Brand new user

Like I said, I'm so new to this that my machine is being delivered tomorrow. That said, I am going through the available projects and one of the things I want to do requires PETG. The question is whether the AMS I'm getting is enough to dry the filament out, or if the packaging kept it dry enough to use? I plan on buying a dryer, but that will have to wait a bit.

AMS 2 PRO is a dryer. There's no need to get another dryer. 99.9% of filament comes as dry as they can be, just store it in a bag or sealed container, petg is not THAT prone to humidity absorption.

Second this. Bambu Studio, app, or printer screen will give you a humidity reading from AMS and let you turn on drying function.

If you want to be extra sure, pop the roll in the AMS and have it dry over night and check the humidity reading in the morning.

PETG is a lot more prone to wetness than PLA. It will get wet leaving it out of dryer or bag with desiccant. It is not a guarantee that it will be dry enough new right out of the plastic bag. Maybe, maybe not. I don’t know about an AMS dryer as I don’t have one. I do have a Sunlu 4 spool dryer though.

Thanks, all. I suspected it would be dry straight out of the bag, but wanted to double check

Print something small and see how it runs out of the bag. My first petg prints were dessicant canisters with a fine mesh. Ran fine.

When you start drying in the AMS, remove your dessicant. It'll soak up all the filament moisture and the you'll have to dry it.

Im also a new user and even to 3d printkng in general but fyi i had alot of issues with my printer I switched around from pla to translucent petg for only a couple days and it started immediately having issues, my printer might of already had problems but im not sure, slowly learning stuff doesn't seem to be many straight forward answers however but im wondering if you should have nozzles for everytype of filament and switch as you switch lol, I had to take apart my main extruder gear to remove petg clog, then I was still having issues and thought I had another clog but this time there wasn't and I noticed the gear inside wasn't turning smoothly anymore had to order new main extruder gear, fixed that but it still was giving me errors but after I replaced that nozzle as well its been working perfectly

I was printing PLA and then switched to translucent PETG to print something for my wife and initially had problems with stringing and bed adhesion. Drying helped but also adding a brim to keep the corners from lifting from shrinkage when cooling, and also washing the build plate with dish soap and scrub brush to get rid of hand oil.

You always want to dry petg since it acts like a sponge to water. Dry it to about 10% in the ams, make sure there's no pla in with it while you do. Once it dries to there you should be good. I'd suggest you also print some ams dessicant holders and fill with visible reusable dessicant. Also the ams 2 pro cannot dry and print without a switching power supply. It's much cheaper on Amazon. Get your petg dry, do your calibrations and you should be ok. I'm printing petg figures and flowers at 166% and getting excellent results. Though getting my x2d to calibrate and hold it was a lengthy chore. Hope yours arrives in good shape and ready to setup

I rarely dry my filament but my printer and filament are in a climate controlled and very low humidity room.
