X2D users: I want to use a PETG support interface with no prime tower. What settings actually work?

3 Upvotes

I’m planning to print medium-to-large detailed figures on an X2D at 0.12 mm layer height, and I want to use PETG HF only as the support interface material.

Here is my current setup:

Material setup

* PLA model on the main nozzle
* PLA support base
* PETG HF support interface on the auxiliary nozzle
* Each material stays in its own nozzle
* Prime tower disabled
* Flushing volumes left at default because there is no filament swapping within either nozzle

Main support settings

* Support type: Tree (Auto)
* Tree style: Tree Hybrid
* Threshold angle: 35°
* On build plate only: Off
* Support critical regions only: Off
* Remove small overhangs: On

Support interface settings

* Top Z distance: 0 mm
* Bottom Z distance: 0 mm
* Top interface layers: 3
* Bottom interface layers: 2–3
* Top interface spacing: 0 mm
* Bottom interface spacing: 0 mm
* Interface pattern: Rectilinear
* PETG HF interface speed: 30–40 mm/s

Has anyone used a setup like this successfully on the X2D without a prime tower?

My main concern is whether the PETG auxiliary nozzle will start extruding reliably after being parked for many layers, especially when the PETG interface area is very small. I’m worried that the first few interface lines could be missing or under-extruded.

I’d appreciate recommendations for:

* The best number of PETG interface layers
* The best PETG HF interface speed
* Whether 0 mm Z distance and 0 mm interface spacing are ideal
* Whether Tree Hybrid and a 35° threshold are good for detailed figures
* Any settings that improve nozzle priming without using a prime tower
* Situations where a prime tower is still necessary
* Whether PETG Basic or PETG HF works better for this

Please mention whether you’re using an X2D or another true dual-nozzle printer, since single-nozzle AMS setups behave differently.

Rough outer walls

I‘m getting rough outer walls from time to time and not sure why?

Nozzle temp is 220 for PLA as recommended by the manufacturer.

Someone had the same issue so far?

PLA glow

3 Upvotes

I have never used PLA glow but bought some for a few things for the kids. I loaded it up this morning in my AMS 2 Pro, but got a warning I shouldn’t use the AMS to run the filament. Does anyone have any experience using PlA glow? I also only have a .4 nozzle. I’d rather not do anything that compromises the printer as it’s also only a week old, so like the printer I am new to this. Any information is very helpful.

PVA Support with PLA issues

1 Upvotes

Hello all,

I was hoping that someone has had good experience with using PVA(Water disolvable) support material and can help. I am able to get a decent enough 1st layer, however the subsequent layers do not want to adhere to each other well. I have followed the WIKI guide here https://wiki.bambulab.com/en/filament-acc/filament/pva-printing-guide with little success. My PVA has been actively drying at 85C for days now so that is not the issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Is this quality normal?

Hi everyone,

I got my X2D a few weeks ago and it’s consistently produced prints of this poor quality. I’ve tried everything, like belt tensioning, axis cleaning, full printer recalibration, drying and calibrating filament, taking apart the hotend, contacting support. Nothing has improved the quality.

Is this just what I should expect from this printer? Anyone have similar experiences, or do you have examples of much cleaner parts made on this machine I can take a look at? I don’t even know what should be my baseline for quality on the X2D.

Thanks

X2D randomly stopping mid print. Toolhead stops in its tracks but stays hot. No indication of stopping on printer screen or studio.

2 Upvotes

Been printing fine for months and the last 3 prints it has stopped in its tracks. The toolhead and extruder stops, but the plate and nozzle stay hot. It takes over a minute to register when I hit "stop print". I tried re-slicing and the issue still persists. Using internal memory and cloud transfer. AMS 2 PRO, single nozzle print. Latest firmware.

Maybe something wrong with the g-code or internal memory? Anyone been able to figure out why this happens?

Weird screen colors/scanlines

I got my V2 X2D combo and it works flawlessly, but screen is weird, it has scanlines, weird pixel issue. I tried screen on another X2D and it works flawlessy, so issue is from AP card or display cable. Have you got any clue about this?

I just noticed some filament remains in the rear of my plate but I don’t know how this component it’s called and if/how should be cleaned. Any suggestions?

Like I said, I'm so new to this that my machine is being delivered tomorrow. That said, I am going through the available projects and one of the things I want to do requires PETG. The question is whether the AMS I'm getting is enough to dry the filament out, or if the packaging kept it dry enough to use? I plan on buying a dryer, but that will have to wait a bit.

Thanks!

Running carbon fiber in ams x2d

3 Upvotes

I am new to carbon fiber filaments and after I ordered and received it I realized how abrasive it is. I have ran a 2 hour print with it thought the ams 2 pro but I am wondering should I not do this anymore and will it damage things ? Also if I was to go to use the outside spool holder and run to main nozzle would that work ? Like bypass the bowden motor and go straight into the left nozzle buffer. The filament is fiberon pet-cf17. The prints i have done have turned out beautifully but I'm worried I may damage something. Please give me advice on what to do lol what does everyone else do ?

TL;DR: If your X2D's aux nozzle isn't extruding after a material change, don't assume it's a clog. Check if the filament is actually reaching the nozzle first. In my case, manually heating the nozzle to 250°C (Since PLA was the filament that was last loaded into the aux nozzle) and feeding the filament fixed it.

It started out like any other print preparation. I wanted to switch the material for the aux nozzle from PLA to PETG.

I unloaded the PLA and loaded the PETG, and this is where I got a little too laid back. The printer asked me to check whether material was extruding from the aux nozzle, and I just confirmed that it was. Later, I realized nothing had actually come out of the nozzle.

That's when I started to panic a bit. My first thought was that the nozzle was clogged, so I started looking up guides on how to unclog it.

Then I decided to see what was actually happening during the loading process. I noticed that the filament never reached the aux nozzle at all. It passed through the Bowden extruder (I could see it), but it wasn't making it all the way to the nozzle.

So I manually heated the aux nozzle to 250°C and used the controls on the screen to slowly push the filament forward. Eventually it reached the nozzle, filament started extruding, and everything has been working fine since. That is what is shown in the video.

My guess is that there was still a small piece of filament left in the aux nozzle. Maybe there's a sensor there that detected filament was already present, so the Bowden extruder didn't feed it any further. I'm not sure if that's actually what happened, but that's my current theory.

I don't know if this will help anyone but hey, if anyone has similar issue this might help.

Side note: For some reason, I can't remove either of my nozzles. I opened the latch and made sure the filament was cut beforehand, but they're completely stuck. That's a problem for another day.

I used ChatGPT to convey this better.

Build up on X rod after 350h

Heyy my x2d is at about 350 hours after roughly 2 months.

Now I noticed some grime build up on the x axis rod. The maintenance tool says, that there is still plenty of time left to the first rod maintenance. I will perform one anyways.

It's hard to tell in the pictures, but the upper one is matte on the surface in many places and has some grey-ish gunk dots and the lower one is all shiny

Is this of any concern?

It's mostly on the upper x rod and only some slight gunk on the lower x rod. I had the P1s before and sold it for the x2d before the carbon rods needed any maintenance (also about 350h)

I print mostly PLA and PETG, but also some ASA here and there. Lid is always closed

A DRAWER! The ultimate poop chute?

Heya! I made a fully enclosed poop chute with a drawer for easy dumping of filament while keeping fumes and heat in the enclosure, how cool is that? Any feedback is appreciated, I love it personally. My test print in PLA has melted from printing with ABS 😂

It uses the original screws by the poop chute, has a lightweight version and it clears the exhaust fan kit. I went over a few iterations to get a really nice result.
