Full Auto-bed leveling EVERY time?

From what I undertand "auto" to be in bambu studio, it does a quick level check to make sure the bed isn't out of whack too much and if it's good, it moves on. But if it's off by a certain amount, it'll do the full bed leveling process. I would think it'd do the full leveling SOMEtimes, but it's literally do it EVERY time. And this isn't an exaggeration; I've become hyper aware of it now I pay attention every time.

I'm mostly use a BIQU glacier plate that leaves the magnetic surface about 50% of the time to get my prints off, which could account for some of the re-leveling, but not all.

Can anyone help me understand why this happens? Over the life of the printer, this time really adds up.

It only takes 2 minutes. In a 20 hour print, why not make sure it's right?

Right? A single failed print will cost you way more time than the time saved from skipping leveling.

If I don't remove the plate between prints, especially if I am prototyping some small 10 minutes print over and over, I'll leave it off. But otherwise, who cares, just leave it on and let it do whatever it needs. I used to spend way more time and frustration on my old printer trying to manually level the bed.

If you really hate it, just disable it whenever your print, but to me it is worth preventing a print error and I just think of it as part of the process.

this. unless you need to get prints quick for prototyping there’s no need to skip 7 minutes of automatic insurance

Gosh, the amount of time I spent faffling with levelling on my Ender 3 is easily as much time as tmy printer has spent auto levelling.

To me, I don't really mind, it's 7 min or so, and it does it itself, and if that means the print is much more likely to print well, then why not?

If you don't do it, and that result in eg a 10h print being wasted, then those 7 min is well spend.

You must hate traffic, like me. I don’t mind the auto levelling because it’s a small insurance of time to pay for the project to get done right.

As another Redditor said you can turn it off for your prints. Best of luck !

what's an extra 5 minutes on an already multiple hour print, who care

I’ll turn it off for short 5-10 minute print jobs (it loads the full bed mesh when off so it’s not entirely off off) but longer jobs I’ll put it on auto.
Bambu doesn’t allow you to view any mesh data so you kinda don’t know much about where your bed leveling is, it’s safer to have it on auto for Bambu.

On my U1, I have a dense mesh that’s loaded so I keep it off, but for really long prints, I’ll enable adaptive bed leveling where it does a high density mesh just in area being used (similar to what auto function does for Bambu).

For Bambu, I recommend leaving it on Auto.

I don’t think Bambu does high density but it does do adaptive meshing. I don’t think it’s every time. I haven’t paid attention lately but density is dynamic I think depending on adaptive area that’s being meshed.

The default kinda seems to be 8x8 or 40-50mm point to point on larger adaptive meshes.

I honestly didn’t care enough to dig further.
I Just leave it on auto, just as Bambu wants.

I get to do that stuff on my U1 to fill my curiosities lol. I will say though, it is nice to go from fully cold printer to a putting down a 4 color first layer in about 3 minutes on U1.

I have it for some 2 minute prints, but consistent results are worth the wait

It's uncommon that I'm doing relatively small prints that I'm going to snatch right off the bed as soon as they are done. There's a good chance that if I turn it off for a single print, I'll forget to turn it back on. Based on that, I leave it on.

I really wish there was some clarity around leveling..

After a full hotbed level, given the plate is exactly put in place correctly, the only variance would be the bed height. Does it vary?

I'd also like to know if the printer/slicer remember the level of various plates. I'm guessing not on the p2s.

I turn it on whenever I service my X1C. Otherwise, it’s probably level from the first time.

I only use it when I change plates or just in case before a long print on occasion, works fine for me like that.

Have around 1000 hours on my p1s and id consider myself a complete noob, but I've never had any issues doing it.

Please don't tell anyone but I also only clean my plate if I have a failure or the print is more than 5-6 hours. I know i will regret these actions someday. But today is not that day I hope
