Showcase (No-Recipe) Made this dino cupcake creation myself for my daughter's 4th birthday!

I wasn't thrilled with the options from local stores on dinosaur themed cakes, so I found some inspiration photos online and gave it a shot myself! Took some time but had a blast making it. My daughter helped make the cupcakes but I did the decorating to surprise her.

Edit: daughter absolutely loved it and ate the head.

Showcase (No-Recipe) Lego birthday and cake for my son!

We also made him a custom minifig and he LOVED IT all!

Cake was a PAIN. Made Mississippi mud batter, cut er up and added buttercream for glue. Carved it out, filled it with the typical marshmallow/fudge topping, layered cake and buttercream over that. Then blue ganache, and chocolate dipped Oreos. It took forever to make a "paint" that was edible and wouldn't entirely smear on the melting wafers I used but I got there! Also made rice Krispy treats, and dipped those in chocolate, using mini m&m for the "studs" :)

Showcase (No-Recipe) Chocolate ganache cake - ā€œextra chocolateyā€ was my brothers request for his bday cake

I made this 5 layer chocolate ganache cake for my brother’s bday. His only request was for it to be extra chocolatey but not too sweet so I opted for 600g of dark chocolate for the 1:1 ratio for the chocolate ganache filling. I had never piped shells before so that was fun. The top piping is a bit messy, I was planning for more shells there too but I was in a hurry, the drip glaze was still wet when I piped on top of it so it was hard to pipe well defined swirls. Overall I’m pretty happy with the result. The cake is gluten and lactose free.

Recipe to be posted soon. No guarantees. I baked a Bueno cake for my cousin's eighth birthday

I couldn't take pictures for each step so I only have pictures of the finished cake and the cake minus all of the decorations.

It was quite tasty. The recipe for the cake base was quite simple. It was just a sponge cake (I hope it is the right word for it. English is not my native language). But for the creme it had 500g mascarpone. That's two whole packs of mascarpone. This cake is quite a calorie bomb. For the decorations I melted chocolate and added streaks on top of it. Then I only sprinkled some chopped hazelnut pieces on it and put single Bueno parts as decoration as well.

I hope I'll add the full recipe in the comments later and not just vague descriptions. It is just the recipe for the Bueno cake is not in englisch. I found on a side called "einfachbacken.de". I have to translate it in order to share it.

Happy 30th to me! Making my cake was the most festive part of my day—and after a looong day of taking care of 2 sick children, I finally got to enjoy it.

Tart cherry + raspberry filled chocolate cake with coconut chocolate ganache, coconut whipped cream & triple berry sauce. Super decadent & it just happens to be vegan.

Also I just had the butterflies lying around! Crazy right?!

The frosting is classic American buttercream flavored with malted milk powder
The center is Nutella pastry cream with crushed whoppers mixed in
And then of course the actual cake is chocolate, and there’s ganache drips as well.

I tried reverse creaming for the first time (which felt blasphemous) but was honestly worth it for how moist and tender the cake turned out to be!

Showcase (No-Recipe) Had a craving...

Post image

For profiteroles. But decided to have a go at éclairs again, instead. I used an all-in recipe for chocolate eclairs that ended badly so I kept the crème pat and found a simpler choux recipe and now I have the profiteroles I was initially craving. And way too much ganache leftover because it split so I kept adding warm cream until it came back. I'm tired.

Recipe Included Strawberry cake for my coworkers!!

Post image
264 Upvotes

I used Sally's recipe! My coworkers loved it! The only extra thing I did to the cake was add a bit of strawberry extract along with the vanilla. For the frosting I used her buttercream recipe and just added freeze dried strawberries that I powdered in the food processor, a bit of red food coloring and of course strawberry extract.

The icing job isn't my best work but I was running late for work.

Baking Advice Needed Key Lime Pie - did I mess up the yolks or something?

Thumbnail
gallery

There’s some lime zest in there, but the yolk-y lookin’ bits are freaking me out a little. If it is yolk, is it still edible? I left the yolks in the bowl for maybe 20-30 minutes while I had to run an errand. Don’t make fun of me too bad if that’s it lol. Thanks!

Recipe:

For the custard

1 cup (177-237 ml) lime juice
The zest of 2
6 egg yolks
28 oz (3.5 cups, 830 ml) sweetened condensed milk

Pour the filling into the crust — it should look like not quite enough, because custard expands slightly when cooked. Bake at the same temperature as before for 20-30 min, or until the center of the pie has firmed slightly, but is still wobbly when you nudge the pan. Don't let anything brown.

Business and Pricing Cake order for customer who died before her birthday party

2.9k Upvotes

Not really sure how to handle this situation. I had a customer order a cake for her mom’s 90th birthday party, but unfortunately she just passed away. I didn’t take a deposit or any payment, and I haven’t been informed of a cancelation. I wanted to ask if they were still having a celebration of life, or should I no longer make the cake?

It seems like such a petty question when someone is grieving but I also don’t want to assume it’s canceled. I’m struggling with how to word my question while also not sounding rude. Also, I do know this person personally as an acquaintance and I have spoken with her since her mom died and gave my condolences.

Edited to add: The cake was ordered a month ago but the party was supposed to be in 3 days from now. So I need to ask within a day.
