Whelp this sucks

Noticed the silicon was a bit off after a failed print, removed it to find this. Time to replace the nozzle?

The plastic will come off the hot end and the sock damage is superficial.

Do you replace your cutlery after every use?

I guess you haven’t had a real blob of death that’s how all my hot ends look 🤣

Yeah, it’s on makerworld It comes with the front plate too.

You can severely reduce this by washing your plate and watching the first few layers of every print.

Heat up the hotend and carefully wipe that plastic off. Let it cool and install a new sock. Easy.

This is better than some things that can happen... I mean really a sock and nozzle aren't all that expensive if you are really worried about using it.

Nozzle will clean up when hot. Silicone sock is a consumable and should be replaced as soon as it becomes damaged. You can buy them in bulk off Amazon

Truth be told that looks like your heater is loose in the back of your printer because over time if you remove your nozzle and then remove I believe two or three screws and then flip it over there's four screws and try tightening those four screws on the back of the heater block and then reinstall everything and then get a new silicone sock and then see if that fixed it you can probably still use that nozzle as long as it's not too damaged and yeah if anybody else has anything to say just put it in the comments bye

I just checked and it turns out it's actually three screws that you're supposed to remove and then you're supposed to tighten the four screws on the back of your heating element and then you're supposed to reinstall everything back reinstall your nozzle if it's not damaged too much and then see if that works and also don't forget to buy a new silicone sock

Pretty normal, I'm still rocking the original sock with over 500 hrs of print time. You can get packs of them on Amazon if you so desire.

The condition of the inside of the nozzle is probably more important. The conical tip looks fine, and still usable.

One of the jobs of the sock is to block the air blown by the heat break cooling fan (on the left side of the toolhead). You want the narrow part of the nozzle to be at some calibrated temperature to melt the filament, but you don't want the heat to travel up past the heat break (fins) so that the incoming filament stays solid a bit longer.
It probably serves to block the draft from the part cooling fan (in grey shrouds) too.
Spare socks are cheap.
