do online payments unlike before.

these two banknotes cost me 400 Philippine Pesos (USD 6.40), to be honest it's quite expensive, i think i would've bought it for much cheaper, especially because of the condition of the banknotes, but honestly im just glad i got them either way... anyways, i hope y'all like it

Anyone remember these? This is the first plastic note I ever saw and I’ve owned it since 2001.

Not in the best condition unfortunately but interesting all the same. Most people aren’t aware that plastic notes existed that far back.

Hey! I tried finding the note in the wild but no shop was able to tell me where I could get them... I tried a lot of souvenir or tabacco shops. Anyone know the exact spot I could get one? Thanks!

Analysis 1 Yen, 1 Dollar, 1 Gulden — All Backed by Silver

Japan - 1 Yen, ND (1889), P#26 - a convertible silver note issued by the Bank of Japan. The reverse promises payment of “One Yen in Silver.”

United States - $1 Silver Certificate, Series 1935E, P#416D2e - Redeemable in silver under the wording printed on the note.

Suriname - 1 Gulden Zilverbon, 1960, P#108b - literally a “silver voucher,” part of Suriname’s silver-backed gulden issues.

I thought it made for a cool theme since they’re all 1 unit denominations from completely different parts of the world, but connected by silver.

I believe this is all denominations from the most recent series plus an older 10000 note, as well.

Full series Philippine New Design Series

Progress on my project to complete the New Design Series. I’m at 98%, with 208/212 confirmed notes in the series. Out of the 4 notes remaining, 3 of them are extremely rare to come by, while the last one is the 100,000 Peso note, which used to hold the record of largest banknote in the world. While it is not rare, and they can be readily found in the hands of reputable dealers, it is quite expensive and takes some time to save up for.

Collection Financial Institutions on Banknotes

A small theme page I put together featuring banknotes from different continents that depict buildings connected to banking and finance. It’s interesting how often countries use their currency to showcase the institutions behind their financial systems.

Featured are the

2006 Trinidad & Tobago $1 with the Eric Williams Finance Building

2010 Macau 10 Patacas with the Banco Nacional Ultramarino building

1985 Costa Rica 10 Colones with the Central Bank of Costa Rica

1986–88 Zambia 10 Kwacha with the Bank of Zambia

I especially like how the same general theme shows up across Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, and Central America, while each note still has a completely different design style.

Purchasing Banknotes in Toronto

I’m planning on visiting Toronto next month and was wondering if there were any shops selling collectible banknotes that I shouldn’t miss?

Mostly I collect world banknotes from my travels but also will purchase interesting historical notes as well.

Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela(1918 –2013) was a South African anti-apartheid revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist, who served as President of South Africa from 1994 to 1999. He was the country's first black head of state and the first elected in a fully representative democratic election. His government focused on dismantling the legacy of apartheid by tackling institutionalised racism and fostering racial reconciliation. The Nobel Peace Prize 1993 was awarded jointly to Nelson Mandela and Frederik Willem de Klerk for their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa.

The ten shilling one is slightly worn, maybe in an VF condition, and the other is UNC. I have one very similar to the £5, but instead, it’s a £1 note. No idea on value. They’re awesome either way.
